Books are off-piste for what I'm doing here, but I can tell you that I've been on an Andy Warhol-themed reading frenzy. I've loved his “Philosophy of Andy Warhol”, and am now soaking up “Holy Terror”, an intimate portrait by one of his close friends. Andy's favorite things were jewels and perfume. What are you reading?

Katie Puckrik Smells Stupendous, KP! Thank you. Quite by chance I'm also on a biographical binge these days. I usually read two or three books at a time. Right now I'm avariciously consuming The Secret Life Of Oscar Wilde. It is so sordid and salacious I have to bathe my eyes in Optrex after every reading session. However, the descriptions of his shopping habits and love of perfume are superb. The other one I'm reading is Theodora: Actress, Empress, Whore. How could you resist such a title. It's a stunning retelling of a Constantinople dancer and ho who rose to become empress of Rome and a Catholic saint. She was likewise enamoured of anointing herself with as much perfume as with scandal. I usually spray fragrance on books I'm reading to complement the character as I see it. For Wilde I've sprayed Penhaligon's Bluebell, and for Theodora I've spritzed Myrrhiad by Huitième Art. A bizarre habit I know, but it adds a certain smell-a-vision dimension to the experience of reading for me. I wonder what Warhol would've made of Bond No. 9's tribute fragrances.

I like the sound of your reading list! I'm a sucker for colorful biographies. I love your surround-smell idea to enhance the experience. Warhol would have absolutely loved the Bond No. 9 fragrances, as long as he was getting paid the licensing fee. (He called that kind of thing "my favorite kind of art: business art.") Which I'm sure the Warhol Estate is getting paid.

Tons of perfumes out there to review...but only one little me, and real life gets in the way of the fun stuff, unfortunately. I'm dancing as fast as I can! Thanks for watching, Nimuetootoo.

Benzoin is the resin from the Southeast Asian benzoin tree. It smells smoky and vanilla-y, and has traditionally been used in perfume and burned as incense.
