ahh the good ol' days huh? I remember how big a deal it was to get a flip phone after having those big brick phones. My first three phones were HUGE Nokia Brick phones with extra chunky extended batteries, and I had each one for like 2 or 3 months, and then Id get a new one, because I was given my moms old phone, or my dads old phone, as their contract was running out, because they had switched carriers and got new ones. Lol, the times of cell phones where, just the fact that you HAD a phone, however huge it was, was cool.. When getting a different number every couple months wasn't a major hassle to deal with, and because of all the contract switching and getting new phones, it was still the times before EVERYONE had either Verizon or Nextel. Also still the times when, barely anyone texted, because each text cost like 25 cents, and only the crazy rich people had unlimited local minutes, and MAYBE 75 texts per month. I think my forth hand me down phone was finally a flip phone, and it wasn't until phone number 5, that I actually got to go to the verizon store and select MY phone. And this was all towards the end of high school. I believe I was 16 when I got my first cell phone. It was literally the size of half of a brick(they were called Nokia Bricks for a reason), it basically made phone calls and sent BASIC texts, and nothing else, the extra chunky extended battery still didnt even last the whole day so I had to turn it off unless it was in use, it didnt even fit in my pocket I had to carry it or put it in a backpack, my phone plan had NO text messaging, so each one was 10 cents IIRC, and had like 200 minutes, so basically, very quick calls to mom or dad to let them know where I was, nothing else. And I was PROUD AS FUCK to have a cell phone back then. 2004, 16 years old, finally old enough to get a phone. What we were stupid too realize, was that, even though we all wanted phones when we're around 16 17(ya know, phone and license), is we were giving up the freedom of not being on the grid. DO you remember how amazing it was to tell your parents you were going out with your friends, and once you left the house, thats it. Totally disconnected, its just you and your friends until you go back home. We didnt realize what we were giving up. Compare that too today, and little kids in kindegarten have got those kid phones, and by the time theyre in 2nd grade, they've got full blown smart phones. Fuckin' millenials man, no idea what the world was like only a few years prior to their arrival. Got the whole damn world just delivered on a silvler platter.

I'll never forget the first few times I got to use the internet. The only way being so was at an internet cafe and even then you would have to pay 10 bucks an hour to use their dial up connection. I'd make good use of that time though. Before then anything I wanted to know or learn about had to be done via magazine, book, or word of mouth. I'd look up cheat codes and way to beat video games then show up at school being the know at all. We didn't get our first computer in the household til I was 12-13 back in 1999. I felt spoiled having dial up internet at my fingertips. Although I couldn't just use it whenever I wanted. If someone was making or expecting a phone call I'd have to disconnect. It did have it's perks too though. If someone working in 1999 didn't want to get called in to work or answer the phone they could simply not answer it or connect to the internet. Now a days my boss can text me in and I can't use the excuse that I missed his calls/texts. You know the saying times back then were simpler? I don't think they really were simpler but they certainly were much different. They say now a days that kids are losing basic socialization skills because of technology. I wouldn't be surprised though. To say the least there's definitely a lack of privacy that was available back then.
