The PowerVision PowerRay is an incredibly fun submersible that will enable you to explore any lake bay or ocean. In this clip I show the PowerRay in action, explain some of its features and provide a few tips and tricks for new submariners after having used it for the last few weeks. Stay tuned for more PowerRay clips very soon!

So glad to see this video come out. Been waiting on this one. Really wondering how it would do for invasive species studies in my neck of the woods. Also, did you test how to maneuver when the PowerRay gets entangled in debris? It seems a good bet that there will be situations where a pilot is exploring a murky area and gets caught up in a downed tree or entangled in weeds. Thanks for spending time with this machine b/c it has a bunch of interesting possible applications!

This has been one of our concerns..beware that requests for tech information from PowerVision get no answer. We are considering putting a co-axial kevlar tether along the comms cable (in no way would we call that a "tether"..plus a safety loop to protect what looks like a rather vulnerable connection to the vehicle chassis [think of the bending moment on that tall plastic connector in case of fouling)....as I said..there is neither support nor tech details from OceanVision, even on request, it seems like their marketeers have taken oven and want to sell to fishermen on ebay..yet there is possibly so much potential)! Emerging competitors now cite such features as kevlar supprts within the cable, but it seem PowerVision are stuck on flashy videos, but refuse to give any details :-( Attempts to contact have led to mutism to date :-( ..NFI :-(

That thing looks like a lot of fun. It can definitely be a great addition to anyone's filming arsenal; there are some bodies of with beautiful landscapes beneath that no one gets to see because...well...humans aren't very aquatic. Your first video was great, but showing it in action (dude, loved all the angles you filmed this thing from) as well as the footage from it has my interest piqued. Great video Rick!

Great video Rick, I’ve been waiting for this one since your unboxing. I’m wondering how much work is involved in cleaning it for storage? I would imagine, similar to my scuba gear, you aren’t simply wiping it off and storing it.

Great video rick as always. OK you’ll never believe this but I’m gonna say it anyways I actually bought this brand new sealed from factory the premium model with the sonar buoy and backpack for weight for it $580! And no I had no problems getting it it was delivered right away and it works perfectly. I found the thing incredibly fast and I thought the maneuvering was like a sports car underwater in my opinion will see how the video turned out I am in the process of downloading it right now. Thanks for your review it was because of your video I felt confident and spending the money to buy the drone. Thanks rick

Very nice video! Do you think it could navigate through lily pads? Not my typical choice of location, but need to find my fishing pole 😒. I only need to go straight in and will kayak to retrieve it since turning around would be impossible because of the cable. Thanks

That was very very cool. Imagine the footage from a clear Adirondack lake or from the ocean. The look of it reminds me of the craft from the movie “The Fantastic Voyage“ but with no Raquel Welch. Nice video… And by the way nice pool.

I thought the same thing when I first saw it and wish they made a larger version that I could climb into. Ever since I was a little kid I've always wanted to fly a helicopter and pilot a submarine and now I have both. Stay tuned and I'll be posting more clips of the PowerRay soon. Rick

Incredible! That's one great piece of equipment that has got to have countless uses even beyond a personal hobby. It's almost like you're in one of those deep sea research submersibles. I can't imagine how much engineering and design went into it with everything said and done I have to wonder if you could put that receiver on a nice stable buoy (and probably put it in some sort of water tight bag) and tie a long rope to the buoy to retrieve it if there's a problem as a way to really get a large range on that thing to go out to the middle of lakes the way you're using it from the shore. I'm sure the wireless signals can handle a few hundred feet with direct line of sight to the transmitter. . . question is if that's advisable

Great video, many thanks! Can you, please, clarify, whether this ROV is able to write GPS-position (coordinates) into EXIF-header of jpg/dng file, which it shoots? Or may be you can recommend some othe ROV model that can do this. I need this functionality in order to map bottom pollution and make web-GIS which shows garbage locations (georeferenced points) with repective photos shot by ROV. Just approximate position (RC/controller position) will do since I will be deployng ROV almost vertically from boat. Best regards!

Great video. Do know what the water clarity was in the lake? Do they have a Secchi Disk rating for the lake? The lake I fish is pretty murky, so I’m not sure how good a camera would be.

Nice overview, thanks for putting this together. Would be interested in any real-time stats that can be got from this unit: i.e depth, speed (does it register flow as in a river or stream?) Does it have automatic neutral buoyancy irrespective of depth?
@Dronevalley
@Dronevalley 6 лет назад
Thanks for the post but it doesn't collect any of those stats currently. There is a "depth hold" feature that works pretty well when swimming. Be sure and stop back as I'll be posting a ton more content this week. Rick

Rick that is a great tool for someone to use for finding things under water. Someone will use that to make some cash. Kind of a real expensive toy unless you live in a warmer climate and real water person or into salvage etc. I would buy it if the price came down abit but to expensive for me now. Great video as always
@Dronevalley
@Dronevalley 6 лет назад
Rich, thanks for the post and it does a pretty good job with the lakes around me. I will be taking it to the bay and the ocean next week to see how it does there. They actually make 3 different models and the simpler one is about the cost of a Phantom.

Rick-this looks like a blast and may be a toy for down the road but still playing with my Mavic Pro down in the moderate temperatures of Georgia. Could I ask if there is routine maintenance for the Mavic not just updates but physical maintenance. Have not owned mine long but do see wear on the propellers and wonder when these should be changed. My apologies if you have covered this in a video and if so just tell me which one. Have been trying to go back and look at the older videos but may have missed this. Enjoy your videos and the effort you put in them. Please keep up the good work.

Im thinking the end caps ought to be something we can 3D print easily ;-) BTW. make sure you select a color balance, toggle through for the best one for the environment and height you are "flying" in the water, and leave it there to avoid the AWB toggling for you when the quad pitch in flight.

When I saw the pond view, I couldn't help but think how cool would it be in crystal clear tropical waters. Then I wondered if the fish you were filming viewed you as a predator or not, followed immediately with, or do I now become prey to a larger predator ?

Rick, I have a concern about the tether line. It floats so on the water it will not likely tangle, but all that line on land...how do you keep it from tangling and unwinding smoothly when feeding it out? Is there a reel of some kind that would help control the feed? How much twisting can the cable tolerate? Or do both connectors 'swivel' freely to prevent twisting?
@Dronevalley
@Dronevalley 6 лет назад
I typically unreel most of the line and throw it in the lake to float as needed. As the submersible travels away from shore, the line plays out and follows the craft. I did design a specialized reel I use to collect and store the cable and will do a clip soon showing you how to build obe yourself for under $20. Stay tuned and thanks again for your support of the channel. Rick

Not sure that "460 lumens is more than enough"!!! :-) My camera's focus light is a little stronger..and the 8,000lm video light is only good for ~2ft maximum in reality in the marine environment :-) Still, potentially useful for biological surveyying...

Hello friend, my name is Fran and I live in Estepona, Málaga (Spain). Contact you to ask for help. I bought my son a Powerray Wizard but the company and its website are no longer working so the only way to be able to use my submarine is for someone who already has an account to share their username and login password to be able to open the application. and use my powerray wizard. I understand that you don't have to help us but you would do me a great favor. Thanks my friend. Greetings from the Costa del Sol. 0:09 目
