Note: You do not need to practice this much!!! Most of my life I’ve only practiced for about an hour every day. Focused practicing is everything! Notice for most of the video I switch up the content about every 20 minutes to stay engaged. Stay focused for 1 hour and you will accomplish far more than 4 hours of aimless practicing. Today, try practicing 3 topics for 20 minutes each and see how it goes! Chad LB Text Lessons Studio open for the first time this year! @@saxchillz2328 One hour isnt a lot at all, but like he said-focused practicing. Practicing diligently for an hour a day for years will definitely yield results. I think he means just practicing, material for an hour but actually playing the instrument longer
Chad, you are a great inspiration! Song in the background I’ve heard chick record a version Of it, what’s the name of that version..? (BG music in the beginning) Thank you in advance… Or if anyone else my know… I’d appreciate it.
How dare you expose my poor sleeping habits in the beginning!? 😂 Man! This was such a great video. I watched every minute, and I ended up learning a ton. My favorite part was around hour 7 you couldn’t speak a normal sentence anymore. And the view in your practice space is incredible! Also I might need to cop that camera :0 Awesome video man this is my new most favorite of yours!
Ah thanks bro that means a lot!! Haha oh man I should have said in the video that my sleeping habits were totally on your level back in the day! When I first moved to NYC I was up until 5 or 6am every “night” and sleeping until 2pm every day haha totally relate!!
Love seeing fellow Sax RU-vidrs linking up and engaging in our favourite topic for our niche community. Fantastic video and Amazing effort! Learned some cool tips.
Such a neat garage, and a Tesla! Jazz musician with a Tesla, wow! But then I watched the whole video. Even at 2 hours short it was fantastic. Thanks Chad. I'd like more info on dinner. Such a kitchen, and dinner was........
I really like your playing. Remember at the conservatory in the Hague practicing most days 6-10 hours a day - no clue what to use of all the material. The point you are putting out there by focusing your study on what you need is great - thx 1mill
Yeah I always start with an hour long session of warm-ups/fundamentals, then build off of that with as many additional 30 minute sessions as I can fit in
LOL I was rly rly hoping you would respond to his challenge and you did! Man it's hard for me to even practice over 2 hours in a day. Can't imagine 12.
Is anyone else here who has done the challenge? I did it just today and i managed to get through it. It was actually quite fun and i have completed so much the stuff im working on. have i said, that im 15 years old? Anyway, i am curious how many of you also tried the challenge.
I watched Nathans video first and ended up watching yours. Honestly, I am wondering in all this challenge how your embouchure got through this marathon? I am a clarinet player, and I guess that for clarinet you need a bit more firmly embouchure, but still man, it is insane not to blast after 4 or 5 hours. I think my record was around 6 hours back in students days, but I also remember that tomorrow I was able to play much less. Congrats to both of you! :)
Great bro. It's a grt example you two artist interacting. I too practice for 4 hours a day... Wanna become like you. Your videos are inspirational. They boost me to practice for long hours. I'm from India
I guess it worked wonders for Charlie Parker back then doing over 10hrs daily for months, or a longer period of time. But I believe he was learning, and creating stuff during the process.
Charlie Parker was able to practice so long on end because he was also high half the time so I’m sure some of the time in the shed he was spacin out and then he would insane burst of practice. Underneath the demon, there was something genius. I don’t endorse drug use with professional life, but sometimes some grass and a nice long shed can do a lot of wonders for playing. Like being super stoned and just playing melodic cells everywhere and exploring is a lot of fun, it makes you feel like Bud or Monk lol. Long live Bird.
It's not about the hours you put in, it's how smart you practice. Doesn't mean anything practicing for 4 hours straight and playing the same stuff or playing what you already know. Break the topics you want to practice in intervals of 15 or 20 minutes and keep going, make it consistent. The other thing is that It's better to practice 15 minutes every day than 4 hours one day of the week. You won't progress as much without consistency.
Kenny G, as in Kenny Gorelick, practices a mere two hours, with consistency, and he IS the BEST instrumentalist EVER. Let's ask: Pat Matheny, Papa Lou Donaldson, Bebop master Charles McPherson, Mike Stern, and, yes, . Nathan Graybeal, among many other Organic Jazz wizards. They all do agree; or, do they? 👍 Clive Davis, a man with excellent promotional acumen, doesn't disagree 😂😢😮 Davis, of ARISTA RECORDS, is "the wind behind [Kenny G's] wings" of fame and financial success 🙌
Nah this is weak. I thought you were better than this Chad. Try practicing 26 hours in a day, then you can be as good as bird. JKJK. Amazing content! Keep up the great work!
I did this once a year growing up starting at about age 14. It was on electric bass, but I would practice from 7 pm to 7 am with the aid of only NoDoz pills. I would say overall it led me to some good stuff technique wise, and teaches you to develop a technique that makes you relaxed and energy efficient.
I used to practice 10-12 hours every day until I went to college, and there, since I had to practice it became an obligation and I completely lost the will to play the piano at all lol. But seeing inspired me to get back to practicing many hours again, now that I can practice what I want.
a band I'm in does a 24 hour fundraiser jam yearly, and at the end of it I'm completely chopped out on sax, and just playing fluff on keyboard instruments. Really challenging to come up with anything creative after the 3/4 mark.
You don't have to practice 12 hours a day. But the more you practice the better you get. Yeah sure one hour of focused practice is more beneficial than 4 hours of aimless practicing. But 12 hours of focused practicing is far better than 1 hour of focused practicing👍👍
You could stop practicing I think you are one of the tpp 10 Best saxophomists of rhe World Maybe Pottet Berg and Levano are also Good maybe you are already there....only youylurself where yipu Are...How are we avle to conpare...I the end only we can.compare ourselves with hours3lves....How did your gorlfriend could accept this???
