I've started implementing a low-volume workout plan this week (3 sets per muscle group/session, 6 sets per week) after 10+ years of lifting 15-20 sets/week, this has changed my life, or at least expanded my horizons immensely, I've been calling it the biggest breakthrough I've had in lifting and mentioning it to friends and family as if I gain a commission for every person that tries it, I feel amazing, the pumps are better, the workouts are shorter but so much more fulfilling, I feel like I actually need the rest days, I'm pushing myself more and by reducing the variables I can see a clearer easier way to implement progressive overload, Jeff you've genuinely impacted me more than you know, thank you!

I love this, thank you for sharing. It sounds like you’re getting a much needed break where fatigue has been toned down and now you’re able to express performance in the gym and more importantly out of the gym that much more. You are now mastering what I refer to as Supply/Demand 🔄. Again, love hearing about this and thanks for sharing.

@apeinto5637

Isnt it more of, you’re pushing yourself more more than the low volume? If you adapted your current mentality but increased the number of sets to 9-15 then you’re in your sweet spot?
@jeffalberts7968
@jeffalberts7968 5 месяцев назад
@@apeinto5637why would 9-15 be better and based off of what context? Not saying it’s not better, but there does need to be reason for an approach and individual trial and error.
@MuwuRS
@MuwuRS 5 месяцев назад
@@apeinto5637 It's not a pushing myself more thing, in the past when I was doing 15-20 sets for back day it was really common to have my forearms cramping the rest of the day due to how much I had pushed myself, I really did go all out, (I've always prioritized form/cadence > weight, still not light weights though). It made it really difficult to have any sort of progressive overload, low volume has allowed me to make sure that progressive overload is on the forefront of it all + it ensures I'm really honed in whenever I'm doing the few sets of the targetted muscle group, which is just really hard to maintain with quality on a higher number of sets workout. Also recovery has been awesome, and the pumps which I originally assumed wouldn't be that big since less sets, are actually massive, better and more intense, just 10/10 experience.

excited for this series - my personality is very simliar to yours, yet I train around a lot of powerlifters with more of a fast-paced, hustler mindset. I used to have that approach, until i got injured & burnt out. I've been sustainable with my now approach for the last six years and come back to your videos when my external environment gets loud and I need a gentle reminder that my approach is perfect, for me, to trust myself and that this process is leading me exactly where I need to be overtime. deeply grateful for your wisdom and insights 🙏🏼

Hi Jeff. I’m 60 and still training hard for the last 45 years. I might been training too frequently according to what you suggest in your videos. I still think that I can improve.I would like to know if you would suggest to train body parts once a week, 3 day split or something else. I’ve been following a 5 days/week training for the last 6 months. Training each muscle twice a week. Thanks.

Hello Mr. Jeff!! I'm currently a 3DMJ athlete (Berto) and I'm loving everything about it. I've been giving myself a 1-10 rating each training session and using that as a reference for performance. Do you do this? I'd be very curious to hear about how you adapt on the fly to each training session. Thanks!
@jeffalberts7968
@jeffalberts7968 5 месяцев назад
You’re in great hands as Berto has helped me immensely over the years. The rating system for each session is a nice tool for sure. Personally, I keep physical and mental notes as to how each exercise went in regards to load, reps and the overall quality. Those notes help guide myself session to session. I’m sure you’ll get more in my head in future episodes as I take a deeper dive.

Hey Jeff, I’m a new sub to your channel, love all your content on here. All you guys talk complete sense! I’ve only been lifting for X3 years , having a wife & two young kids things can get difficult to juggle for sure. For me at this point I try to do what makes sense to me & what I can cope with mentally and physically. I’ve been doing low volume HIT style training, may not be optimal but def fits into my life
@jeffalberts7968
@jeffalberts7968 5 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching and welcome to the series and the channel. I can relate man, I'm just like most people, a regular guy trying to lift and live life. Just keep in mind, optimal is never truly static and doing something particular rarely applies to all the masses. Optimal is what we can do in the moment at our best and that can look very different person to person.

I’m hoping to see you dig into the practical habits of reaching your nutritional goals when you’re busy and prioritizing family. Any details like how you get in enough calories during a bulk when busy (my biggest problem), what foods you rely on, how precise you are with planning out meals, calorie tracking if you aren’t the one cooking, etc. would be helpful to see.
@jeffalberts7968
@jeffalberts7968 5 месяцев назад
At some point I’ll be touching on my daily flow with nutrition. Unlike you, I don’t require a ton of calories (I gain really easily), so my issue is more restraint than eating more. As far as busy, most of us are just that as we all have lives to live and we have our constraints. With that said, protein shakes don’t take that long to get down to ensure you’re covered there, fruit juice can come in handy (if digestion allows) for quick carbs, and nuts (if you’re not allergic) are a healthy fat source that pack quite a punch calorie wise. Just a quick example how you can get in fairly quick and easy calories. Again, I’ll share my flow in a future video. Have a great weekend!

Respectfully, could you add muscle by changing the stimulus? I admire your discipline when performing your sets. It appears they are straight sets most of the time. J-Reps where you divide a R.O.M. into halves or thirds might be worth a try. The Johnston Rep Method.
@jeffalberts7968
@jeffalberts7968 5 месяцев назад
Thanks. It’s possible I’m sure as long as there is plenty of overload. Tbh, I see all training methods/styles as its own baseline and from there the goal is always to progress. Where many get stuck on is trying to debate which is best period and imho it’s more about which is best under the current circumstances. Yes, I do enjoy full ROM and do utilize lengthened partials on some movements at the end of some sets. J-Reps, another term/system for partials and I’m sure have utility dependent on the context.

a 2025 competition could be interesting, but I like the 2024 development news. Obviously looking better than everyone is the idea but I want to know what the milestones, goals, and checkpoints are. Will Jeff try something new, work more on this or that, prioritizing what, not making what mistake again, etc... What in July and October would make Jeff say "This is on track for 2025". Any setbacks or hurdles are bad news for Jeff but VERY interesting for the channel.

How to get yourself back with the mindset after a breakup?
@jeffalberts7968
@jeffalberts7968 5 месяцев назад
Sorry to hear about the breakup, not easy at all and I know those feels going through divorce back in '11. For me anyways, training was my outlet, something positive in my life that gave me purpose in a dark time, so I held on to that tightly. Didn't matter if I was progressing or not...just getting outside of the house and moving weight felt therapeutic. Keep lifting to keep yourself moving :)

Mr Jeff, is that chest supported row targets the mid back or is it for traps? I struggle to hit my mid and upper back, my traps always take over...😅 Have a great day!
@jeffalberts7968
@jeffalberts7968 5 месяцев назад
Yes, it’s going to hit more upper back (including the traps) along with the rear Delts as well. The lats to a lesser degree as they’re assisting in the movement. It’s a solid exercise where you can really eliminate momentum, leveraging and saving the lower back/legs for leg days 👍
