I dunno, it's been a tough week, you're half in the bag and suddenly one of Dave's video's pops up in your feed. You hear that character laden voice, you see the low-fi production, it's like a 70's tv show - you know he's going to fix the problem by the end of the episode - but you don't care, you want him to AND you want him to explain it to you like the way your grandfather did when you were a child and happened to wander into the garage when he was fixing something up. Dave just takes you back to a time when things were a little more innocent. The world needs a little more "Dave". God bless you, sir.

You may not think it's an exciting video, but for us amateurs it's always exciting to see into the guts of new and different instruments and how to repair/mod them. I'm a techie who's spent some forty odd years in IT and now that I'm retired I'm thinking of maybe doing something like this to supplement my SS (at least staring with setups). The learning is the journey.

Hey Dave! Look what I'm playing in my profile picture. It's the same model and color Japanese Precision Bass from the early 1980s. I did the same pickup swap several years ago and it sounds great!

Made VS Crafted: Made In Japan = '80s-'90s Fender Japan. Crafted In Japan = 21st century Fender Japan. Pretty much all there is to it.
@nfmonteiro
@nfmonteiro 5 лет назад
Instruments stamped "Made in Japan" were made at the Fujigen factory, from 82 up until 96 or 97. "Crafted in Japan" are/were made by Dyna and Tokai and started appearing in 92 (produced by Dyna, subcontracted from Fujigen), in limited quantities, and in volume around 96/97, when Fender Japan stopped using Fujigen and switched to Tokai. Some instruments in the mid 2000's also sported Made in Japan decals, despite not being produced by Fujigen, for reasons unknown.

Only reason to remove the original pick up is when it’s broken in my opinion.... I have a made in Japan P bass with original pick ups and it’s one of the best sounding basses around. The new Fender pick up is not going to make a HUGE difference me thinks. But If you believe in it, it will. I guess?

watts means shit..the iron is 700 degrees F as per the tip installed it is a 60 watt iron that will do 600,700,or 800 depending on the tip

No copper foil shielding or nickel loaded paint in the pickup and control cavity? No wonder so many basses hum and buzz. The ame thing goes for neck shims, they have to be made of hardwood and cover the ENTIRE bottom of the neck pocket not just a a tiny sliver of plastic of cardboard at the front of the neck pocket. That is pure laziness. The neck/body connection is crucial to tone and sustain.
