Precious baby orangutan Mabel is now safe at our BORA orangutan rescue and rehabilitation centre. She was rescued by the BKSDA East Kalimantan on 10 November after being kept in a tiny bird cage at someone’s house.
Mabel needed urgent medical care and has been receiving around the clock care. She is still very tired and traumatised from her ordeal but is eating some fruits and drinking milk. When she is not cuddling with one of her caring babysitters, she has fluffy blankets to rest on.
The Orangutan Project funds the entire running costs of the BORA orangutan rescue and rehabilitation centre.

Poor thing has puffy eyes like it's been crying a lot. Looks scared, shy, and confused. Was eating the banana slowly but when the person walked over it looked so terrified. As if it's previous owner was beatin it for eating. One milestone at a time little one. You'll get there. Let these sweet people nurse you back to health and lead your heart back to love so you can be happy again. It's hard without your momma but you CAN DO IT!!!😊

The eyes are puffy from lack of sleep this is not a human and does not cry like a human being if you cry in a wild forest a predator hears you and eats you.

@@mattias969 Read it again. Before trying to teach someone who already knows. They have tear ducts but they're only for ocular cleaning and lubrication. Their brain doesn't connect tears with the wailling. It says puffy eyes "LIKE" AS IF. IF IT WERE POSSIBLE. like it has been crying a lot. (Like as in IF it could cry) See, just because I word things differently than you doesn't mean I need you to educate me. Thank you!

Sweet little baby needs love and compassion. Not forced to live in the wild. These animals belong with people. It's painfully obvious to free thinking people.

Hi Sue, Mabel will be at our BORA care centre until she is old enough and skilled enough to go back to the wild. It will take quite a long time until that happens. In the mean time she will receive appropriate care and love from our staff.

That is incredibly cruel, locking a baby orangutan in a bird cage I can't believe it, not even a bird would feel comfortable in it.Animal protection law must be improved worldwide, no one can look the other way.🤬 Albert Schweitzer's ethic of reverence points in the same direction: "I AM THE LIFE THAT WANTS TO LIVE, AMIDST THE LIFE THAT WANTS TO LIVE." Everyone should take that to heart❣
