PP Treatment for Discus Fish || Gill Flukes Treatment || Potassium Permanganate Treatment

Potassium Permanganate is a very useful thing in the hobby. Especially if you are keeping Discus Fish. Its a very good is a very good disinfectant. Good to Treat Gill Flukes..
Do Not use HEATER... PLEASE BE CAREFUL
Take 2 grams of Potassium Permanganate and add to 1 liter of normal water and make a concentrate solution. After the PP is dissolved well ... Take 1 ml per 1 Liter of tank water volume... So if your tank is 100 litres you need to add 100 ml of Potassium Permanganate concentrate solution.
Please be very cautious while doing this treatment. Please do this when you are at home.

Rahul I disagree with such doses of pp treatment, if any one ( new hobbiest ) add more pp solution in tank then Discus gill will burn & they die immediately as you aware Better to advice one stoke solution 2 gram for 1 liers of water & make pp solution Whenever you want to treatment then take 1ml solution for 1 liters of water, if 100 liter tank then take 100 ml. 4 to 8 hours treatment is fine for them Also keep ready Hypo to neutralize the pp effect if you fine anything wrong in fishes behavior

Great video on PP. However you can leave the filter media in the tank (k1 and carbon needs to be removed). I do this treatment once every 6 months. Also API General Cure for parasites. I would highly recommend this if your discus is breathing heavy.

Hi Rahul I have recently started following you and like your videos. Keep up the good work. Your process and methods are more feasible for me because the resources you use are pretty easily available. I have a question regarding this video. You mentioned about cleaning all sponge filters and everything then drying under sun. What about the good bacteria’s. Under sun all the good bacteria’s won’t survive. How are you planning to manage that.

Hi.. Thanks a lot.. Yes everything will be gone... So we are starting off fresh.. You will need to use quick start or secheam stability to start the tank... Because if you put back the same thing.. Then all bad and good bacteria is coming back

@@avishekroy6060.. New fish without quarantine I will never recommend... But the whole idea is you do this so nothing from the old parasites are left over... See products like stability and quick start are meant for these... Completely new tank I would not recommend... See we are not completely emptying the tank.. And fishes are still there so the beneficial bacteria build up is faster.. Which is not the case with a completely new tank.. Hope I have answered your question 😊😊

You can do pp if you are facing any issues... After 4 hours you can change the water... Please see the video description for dosage details... Please observe them very closely when you add pp... If they are feeling uncomfortable please immediately change water

I have a problem with one of my turquoise discus seems like she gets dark when being around with the other discus I take her out and place her in a quarantine tank and she starts getting colors back after 15 days of water change I put her back with the others and gets dark levels on the tank are great I don’t know if it might be since I do have a pair in there that might be bulking her can u help

Hi... See sometime they change color either when they are in stress or when they are pairing up or during breeding.... Some fishes can have some infection it can be because of that too.. Or if the fish is weak the others are bulling her... So I need to see a video of the tank only then I can say anything

Yes you are killing everything and starting fresh.. Because all these parasites will be stuck on the filteration also.. So if you do it only for the fishes and put back the same filter everything is coming back into the tank

Discus which are about 1 inch plus you can do a very mild pp treatment.. Very mild... Betta I don't think can take pp. I am not sure... Please check

Hi rahul, I was thinking of moving an Angelfish which has grown big and not fit at it's recent tank to my 200 L discus community tank. The reason I'm growing these discus is to breed them. I would like to know if moving that angelfish with discus fishes would cause any problem to them? If it's ok to move the Angelfish, kindly inform me the quarantine process.

See quarantine may not be required as the angel fish was in your house only... But putting angels with Discus is not a good idea.. Big angels get very aggressive and which might scare your Discus.. So you will have to put them together and see..

I think my flowerhorn has flukes as i found him scratching his body and shaking his head most of the times. If i will use this PP treatment can i run the water to my canister filter as well? (removing all medias/foams) to make sure that it gets sanitized as well ? and how many grams do you suggest i can use for a 50 gallon tank. I really appreciate your answer thanks a lot

If your going to kill the beneficial bacteria by drying out your filter why not just just the filter during the pp treatment?

You can do that also.. No issues... But K1 and some varieties of sponge absorb pp.. And might change color

i removed my filter and treateda bare bottom tank with angelfish, but my permanganete turned brown in i guess less then 10 minutes, ... I wanted to do a 6 to 8 hours cure (2 mg/l which is a normal dosis), but the brown colour tells me the KMn04 was already worked out (in reaction with other organics ?) in about 10 minutes... I added more so it was a high concentration, but again KMn04 was turning brown after 15 minutes... I do not completely understand this, because it was a bare bottom tank with no organics in it.

PP is for external infection.. Not for internal.. For internal you need to do metronidazole treatment

My discus tank is heavily planted. Can I do pp in same tank or in another tank. If during pp the heater get turned off, than the temperature drops suddenly. Is it OK? In this case what is the minimum temperature. And if I want to do pp and deworming, then what schedule should I follow. Please guide me.

Pp in a Planted tank is not recommend.. Plants will get effected Heater has to be removed.. I have mentioned it th video also.. Because oxygen level drop with pp Between both the treatment give at least 1 week gap... Let them get some rest and recovery time

Hi Akshay... Firstly your Discus is having peppering.. That is the black spots.. That is mainly due to stress.. Also in few varieties of Discus its more.. Secondly Discus is a schooling fish you need to keep them in a group of at least 6 to 8 nos.... Thirdly Koi fish and Discus fish very bad combination.. Fourthly in a 1.5 feet tank you have put so many fishes. The tank is over stocked.. Mainly one of the reasons for your Discus to be in stress... Please do little bit of research before mixing different types of fishes.. Because if you don't you are putting there life in danger...

Hi bro... I would not recommend to do pp treatment in a Planted tank... Some plants might not survive.. And also the pp will stuck to the substrate.. And will cause lots of issues... You may have to separate them in a hospital tank and do...

For some reason, when I use PP treatment, it turns brown right away. I use seachem Safe on my water tank and we have chlorine and cholomine, how can I do a proper PP treatment since I can't use straight tap water with no chlorination? I've done it before and was able to keep it a light pink. Any suggestion?

Seachem safe or prime will reduce the effectiveness of pp.. So it becomes brown... You will need either ro water or uv purified water to do pp treatment

everytime i move my fish to main tank after treating it for hexamita it gets hexamita again because of what i want to remove all fish and kill all bacteria in tank with this pp i cant keep it for long time so what will be perfect dosage tank without fish?

@@FwrapperAqua what's the point of doing that...? you already have an established tank which helps down breaking the ammonia to nitrites then nitrates...if your going to dry out everything the ammonia build up when u start fresh will obviously be high since ur beneficial bacteria's dead which creates a risk for your fish.... so what i m basically sayin is the idea of drying out the filter isnt really a gud idea

Water change any day is the best... Because if you add little excess of hydrogen peroxide.. It can kill your fish instantly

Hi Rahul, My tank goes from pink to brown tan in just 30mins while doing PP for my FlowerHorn. Does it mean my PP solution is less concentrate? In this case can I add more PP solution when it turns brown until 4hrs is complete from the start?

I effect of the pp reduces when there is lots of things or substance are there in tank that we cannot see.. ... If you wipe out the glass and do a big water change and repeat pp after 3 to 4 days the pink will remain for longer...

Hi Rahul, I tried doing the PP after a big water change and this time the PP was active for longer time, But for some reason my FH (4 to 5 inch) was becoming little uncomfortable after one hour. It was shaking its head and trying rub its gills on the tank bottom moderately frequent. I was kind of scared seeing it and quickly ended the treatment. After that the fish was fine for all fine for 3 to 4 days and I was about to shift it to my display tank tomorrow. However suddenly the gill fluke is back on today again. One gill is shut and other one is opening wide. This time I used Paracidol medicine as I was not in a situation to give a PP treatment immediately. Actually wanted to understand what is the root case for this disease. Would it be my water source ? I was taking extra care for last two weeks by siphoning the bare bottom tank two times a day ever since the fish was put in the hospital tank. My water source is bore well with TDS 200ppm and PH 8.3. I age it for a week in a tub before use. Should I switch to a RO system? Could you please help me with your suggestion

@@niteshmore7736 I will not recommend buying a mixed batch in that size.. Because cross contamination is a big issue... And you might not get good results... Better buy 2 inch plus if you are starting about 6 to 10 nos same batch and grow them out... It will be better

Hi... Black spots is called Discus peppering. Very common in few varieties of Discus... It can be due to lots of reasons water condition, tank positioning, tank mates, tank background other dominant Discus or illness... Mainly this happens due to stress... Reason for stress can be all the above

Instead of using this, I suggest you use the deworming method use Paracure and Stress reducer which is not harmful to fish you can use it monthly once while changing the water 80% so you never need to do all this headache process.
