Wes' styrene skills are crazy! The cracking is likely because the paint hadn't had enough time to cure, so it was still degassing. I do coats of paint a bit too long of flash times when trying to weather just hoping to get that effect. If I want a clean paint job and it's flashed more than 30-45 minutes, I let it sit for 24 hours before doing any more coats. USTE, it can't come soon enough!

Awesome! In my experience paint cracks when the top color dries faster then the color under it. It shrinks and opens up exposing the color under it. This happens more often when the solvents are stronger in the top layer. For example Krylon dries faster then rusto so put krylon on top and it will crack.

Cracking in the paint is often caused by contaminants on the surface that cause adhesion issues, or at least that is what I have found to be the case.

I would suggest that you get parts ready for each step so you're not having to wait for stuff to dry. Do a time test on what does have to dry a bit and maybe you apply it before you start the class ( or whatever is appropriate) so it's ready to be wiped or dabbed. Hopefully I will be there this year!
