This video explains how PPL license the fitness business sector for the use of music in exercise classes and as background music in fitness centres. It also speaks to the industry about the motivational value of playing music by original artists.
Filmed at FitPro Live 2014, we hear members of the fitness industry including exercise instructors, fitness centre operators, gym goers and trade figureheads. Gym goer Julie Maxwell states that “Hearing what’s in the charts, what’s really current and what I can dance to, is really important.” while FitPro instructor, Joanne Whitfield adds “I’d personally prefer to use chart music [in my classes]. I know that the people in my class are enjoying the music I choose but it’s quite difficult to please everybody.”
PPL’s music licensing team (Public Performance Operations - PPO) and Greg Small, Head of Membership at the national quality regulator for the fitness sector, REPs, also discuss the importance of holding the proper 'Exercise to Music' licence for fitness professionals and fitness centre operators.
