First of all... Anthony has passed his CFI checkride! Congratulations to him! He got it finished before I could get this video edited.

It's rare seeing CFI-training uploads. Great productions are practically non-existent. This is a perfect example of competent scenario-based CFI training captured in a fun and to-the-point video format. Nice!

I like leaving flaps out until you need them to in a Cessna 172. In a Piper Arrow I prefer the 10 degrees as soon as you pull the power to idle. Glad other people do this too!

Not all Cessnas float, though the trainers do. Try a power off 180 in a 206. It will make an Arrow look like a sailplane. It's especially fun with full flaps, as the deck angle is stunning.

Couldn’t help but chuckle at the 10 notches of flaps reference. Just picture that one on final: “Drop the barn doors! We’re comin’ in Harrier style! Gonna play some music on those piano keys!” Congrats on passing your checkride! Now you get to find out what us student pilots can REALLY put you through. Like they say, fool-proof just means you haven’t handed it to the right fool yet. 🤪

You cannot carry extra speed into ground effect or you will float for days due to the reduced drag. Unless you are coming in short, that might be effective to increase that float. Bleed off the airspeed before you get into ground effect.

Best glide, make sure you have the runway, may not have a square turn, then flaps.

Take it or leave it babyface, but i like doing the power off 180 with only 20 flaps, aiming short of your point, and if you see youre going to land short, dump the last notch, it'll balloon you up just enough to hit your spot perfect.

@Boudicca-the-musical
@Boudicca-the-musical 3 года назад
If flying students are trained by CFIs, are the CFIs trained by Certified Flight Instructor Instructors? Or can any CFI train pilots (with sufficient hours) to become CFIs? Or does the CFI have to have enough hours as a CFI to become a CFI for trainee CFIs?

I'm confused about the flaps. Put them to 10-degrees just as you are about to touchdown?
@LewDixAviation
@LewDixAviation 5 лет назад
Flaps are used to steepen your descent angle without increasing speed.. You can land with whatever increment you like but remember that the less flaps you have in, the higher your approach speed will be. The higher the approach speed the longer the landing distance or landing roll

@@LewDixAviation Very true. My instructor demostrated this back when I was working on my commercial. I flew the Cessna 172N and did a PO-180°. We almost did the normal 45° turn base then to final. It didn't want to drop like a rock. However, the same day and same wind conditions we flew the PA-28RT-201 (Retractable Gear and T-Tail). We flew the same way as we did the C172N as we did about an hour earlier and we did the PO-180°, the ground was approaching very fast. I had to add power and finish the pattern regularly. This caught my attention really quick in the Arrow.

Interesting video this... Perhaps your student is hyp'd, but he talks w a y too much and in machine gun mode (and often inaccurately) even though he passed his check ride. Congratulations nonetheless. But needs to stop chewing the gum and go through his principal points a little more thoughtfully. Sounds like he needs to back track the caffeine. I found this took me back to my own tuition when my FI would talk very little - a big contrast. Accepted, during the CFI tuition an instructor needs to verbalise his thinking... Sorry, too much energy, not sufficient chill... Other thing I had a big issue with is focus on air speed, rather than positive rate on the VSI for the go-around prior to flaps up. Ground effect on take off? He's flying the high wing like a low wing.
@bradleyensminger4640
@bradleyensminger4640 5 лет назад
Anthony Scott - right, because passing a checkride means you’re a good instructor... You have the attitude that students hate in an instructor. I hope you’re just going to instruct until you get into the airlines, or please grow up and learn some real teaching skills

Too much hostility from everyone boys, the kid is hyped up before his ride and is on camera, does talk a little fast but whatever, nobody is a "good CFI" with limited student experience. Congrats on the pass, my ride is coming in 2 weeks
@gregshiro1863

@@danharrodian Like everyone isn't hyped and nervous when they are in training. During the a CFI checkride you are supposed to continue to talk (teach) during your flight. Lighten up, please. Were you perfect on your training flights? NO!! If he is inaccurate during his training flight, he will learn from it and move on.
