This is an original prayer to Macig Labdrön from the famous ritual of Chö, "Cutting Through." In this prayer, the practitioner asks to receive the blessings, empowerments and realizations directly from her. Macig lived in the 11th century in Tibet and is said to have realized full awakening during her lifetime and is since seen as a female Buddha. She was a yogini, which means that she was a lay practitioner (not a nun), who as married and had children while also following the dharma path.
The Chö ritual is based on the essential elements of love, compassion and the Prajnaparamita literature of the Buddha - which focusses on the empty nature of all phenomena (this means that phenomena appear but do not have an own inherent existence and hence are "empty of true existence.") This practice spread widely in Tibet, Nepal and India, until it reached the west in the last century. It is an extremely special practice because it focusses directly on cutting through the ego and settling in the vast, luminous, compassionate and empty nature of the mind. This practice uses shamanic kind of instruments called Damaru (drum), drilbu (bell) and a human bone trumpet. It is called གཅོད་ "Chö" in Tibetan which literally means "Cutting Through."
