A method of getting a high level of control when trimming wood, leather etc, in a small area, but don't want to damage the rest of the work.
Hopefully I will have an approx. 10 minute vid. about how I make my straight awls from scratch soon. Most of the filming and editing is done.

Good little tip, that. Though I don't usually carve things, my interests are so eclectic that I can't assume I won't be in the future...

Nice knife. I use one like it for skiving. Do you use it for skiving as well?

Yes John, The Japanese knife is used for a lot of skiving, as well as general cutting, trimming etc. I made a skiving knife out of a piece of old handsaw blade, I show it in one of my other videos here, but I still have to improve the hardening and tempering of it, as the edge easily rolls :( Cheers

Duncan McHarg Thanks Duncan. Yes, I remember that skiving knife you made. Well done!
