Got to love the comments: Last structure fire most complained about so many people. Now it is not enough. You all cry for paid, but do not want to pay for higher taxes, and besides almost every paid department runs ems calls to justify their paid department.
Nice job for being short handed. Got a game plan and went inside to get it. Perfect. Too many times you see "Walking around, walking around, then breaking windows".
good work with a tight crew. This was the second call, units were on site for a gas leak in a occupied apartment complex just prior to this being dispatched, also the reason for the early call for additional resources as the first due truck and engine were already committed.
I have a few questions I'm gonna ask after watching this video that I'm confused with Why was the guy that was wearing the florescent hoody moving the hose around not wearing any turnout gear?? VERY unsafe Why was the guy who was video taping this not asked to move across the street once the chief confirmed a working fire and called a 2nd alarm? Had there been an explosion or structural collapse this could've been a nightmare scenario. How was a single firefighter allowed to enter a structure fire alone with a hose line with the 2nd engine arriving moments before he went inside. Had that building collapsed or flashed over or godforbid he had to put out a mayday he would've been screwed. How come when the chief was walking around the exterior of the building he was not wearing any turnout gear? I'm in no way shape or form criticizing these firefighters but you can definitely tell these are volunteers
A couple other comments clear this up but here ya go. There was a another active call going on gas leak with Evac so everyone else tied up with that. This came in as a smoke scare I was first on scene, that wasn’t the Chief 2120 he was on the local garbage truck and in the area so responded directly to the scene they are both active members who came off the trash truck. As for me filming I felt I was in a safe distance & with the owners of property. At anytime if someone asks me to move I do right away. Yes anything coulda happened but I’m ready for that. I’m also wearing a fireproof jacket on scenes. Due to the active fire and short staffed I think they thought it was best to knock it before it spread, I think that was the right call with only being a reported small fire at the time from the owners. I can’t speak for the company just what I saw on scene the fire was contained & out very quickly & saved the building by there fast actions.
Incident commander gave a fairly bad initial report. Should have been something like “we have a small, one story commercial structure, decent to light smoke, upgrade to a working fire. Second of all, why did he have the engine block the way for a ladder truck? The engine was fine before it backed up. Just some pointers
They did a good job of putting this fire out but how can you upgrade to a 2nd alarm fire when you can't locate fire or nobody on scene that can determine if there is even fire.
They upgraded it because of manpower issues. It’s better to have more crews on the way and then recall them if not needed, rather than have no additional crews with a short staffing and call for 2nd alarm when the fire is getting worse
You know what, for short staffed full volley, this crew did a pretty solid job. 1 engine with 2 guys getting the K/D? Pretty impressive, even if it is a small fire.
I have been in the fire service in The same county I have been president a couple years of the county Fireman Association so I’ve gotten to know some of the guys they are pretty damn squared away and do some kick ass Stuff
1000 percent agree! This response was impressive in several ways. An early alarm, and well trained crew / incident commander, an an impressive response time! This crew had everything in their favor minus the short staffed 2 man engine first due. All said and done this crew deserves recognition for an overall incredible performance! WELL DONE 22
I wondered why he up graded to a second alarm but these boys are working with very little personnel.Keep up the dedication keep ‘em volunteer their ain’t many left that’s something to be proud of.Train,Train,Train some of the best firefighters I’ve ever been around were very humble volunteers.
Great video! Monday morning quarterbacking put aside I think It was a heck of a good job, sometimes in a small community you pretty much just have to deal with what you have for a crew. With folks working during the day that can put a big hole in a departments staffing during the day. Where I live departments have to rely on mutual aid a lot to get the job done.
he did a great job upgrading the fire due to the conditions mutual aid was close and ready to go, not to mention district 2 was fully staffed two ladders. Brenton woods also sent an engine along with a rescue for this fire.
@@geoffg8840 unfortunately that’s not even remotely close to possible since he is not a member or line officer of any department to my knowledge. And in NJ I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to own a two way radio as a civilian
They worked fast and I like it when firemen gets a fire put out fast but the guy making the video was turning the camera so fast and much that I was getting dizzy
A little over reaction to call a second alarm for light smoke showing only interior. No exterior smoke showing. I’d definitely be questioning the ability of that first unit onscene to waste second alarm resources for a small fire
This is the Best Fire response I have ever seen on youtube. Firefighters arriving before the apparatus did the best thing they could have confirmed a working fire and left the openings shut. Firefighters had the fire out in about four minutes and the fire declared out by 7:20 video time. Great work guys.
You mean the chief arrived and declared it a working fire. The first few minutes of this video are a buff with a radio not a firefighter onscene. Imagine calling 911 and ur place is on fire and this idiot shows up first
Why he want to truck to reverse 2foot back when whete it was was good as allowed another ladder or truck to get in .totally poor decision from that man
Seems they run VERY short handed. None the less, you need door control and proper ventilation. That was probably cooking for a while and most likely has dropped ceilings, which is prone to flashover or having fire get behind you.
I think a second alarm was overkill. I know they initially only sent a ladder truck which doesn’t make sense…but a first alarm assignment took care of that.
not a ff but I live in this town. I explained to the guys who own this business this and that I carry an extinguisher in my car if they needed, when he showed me the smoke I new it was out of control already.
Quick response and knockdown. But OSHA is not going to like a man with no protective gear handling hose. Nor should the chief. What if there was blowback out the door?
from the lay person , it seems like the firefighters spend alot of time fussing with their gear.. their helmet, their tanks, their masks.... dont they get geared up on the drive to the fire? seems like alot of time spent in front of the building just getting dressed
Like the description says very short staffed for this fire (full volunteers) the guy can’t drive with his tank on either can the chiefs or any officers so you’ll always see them putting on gear on FG.
When does the driver have time to get the air pack on while getting the engine to the scene? Think it would be safe while doing so? They have a 2 man crew the other guy working the radio. I'm sure if they had 3 or more personnel on the truck 2 would have been ready mask and all but turn the air on
So, that's the excuse. ALL stations tied up, let's let one engine with one firefighter handle instead of Mutual Aid that isn't tied up. Sounds safe. SMH.
It’s a 1 story commercial with access for a ladder on the Bravo side in the parking with no obstacles. Would be easier for them to set up in the parking lot next door and the can be reached with ground ladders
They showed up and put the fire out in haste. No windows unnecessarily smashed and no doors kicked in. How in any way shape or form was this not "well coordinated"?
@@MeirLichtenstadter how do you know what is going on inside the building? Do you have x-ray vision? They are volunteers and most of their other guys were tied up with a previous in progress call. It's better to call in the extra resources and not need them, versus needing them and not having them
I hope someday there is a mandatory course in camera work prior to uploading. I realize these are live and unedited but you would be amazed at how much better a video is when you slow your movements down. The super fast pans are unnecessary. Slow and steady movements in order to frame a new shot makes all the difference with live, raw video.. And, yes, I have taken courses and worked as a videographer.
I seen this video I seen things are not right one firemen did not have there hoodie 2 some of them don't have there fire gear on an still go in to help not good 3 I just seen some sanded a round where they can help not good in my eyes.......
I’m not the one here crying buddy. Sorry you got so butt hurt from my comment. Would you like to fill out a butt hurt form, it comes with a cookie and blanket.
