I was in the store when this video was being recorded. I asked Barrett what they were playing upstairs and he told me the Tama Star metal snares. I said “awesome!” The wife said “you’re not getting one.”
@@drumcenternh what tunebot settings did you use for the aluminum if you don't mind me asking. I bought one and I feel like I can't get a good crack out of it. Almost too fat no matter what I do
The copper one sounds just fantastic and it's an extremely versatile material that surely goes perfect from lows to highs.with those warm dark overtones . Compared the brass snare sound equally good with the more of mid and high emd expected. The aluminum sounds particular, has the controlled overtones pf the aluminum but not that expected "warmness" in the tone, wich in exchange seems to have a more focused crack (it's like the "yamaha maple custom absolute" of aluminum shells!). Wonder if that is more 'cause of the arc hoops , the 2x thicker shell or both. A head to head between the two kind of hoops on the same shell would also be very valuable info for customers! Excellent video!
My hand-hammered Copper (pre-Star Reserve) is just awesome. Probably the best drum I own. I really wish I didn't see the brass one. I'm going to try and pretend I didn't.
The aluminum snare sounded the most "alive" to me. Loved it. The brass snare sounded a bit choked or something. The copper snare was decent. I'd buy the aluminum snare in a heartbeat.
Hi again guys!!! I loved the Third aluminum snare, the focusing of the attack within its hoops, with the curve being drawn into the head and not away is amazing!! AND, just for giggles, the "tunebot" was so close in tuning on all three, I actually had to run it through my Soundcraft console with the -20dB pad engaged, just to be able to get the volume up, and so much in order to really check the "tunebot" with reference in the cans, the near fields and the far fields, which by the way was shaking the crap outta the control room, I can only imagine how intense the sound of this snare drum (and subsequent kick too) would be in a 50K+ person venue and through a gigantic PA system!!! But, I have one small problem gents... the cost of these drums are ridiculous!!! I honestly believe that is our problem here in this business!! Stupid priced instruments that are supposedly "handcrafted," and I am not so sure they are!! We humans have found ways to automate everything, then, we take the credit for doing "by hand!!" There's about $25.00 in raw materials in that drum, ALL IN!! And, the price... A COOL $1,200.00 ... SERIOUSLY!!! KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK... "HELLO, COME BACK DOWN TO EARTH!!!" Apparently, you only want THE RICH AND FAMOUS to play on these drums, ehyy 🤔!?! WHAT... YOU DON'T THINK THIS IS A PROBLEM !!!??????!!! **I seriously hope you don't delete this comment, let's just have the masses chime in on this and see how they feel!!!** This is normally where I put my universal, "ANYWAY,... blah, blah, blah... BUT, not this time, you gotta earn that!!!
HEY MAN!!! Do you have the sheet music up on the ceiling again...?? I see you looking up there, and you said you were not going to do that anymore!! Just kidding ya!! ANYWAY, KEEP ON KEEPING ON BROTHER DRUMMER!!!!!!!!!! PEACE!!!!!!!!!!🤘🏼
I have the copper and brass. Love them. The aluminum may well be in my collection at some point. It does not sound like your typical aluminum drum though.
Tama's crushing it lately with everything, but especially their snares.... These all sound spectacular, my favorites being the bronze and Aluminum. I would really have liked to hear both drums with die-cast hoops.
i have seen all kind of reviews of metal snares, but still i dont have a big preference, i tend to prefer aluiminum, i dont know why, but still my taste change it does change from snare models, of course heads, tunning and who is playing makes a diference too.
I just got the copper one 2 days ago and I’m absolutely in love! It sounds great in all tuning ranges, but I was really blown away by how well it sounds tuned low. I may have to get the aluminum next 😅
Ive had the copper and then the brass 5.5.. i found the brass much more versatile, still souding good at any tunning... had a harder time to get is as good with the copper one..
They all sounded great and picking one out as a favorite would be tough. If I was in the market to purchase one I'd want to play each one to not only hear them live but experience the feel and response of each drum. They certainly are beautiful looking drums. I regret that in past years I didn't pay a little more attention to Tama. I never owned any of their kits, or even snares.
Honestly, I really wasn’t to impressed with any of them. That’s kind of a surprise because I usually am a big fan of aluminum. I just wasn’t impressed. I’d more then likely go with a DW cast aluminum or a Gretsch USA solid aluminum…
