💕🕊️🌷🙏🏼Thank you very much Father Jim. You are such a blessing. I was so confused with the Christian Prayer book, but with your explanation and this app I am ready to follow the prayers. God bless you and keep you safe🕊️🌷🌴🙏🏼💕
Thank you Father Jim for your wonderful explanation of The Litigury of the Hours.I was a little confused about how to say it but now it is so clear. Can't stop smiling as I can see that it is such a beautiful prayer. I will recommend this video to others. Thanks again and God Bless.
Thank you so very much for explaining how to pray The Liturgy Of The Hours. I now have more clarification of what to do when praying alone. Many thanks, God bless you!
Father Jim, I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to create this video!!! I've been trying to learn how to pray the LofH for years, and this video has been the ticket! God bless you and your efforts!

I used to pray the liturgy of the hours every day and left the prayers for years and oddly enough I became confused as to what to do and that made me hesitant to begin them again but this has cleared my confusion completely. Thank you Father Jim.
I just discovered this video this morning. Thank you so much; I have been trying to learn how to pray the Liturgy of the Hours and was unable to find a simple clear instruction on how to do so. Thank you so much; during this pandemic, I am trying to improve my prayer life and time. This video is a great blessing.
Thank you Father Tim, I am just starting to lead a group praying the Liturgy of the Hours, Morning Prayer, before daily mass, and found your video to be extremely helpful. Thanks be to God your excellent works. With the love of Christ, Colin
father, thank you so much for this video. I am in the discernment process and found the liturgy of the hours completely overwhelming, but you broke it down so concisely that I was able to understand it all. Many thanks and God bless!
Father it’s 2024I just found a better way of praying. You have made this so easy thank you father. The app is really good because it’s helping me understand the liturgy of the hours actually using the book. thank you father don’t stop doing what you’re doing. You’re helping a lot of people including myself and my family. God bless.
Dear Fr. Jim, I cannot thank you enough!! I have been praying the Morning and Evening prayers for quite some time, but using a different APP. When a group of us decided to have a Holy Hour (for the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus), I put it together and sent it to our deacon for review. Needless to say, he uses the Breviary, so the prayers did not match! I tried using the Breviary app, but didn't know what to do with the hyperlinks, felt lost, and just returned to the "tried-and-true" one I had been using. We just had another Holy Hour this week and I had an opportunity to have a conversation with our deacon. He graciously offered to not only teach me how to pray using the book, but also offered to give me the copy he used when he was in Diaconate formation! My wife and I pray the Rosary together every night. I am hoping (now that I am learning!) to emulate our deacon and his wife and include praying the Night Prayer together as they do! Thank you again for such a thorough - and simplified - explanation!! God bless you! 🙏
That's just the most helpful lesson about how to read the Liturgy of the Hours I've ever seen! (I think it helped a lot also that I downloaded the app and followed everything as you spoke). In some other videos people were explaining using printed versions, so I got completely lost during the explanation. Thank you very much!
This was a good attempt to be helpful. I have been trying to understand how to pray the Hours for years now with little success. The basic problem comes down to 3 basic issues: 1. The available 1 volume breviary of Christian Prayer is totally impenetrable on its own. You cannot determine how to use it correct without help. 2. Most priests use the 4 volume set, not the one volume; they assume a familiarity with the material the most beginners simply do not have. 3. Average Catholics don’t care about this discipline. It’s very difficult to find anyone in the laity at an average parish who know anything about the Hours. Thank you for trying to help Father. Maybe a more basic introduction involving the book as well as the app would be more useful for those of us at square one.
Just an FYI that this can be accessed on a computer (without having to download any third-party program!) by going to the iBreviary site. Thank you again Father for this outstanding tutorial! Peace & Blessings!!
God bless you! Recent and much needed in this time! Thank you for doing this father, you made it sound so easy and understandable ! Going to share this with my friends ☺️
I just knew about the Liturgy of the Hours and this was the second vid I saw after Fr. Casey explained on his vid the fundamentals of the Liturgy of the Hours. Thank you so much Fr. Jim! I'm downloading the app now.
Thank you for creating this video. It definitely cleared up some of the mechanics of praying the Divine Office for me. Could you explain the significance of the asterisks and the other crosses? For example, in today's morning prayer on iBreviary, in the second strophe the line "the man with clean hands and pure heart" ends with a red cross. Thanks again!
Good question! The daggers (†) you see in the text are used when an asterisk (*) has already been used. In normal text, *'s and †'s point to different footnotes. In the LOTH, they both indicate to the reader to continue to the next line. This is helpful in communal prayer so the ones praying the current strophe know to continue to the next line or line break.
When praying Daytime Prayer (Midmorning, Midday, and Midafternoon), there is a section of three psalms. Then there is a direction in red that says “At the other hours, the complementary psalmody is used.” And then the Midmorning, Midday, and Midafternoon Readings and Prayers are listed. The trouble is - I don't understand where the complementary psalmody is listed. Please help me, I can't pray the Day Time Hours properly.
Great video! thank you so much for the demo. Like many of the other comments I have much confusion when using the Christian Prayer book. It gets to the point where I'm thinking about the sequence more than the prayer which is very disheartening. I watched many videos to try to understand it but this is the best I've seen. I am not a fan of praying with my phone because it feels like an idol and is easy to get distracted from, but I can use the app to get myself more confident and then switch over to the book again.
Thankyou. May our Lord Jesus bless you and make you to prosper and make you so very Holy. Amen. Lord Jesus imprint thy Divine Likeness upon our hearts so shall we never part. Amen.

iBreviary is a great app but I like the DivineOffice app much better. At the hymns they will sing it and the parts of the Divine office that are sung that aren't hymns are also done. They have links to the hymns where you can download the music and/or the sheet music. It's really like sitting with a group of friends praying!! You can also set reminders for all the hours and add your own just in case you want to add other prayers.
Thank you so much, Father, for taking the time to go over these steps with us. Very well done and so appreciated!! I just downloaded the app! Awesome! GOD BLESS YOU!! 🕊️
Thank you soooooooooooo much Father! I'm putting together a list of spiritual resources for diocesan marriage and family life directors and this is so helpful! Stay safe and saintly!

Thank youFather Jim. I am a beginner on Liturgy of the Hour. Last night I ordered my books from Amazon, and it will be delivered by Aug 18th but I want to start so I found your channel. I will be following you. God Bless
Well it s first time when i see your channel, and I mustat say that today was the third day when i started LOH, ,and despite the fact that i listened to other videous about that, I was just reading from the app. Did n know exactly what to do and it s means) Thank so much for explanations, it helped me a lot. That means God wants me to pray LOH, of course in a better and proper way. Thank you, you have me as a new follower. Have a blessed Sunday.

Just gave you a 👍 Fr Jim. Best vid on who to use iBreviary I have seen on RU-vid. By a priest no less 😉. iBreviary is a great app but short on documentation. . Would you explain the difference and use for the small red cross (more like a plus sign) and red cross (more like a crucifix cross) that appears at the end of sentences? You explained in Vid the small red cross is a cue to make a sign-of-the-cross. What is the cue for the other red cross?
this was great thank you, i have been looking for someone to give a step by step instruction for the LOTH. i have been doing the Magnificat since the lockdown started but I am looking to start the hours. thank you peace
This is awesome! I was so lost and confused how to start praying the hours, and this did a great job of clearing up a lot of confusion. But what do the red asterix's mean?
I had the same question, but found the following from Father (above): "Good question! The daggers (†) you see in the text are used when an asterisk (*) has already been used. In normal text, *'s and †'s point to different footnotes. In the LOTH, they both indicate to the reader to continue to the next line. Thanks father for your instructions, but is there an audio one for us Old & home alone people so we feel somebody’s there praying with us besides we do not go the wrong way? Please recommend Thanks once again God bless your ministry.
Beautiful presentation BUT take the time and make the effort to actually learn to use the Breviary. You can start with the one-volume "Christian Prayer" but learn to use the actual breviary. Get hold of "Discovering Prayer" by Seth Murray. It is a readily available and free pdf. The screen is fine when you are not at home, but during times when you can be home and have some private time, learn to use the physical book!
Fr. Jim’s explanation of the LotH has started me to recite the Morning and Evening prayers. I understand what to do at the crosses which look like plus signs but what do the other crosses and asterisks mean throughout the prayer? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you and God bless.
Hi Fr. Jim, thank you so much for creating this! This is extremely useful as I start to pray Liturgy of the Hours in my daily life. The app was confusing at first but your video has made things abundantly more clear. I am curious - you mention to small red crosses where we would make the sign of the cross, but I noticed that there are other small crosses (that look slightly different) that are marked in the text. The asterisks, I believe denote the changing from one reader/choir to another when prayed with others, but what do the other crosses mean? Thank you and God bless you!
it was hard to follow because I could not pull up the same date as you had. what is a stope? in the antiphon what are the Asterix for ? after the responary there was no Gospel on my breviary. I downloaded the same one you have.
Wow... So glad I found your channel Father. Subscribing right away. I had one question please: What if the night prayer is my first and only LOH, what happens to the invitatory prayer that's given in the morning prayer??
