In my campain i made a rule if you are not a Race of the Setting you will be the only one of your race. We have an aarakroka as Caramons And Tika Yongest adoptive daugther (In my campain all the book characters are retired adventurers. Thet found her egga thinking it was Griffin egg but they and the Majere end up adopting her) there no other Like her And a warforge that has no idea from where he comes from tho he may be from Gnome Origin.

I love this video! Dragonlance is exactly these things, and not less. If you don't want to play it like this, the way it is written and only as it's written, then just play a different setting. Play as you want, of course, but Dragonlance is just another vanilla setting if you do.

Great vid as usual! This is really helpful for new players to DL. I can't wait to show my son, we're still on DL 2. I'll just have to pause the vid before the part on the good Dragon Eggs cause he doesn't know about that yet. We played last night and had an awesome session. He designed a frying pan / sword combination to have Theros craft to give to Tika, so she would be more comfortable, and he told Solostaran, the Speaker of the Sun, that he must not like his son Gilthanas very much cause he keeps sending him on dangerous quests! haha. He's really into it which makes me love this great setting even more, thanks!

Hi Adam, thank you so much for your videos. here in Brazil we have very little Dragonlance content so they have been helping a lot. A doubt Bards, Sorcerer and Warlock how should they be treated? Do I exclude them or do I place them as mandatory classes following the Order of High Magic? About the druids should I exclude them too? Just like paladins and clerics? Since I would like to set up a campaign at the beginning of the era of despair, a story that takes place at the same time as the Blue Crystal Staff. about the races I was in doubt if I can consider the Kagonestis as a playable race adapted from the Wood Elves considering that they are more primitive.
@DLSaga
@DLSaga Год назад
Remember that you can do anything in your home game. If it’s in the age of despair before the war of the Lance, you can have the gods send the heroes on a quest of their own to discover divine magic. Any arcane caster after 3rd level will eventually draw the attention of the wizards of high sorcery, so they will need to test.

@@DLSaga Hi Adam, thank you very much! Keep up the incredible work of presenting and explaining this incredible scenario!
@GhorigOfTheHranFel
@GhorigOfTheHranFel Год назад
If I may offer some insight: first, I wouldn't bar anyone from playing a class, it's who your player is in your campaign, find a way to make it work! Here's how I do it: Bards use arcane magic, so their magic isn't unusable until the old gods are discovered, they can cast their spells. The wizards of high sorcery would be interested in regulating this magic, some bard spells are pretty powerful (power word kill). So they would need to take the test of high sorcery. Sorcerers would be regulated and I would think be subjected to the test of high sorcery as well. Warlocks fall into divine category, but their origin is from a pact with "an otherworldly being". It does state the power does not come from a god. If you're creative, you can have your warlock have power when no one else does. They have to have a very good reason to defy the gods who have decided to hold their hand back from the world. Also, be careful, they would become very popular very quickly! Or, you can subject them to the same rules as clerics as I do. The gods hold the otherworldly beings in check just like mortals. Although I could make a case for an evil warlock/cleric/wizard having power, since that IS how draconians were created when supposedly no one casted spells. Takhisis allowed select evil mages and clerics corrupt the eggs. Druid magic is divine on Krynn. I can't see druids or rangers for that fact going through the test of high sorcery, it just sounds absurd. PHB 5e states druids gain spells and other magical powers from the force of nature itself or a nature deity, so you can go either way. The way I see it, all magic is either divine (from the gods) or arcane (from the moons). Most of these seem to fall in the in-between, you just got to go with what makes the most sense to you.
@rodrispelaes
@rodrispelaes Год назад
@@GhorigOfTheHranFel Brian, thank you very much! Your ideas shed light on these classes and how to add them to the setting. I still have a little doubt about the Monks, but it seems that there is a monastery that I can work on.
@GhorigOfTheHranFel
@GhorigOfTheHranFel Год назад
@@rodrispelaes I have a low level monk in my campaign and I completely forgot about him as far as origins of magic. Luckily he's low level (just turned 2!) and has just recently got the power of Ki yet hasn't used it yet. The only monk power he has used is his martial arts. PHB does call Ki magic. It is divine and the PHB even mentions most monks are devoted to Majere. I would say their discipline allows them the use of martial arts (they're not really a monk without it!), but the power of Ki is turned off until the old gods return.

Nice video. But let me point out some of the major issues in the setting so people born since it was created will not loose it. - Do not go for racism in the world and re-frame it as Nationalis in the more modern sense but without the modern communications. The effect is the same but it makes a less tense table. Each group is in enclaves and work from there. - Avoid Human race issues by calling them out. We all know what the deal is with Goldmoon. She is a great character but yeah Brownface not so good. Lampshade that by pointing out things that make it make sense. - Do not let the art limit you. The lack of characters of various brown ethnicity should not be considered a barrier and I recommend they be a thing everywhere. The art from 40 years ago (while great) should be considered just a few persons not everyone. I was a black guy half elf Ranger. One guy at the table was a East Asian looking cleric. - Accept the mistakes in world building with a wink and a nod. Like ALL the good dragons lost their eggs 🥚 , really? All the areas are closed off even to bards and merchants, really? They had to kill all the innocent people in Istar instead of just kicking the Priest King out like they do everyone else, really? Couldn’t just tell all the dragons 20,000 to the one that bites off his head (or the blue silver partnership that does it), really? Just get used to that feeling! - Kender! Seriously, you must have the Kender override! Remember they don’t steal and keep. They don’t look for valuable or powerful things. They are child like. A shield given a choice between a cheap pretty ticking watch and the magic blade of kick butt will choose that watch and leave it someplace working a few minutes. The stealing is fun and giving it back is a free reaction to any event or initiative. - For the Players - You can stop gaining levels anytime you like to stay under the cap. But same time, it is possible that a mage over the cap could challenge a evil goddess and kick her scaly hide- or get kicked out of the world. Your call. - To players that read the book. Roll to see if your PC can figure out things you know and be honest about it. You can play this world even after you read the books that way. - For the DMs - let the players change EVERYTHING and even burn the world down but let the world resist this. Just because the books had it that everyone when back into hate mode, let the players change this if they want. The players will have huge (literal) alies with a lot of cash and power to make changes. Likely they will want good to ever win. Let them try but also let the neutral gods send info and thought to them. Remind them of Istar. If you see what I mean.
