Mike Muir loved Rob's playing so much, they created a funk band, Infectious Grooves. Based off what Rob played on Suicidal and Infectious Grooves, I knew he'd be completely underutilised in the trebleworld of Metallica. I was just glad a good dude got a great paying gig.

I genuinely think Rob was the only person who could fill the very obvious void that still lingered with the original Metallica guys. Jason was too far removed from Cliff in every way but Rob brings back the feel and vibe of Cliff whilst putting his own spin and energy into the songs. Genuinely nice guy it seems as well who gets his place within Metallica and thoroughly deserved the million dollar handshake he got.

I got to see them live on this tour when they opened for Queensryche. We got to the venue before the doors opened and while we were waiting outside a white "free candy" type van pulls up to the curb and out pops the members of ST. They setup a table with a bunch of pizza and had ice chests full of Pepsi. They were so nice.. "Hey! Come get some pizza and a pepsi!" They also handed out promotional a cassette with a plain white cover that just said "Taste Test" on it and hung around and signed it. Very unexpected and cool experience.

NoMeansNo is a very interesting and unique band. They mashup punk with weird versions of jazz. The consistent members are the Wright brothers. Rob, who is the bass player has also played a lot of guitar in the band. What they always did was make the guitar and base play the same part. Like Rob almost played the base like guitar, even when they had Andy or Tom as a guitarist. For a while, the band was only duo of the brothers and IMO thats the most interesting period of the band where Rob wrote both bass and guitar parts. Wrong is probably their best and most liked album, but Why Do They Call Me Mr. Happy? is the most artisticaly complex. The songs fully blend into each other. From this album is amazing the section before and after Happy Bridge. I would love to see rection to Madnees & Death, Happy Bridge and Kill Everyone Now listened in a single session.

I saw Robert with Metallica in 2004, and he got a chance to spotlight some of his playing. The setlists online don't specify, it was probably a short medley but I think parts of "Anesthesia" were in there. Regardless, I was looking to see what he could do and was impressed. Very underrated player, and underutilized in Metallica.

Love ST, love Rob's time in the band... but if you wanna hear Rob funk out you gotta listen to Infectious Grooves. I'm solidly in the camp that believes that Thrash came from metal drummers adapting punk beats and/or punk drummers playing in metal bands. ST started as a punk band and personnel changes caused an evolution in their sound.

You made me a happy man... Please follow this with their song "Accept My Sacrifice" or "Asleep at the Wheel" off their follow up album from 1992 ART OF REBELLION. He pulls off some pretty impressive playing on both albums... His tone on that album is far too underrated. I stood in awe when I saw Suicidal open for Megadeth in 92. Rob's part in Accept My Sacrifice he was front and center with his foot up on the monitor belting out the sickest sounding notes... When you hear the song, you will know exactly what part I am talking about. Cheers, and thank you!

@jaron91
@jaron91 6 месяцев назад
@@TruckJohnson that's a actually a fair point about Violent & Funky. I tend to slip into suggesting tracks that I like as a song, and while the bass track is absolutely funky, it is very repetitive for the types of videos he does. I still think he'll enjoy it, though. I saw ST & IG at the old State Theater in Detroit right after Rob left (around 94-95) with an 18 year old Josh Paul on bass. I had seen ST several times (and a few other bassists) before, but the first time with IG. Josh is a badass, as well.

Infectious Grooves is a side project of Rob and Mike Muir, Jay's been jamming with them since leaving Slipknot and uploaded this studio session, Rob's in full mosh mode stomping around the studio like Godzilla in Tokyo. Saw them open for Queensryche on the Mindcrime Tour. When he was announced as the new Metalica bassist I was happy as a clam. He's the best fit since Cliff.

The Art of Rebellion and Infectious Grooves- The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move are two albums that really showcase Robert’s talents. Check those out.

Rob is a beast, for sure. Aside from Suicidal Tendencies and Infections Grooves, he has had stints as Ozzy's bassist in the studio and on tour. He's had a few other studio appearances, such as for Jerry Cantrell and a couple songs used for Black Label Society. He's also in Nickel Creek's video for "Smoothie Song", which is worth a look, and also joined Rodrigo y Gabriela a couple times for their cover of "Orion".

My favorite band of all time. ST has always been about funky bass lines. Check out infectious grooves as well. That’s the funk arm of punk.

I'm rather shocked that you're not that familiar with Mr. Trujillo's library. Infectious Grooves, ST, Jerry Cantrell solo stuff, Ozzy, Black Label, Metallica... Robert is The Man \m/.

On the EP before Lights, Camera, Rev... (Controlled By Hatred/Feel Like Shht Deja Vu) Rob is listed as Stymee which was a joke standing for "ST, whY Me?!" but not sure if he actually played on any of those songs; maybe 1 or 2

Major label recordings from like 1988 to 2003 are the absolute pinnacle of perfection in recorded sound on records. Like Mudvaynes LD50, Machine Heads Burn My Eyes, And Justice For All (which SUCKS it has no bass but the sound is insane on that record) Faith No More's Angel Dust, Alice In Chains Dirt, Soundgardens 90s records, Korns records, Pearl Jam's Ten, Nevermind, Primus' 90s albums, etc..just untouchable quality. This records a good example. Now people need to stop picking the most basic of songs on bass for you to check out. This songs rad, but i would NEVER have said out of all Rob's songs on record to check this out. Anything off the 1st Infectious Grooves record is FIRE. "The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move, Its The Infectious Grooves" record. You NEED to listen to the entire record. His work on Groove Family Cyco is great, but I would not recommend Violent n Funky. Same exact bassline entire song like this one only switches octaves. You guys need to pick better song examples,lol. Love ya'all but stop picking all these bands "singles" as example songs. Try Punk It Up or Bring It Back To The People or anything off the 1st Infectious Grooves record. Just saying. Love ya'all, love the channel

Gotta say-- I've been bumping "Send Me Your Money" since it came out, so this video was a pleasant surprise! Before I forget-- check out ST's EP "Six The Hard Way." If you played the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, you've heard "Cyco Vision." Rob REALLY gets to do stuff on "Refuse," "What's the Word," and "I Saw Your Mommy (live)."

ST has gone through more drummers than Spinal Tap, there were 3 before RJ Herrera and about 9 more after him, Jimmy DeGrasso was directly after him, the most prominent drummer they've had was Dave Lombardo between 2016-2021 before he left to join Testament for an album and tour.
