The speaker emphasises godliness. Surely the most amazing thing here is that by His promises we BECOME PARTAKERS OF THE DIVINE NATURE. Isn’t that AMAZING.
Jesus is God's Greatest and Most Precious promise... God's Great and Precious promises that make us partakers of the Divine Nature are Jesus as Savior and the Holy Spirit!!
Thank you pastor. I've been wrestling with this passage. I got as far as connecting the propositions and needed help in putting it all together. THIS passage is a must for discipleship.
I, Annelies Bakker, agree with the words spoken in 2 Peter 1:3-4 for my life to seeing the glory of God in my life advancing, in the name and blood of Jesus Christ: amen!
Glory be To Yahweh! He has chosen me to be one of His believers & I myself can openly say that I bear witness to seeing His majesty's beautiful just face in the heavens with the actual sun in the center of His head, He also had wings like dove and there was a big big book in front of Him✋🏼 I ask Him to Guide me in the truth so that nothing is of my own. May Yahweh deliver us from the satan on earth through the word of His Holy scriptures! Amen✋🏼🙏🏼
May the love of God and the sweet communion of the Holy Spirit our God, rest, rule and abidd in us each quarter of the day that we all may be fully indwelled and enfilled to both hear and do according to His revelation - that eternal knowledge of Him who we serve and are slaves to be glory, honor and majesty through our suffering which we identify in Christ Jesus' death of the cross. I pray oh my LORD to not only hear this word' but both understand and apply in faith to deliverance of weakness and shame because of sin. Free me my Jesus. Come Lord Jesus! Come indeed!
So to sum it up: -God's divine power has granted us all things that pertain to life and godliness. -God has granted us life and godliness through the knowledge of God. -God called us to his own glory and excellence. -God has granted to us his precious and very great promises through his glory and excellence. -We may become partakers of the divine nature (godliness) through God's promises. [Not us becoming God!] -We may become partakers by escaping the sinful desires of the world--again, through God's promises. So.... God's Glory and Excellence -> God's Call and Promises -> Our Knowledge of God -> God's Divine Power (to combat sinful desire) -> Life of Godliness. Beautiful! (And I may have made mistakes, so let me know!) EDIT: Oops, I did this before 6:46! :P
I love you for this Pastor John. I thank God that he has given you such a love for His Word that you are willing to take the time to do this. This is so precious, and awesome. May God receive all of the Glory, amen!

👎📹(I👍😭2 Peter 1:3-4 his divine power has granted to us all things that pertain I need want Life and Godliness through the knowledge of him who called own glory excellence by which he precious very great promises so them you may become partakers or nature having escaped from corruption is in World because sinful desire).
Thank you for this lab! I am very grateful for your ministry and variety of resources that you provide on desiring God. My question is a technical one - how you do Look at the book? Currently I am taking course on Bible arcing and want to present this method in our Bible study group. So, if it possible, could you share what software and hardware do you use - is a tablet or something else? Thank you!
This was awesome but has no one else noticed that the scripture says, pretty plainly, a knowledge of "him" (him being God), not a knowledge of our calling as Piper suggests.
It seems to me that the "by which" is referring to firstly "knowledge of Him" and through that also referencing "His power". Those being causes while "his own glory and excellence" is a result of the cause or effect. A state of being. Thoughts?
I also have been studying this part and at first I got the same as pastor John, but with further meditation on the passage I partially agree with you both - the ‘by which’ I believe is referring to ‘knowledge of Him’ and ‘His own glory and excellence’ - I believe the knowledge of Him is the central part (catalyst) for this section of scripture. The verse prior is also centred on the knowledge of God. Thoughts?
This passage is probably from the ESV because that's the most reformed translation. I would argue, however, that Piper is really using a Greek Text on the front end then applying this break down to the English. I say this because 1.) that's the way almost every seminary teaches ministers to approach the text and 2.) he points to the word "which" and calls it plural. Which cannot be plural or singular in English but must be plural or singular in Greek to show which word it modifies. That's my two cents.
