I used your method and a marking knife. I am happy that my 300mm Starrett combination square is spot on.

Cheers Mike, Yes a marking knife is a good idea, I am going to recheck my Starrett and the triangle.

Wish I had you as a math teacher as a kid! What you said actually made sense. Thank you!

I'll be interested to hear Ralph from BD's comments about the carpenters square being out. I have that square.

Yes, I am going to run that test again with more accuracy and work out what the actual deviation is. Then I’ll give him a ping and check the tolerance.

Hi All, Thought I would share this with you all, how to check that 45 degree. The results amazed me. Enjoy Andy

Would like to see a comparison with the iGauge tools. Good video.

Thank you for the comment, I don’t have access to the iGauge tools. Sorry :-(

Great video Andy, I’d like to see how the Incra perfect squares do. Thanks

Cheers Kyle, i don’t have the 45 only the 90’s. It may be a good addition though, I’ll see what’s left in the budget :-) Cheers Andy

I don't consider the Pica marker with its very soft lead a precision marking device and wonder if that somehow impacted the results. Steve

Yes the marker was a compromise so the video would pick it up, I think I said that on the video. I am going to re-run that test but use my marking knife instead of a pencil. Then I can use more complex maths to calculate the variance. I was very surprised by the Sterat and the BD triangle.

Try using the Pental 0.9mm rather than the 0.5mm, it's far easier to see and far more resiliant, and doesn't need sharpening.

Thank you, I started using the 0.5 when I purchased the Incra rules (the hole is 0.5) but now I have the Benchdogs ones, I will indeed switch to the 0.9 Cheers Andy
