NB: The best spark plug for your car is the one recommended in your owners manual. This is just a demo. A lot goes into the choice of spark plugs, it's not just about spark. Engine design plays a major role. Copper spark plugs are best for some engines, while iridium is best for others. 🙏🏼

Copper also takes more heat out of the cylinder, with the right timing a copper plug can make more power with more timing before detonation occurs, also the randomness of the spark helps find the path of least resistance and can make for a hotter more consistent spark

Probably why the gap is so much wider on the newer plugs is to create a larger spark for ignition. The iridium can take the heat and erosion much better than copper but costs way more.

@EnglertRacing96 2 года назад
The actual spark energy doesn't change much. The copper is more conductive actually.... while iridium and platinum have a much higher melting point and erode much more slowly, which is required for the finer tips. The smaller area of the finer tip provides better resistance to fouling. The higher temperature and harder platinum and iridium, in particular double iridium and double platinum are for twin post coils, where one operates in normal polarity, the reverse polarity side usually rapidly erodes the electrode and ground strap, the double platinum and double iridium hold up much better here.

Just by what's recommended by your owners manual no need to buy fancy spark plugs you',ll have shaking issues the same spark plug cables testers 😊 are sold through Walmart or Amazon

What most people wont instantly recognize is that the plug on the right will make for better combustion. The iridium plug will perform worse simply because the iridium core is undersized due to the cost, and might only be tipped with iridium. The NGK plug has a larger spark.
@DIYAutoworksNG
@DIYAutoworksNG Год назад
That's if spark is the only parameter being judged. Resistance to fouling is another issue, with fouling, performance will drop and copper is more prone to fouling. It really boils down to the engine where the spark plug will be fitted.

copper has a huge fire... It has more force to move the crank shaft than iridium, Im particular of the flame size rather than materials .
@DIYAutoworksNG
@DIYAutoworksNG Год назад
I agree. But the iridium will outperform the copper under immense temperature and strain. Simply because its able to resist fouling better. Ultimately, its about what's recommended for your car. Not all cars are designed to use iridium.

iridium is more focused, but long term it will taper & fire is not optimal. no.1 remains NGK a.k.a the usual tip.
@DIYAutoworksNG
@DIYAutoworksNG 2 года назад
Not correct. Copper doesn't last as long and as big as that flat head is, it will wear, become rounded before that tiny iridium tip wears.
@mplscarsales6652
@mplscarsales6652 2 года назад
So the Copper NGK was better then the iridium ?
@DIYAutoworksNG
@DIYAutoworksNG 2 года назад
Copper conducts electricity much better than iridium or platinum which is why its spark was larger. However copper has a low melting point and wears much quicker. Also at higher temperatures, copper spark plugs may not be as efficient.

If you look closely at the two sparks the bigger looking end is the copper and the more pointy looking one is iridium , the arc on the iridium plug is in one place and consistent across the two ends, the copper plug there's little lightning bolts jumping around at random all over. Stare at it long enough you'll see it 👍

The NGK G power have the same pointed tip as the iridium to propigate spark the same, and seem to yield the same benefits. I run them in applications where the plug is easily changed. They seem to really make a difference in older stuff that had copper plugs. (the service interval is much shorter with the G power)

@@DIYAutoworksNG the G power feature platinum, and usually cost what a copper plug does. I love them in old equipment and things that burn oil. They actually seem to go longer without fouling in an oil burner.
