Follow along with a typical day at practice with Connor Kitching (Olympic Hopeful). Connor walks you through a typical day at practice along with other interesting facts about the sport. We will all be cheering him on at nationals this year in Sarasota, FL as he looks to bring home another National Championship as well as qualify for Olympic Hopeful Regatta.
Want to paddle faster or more efficient? Watch this interview with Danielle to hear how she joined the team and how GHCKRT divides the paddlers by age and ability. Danielle has been on the team for 2 years and absolutely loves everything to do with paddling.
We are excited you are interested in joining the Gig Harbor Canoe & Kayak Racing Team!
There are many ways you can start or continue your paddling journey with us. Our youth program is divided into several teams to accommodate different ages and skill levels. Each team has its own practice schedule and coaching staff dedicated to instilling both great technique and great sportsmanship in all athletes. Love watching the kids, but want to get out on the water too? Our Masters program is a great way to learn how to, and become competitive in sprint canoe or kayak as an adult!

How often Do you need to correct direction with the steering pin when paddling fast? Or Do you paddle more straight with better technique anyways? I don't have a Real racing kayak but as soon as i paddle full speed (my full speed) keeping paddling straight becomes harder

In a sprint canoe, each stroke ends with small steering adjustments to go in a straight line. In a kayak our rudders take care of everything steering wise no matter technique. Overall, good technique always helps keep the boat moving efficiently forward.
