I have a Duramax 13000 watt generator. Works great. Electrician wired an outside 50 amp box to breaker panel and interlock kit. It powered my Heat Pump and some lights. No problem. I use the propane option.
I've had good luck with the Predator engines. I've got a Honda with the same specs I have seriously considered converting it to propane as natural gas is a million miles away from here. The equipment to convert mine is north of $400 I know propane will de-rate it some but I have only loaded it to the point of tripping the 50 amp breaker at the generator. Keep us posted how the fuel mileage is on propane. Mine ends up running close to 100 hours at least in a years time so I'd kinda look forward to knowing.. That battery maintainer is a great feature! I put one on mine.. That is a nice looking genny!
Just bought this today for our food trailer & I’m very impressed how quite & powerful this is. 1) Power 5 stars 2) Loudness 4 stars 3) options 5 stars This is a must buy seriously!
Man that is a nice one. I had one that was a different brand. It was just a 6000, but I got years of good service out of it. If you had natural gas that would be nice to not have to deal with fuel. Looking forward to your hook up.
Hey Curtis . . . . at 3:32, your battery quick disconnect just to the left of the battery is not hooked up, thats why your battery wouldnt start it, it comes from the factory that way and you do that when its stored to save the battery from draining
I bought one about 2 weeks ago. very happy with it. if you don't want to keep it plugged in all the time for remote start/stop then unplug the battery and it will stay charged. i will only need mine a couple times a year so it makes no sense to keep it on charge all the time to compensate for the draw from the electronics. just plug it in when you need it. do NOT use ethanol fuel or a bare minimum remove the ethanol from it. i use propane. i also added a slight amount of ZDDP (zinc) to the oil ( they took it out years ago for smog) at the cost of the cam and tappets on non roller cam engines. the only thing i wish it had was a remote start /stop terminals on it for automatic transfer switch.
Good video! The problem with a majority of these non-inverter generators is the THD. A safe THD is less than 5%, many of these generators, Harbor Freight included, have a 12-23% THD. Great for running lights and sump pumps. The power is dirty so beware of powering sensitive electronics. TV's, Computers, Mobile Phones, Newer Furnaces, etc.
I elected to run my smaller unit in propane only to avoid the situation with gasoline needing to be stabilized, and I understand propane will give me a lower output than gasoline
I own both, they have some similarities. A few qiuck differences are the tank on the predator holds 4 gallons more, the propane hose is a qiuck connect, the valve cover is aluminum, the predator also has a "Eco mode" switch which keeps the generator at the lowest rpms necessary, the AVR is of much better quality "brand" then the westinghouse. My westinghouse has 1648 hours so I'm glad I own one but I have a feeling this one is going to surpass it just in the biuld quality alone.
back in 2008 i was hard up for a Generator and all i could find was a cheap 8750 harber freight so i got it and 16 years later its still working great. and as soon as i saw this one i went and got it and love it EXCEPT the remote start after 12 hours it turns itself off. so you still have to go outside and start it in a bad storm. and if you hit the start button to fast it wont start and you have to go outside and reset it. now i'm trying to figure out what jets it has in it to see if i can hook up propane and go with it or if i need to change them first. but i love the low idle. because i have all LED lights in my house and when the fridge turns off and not running anything other than my lights it will low idle.
Nice, but loud. Great for short-term outages, but you probably realize that the sound will attract all kinds of predators in an extended grid-down scenario. Please use only ethanol-free gasoline in this, as for any small engine; ethanol destroys seals and other rubber and/or plastic parts along the fuel line.
its pretty much impossible to buy ethanol free gasoline in most parts of the country... Ethanol is alcohol its not going to do more damage than the chemicals in gasoline which is primarily Naphtha Benzine Toluene Xylene .... pretty much all plastics and rubber type materials are resistant to Ethanol except Polycarbonate which is like that fake glass sheets you get to put in suspended ceilings over the lights... Rubber neoprene gaskets they just break down overtime and need to be replaced... I think that old wives tail started way back when a lot of old carbs went from brass parts to neoprene for needle tips and seats.
Single cylinder? Mine is a twin cylinder without a rope, not that I'd want to crank that thing with a rope anyway LOL I installed mine in the garage and piped the exhaust outside but it's still plenty loud.
How much was it again, warranty? Also since it’s a brand new model wonder if it will run into discovering glitches and such being a new product. Just wondering and guessing
Just wanted to get your opinion, I just bought a pred 13000, I live in Florida, I have a 1800 sq ft house that is 3 years old and a 2.5 ton a/c system, I am thinking about getting a soft start system for my A/C unit so I can run the whole house including the A/C during a hurricane induced power outage, do you think that this is a good idea, i have watched several videos showing the benefits and installation of the SS system, most have been positive, I'm not talking about a cheap SS system, the one I am looking at is around $300.....any advise ??
Just purchased this generator & have quick question: should the manual choke lever be left in RUN or START position if using the auto-choke feature with the battery start?
We get frequent hurricanes, and recently tornadoes have been somewhat common. But, I’m traumatized after hurricane Michael. I was completely unprepared and decided to never be that way again.
I hear ya it only takes one time I would set up to use the propane to run it and use the propane for cooking purposes also get some water tanks and prepackaged food i’m sort of prepper for anything that would happen short term but i’m thinking about long term with world events it smart idea good luck
I bought this same unit and it runs flawlessly off of gasoline but I cannot even get it to start on natural gas or propane. I have called customer service 5 times and had them troubleshoot the normal problems but was unable to resolve. Have you tried natural gas or propane?
Easily, I own this one and the westinghouse 12500. This is biult much better , has eco mode, holds 4 more gallons then anything in its class, the valve cover is solid aluminum I think this thing is biult to last.
What is THD? Total harmonic distortion. You can check it with a regular multimeter it has a V with a wavy line at the bottom. and put the leads on a 110v outlet in the generator while running. You can search up how to check thd on generator with multimeter
It is Total Harmonic Distortion and it can not be measured with a basic/typical multimeter. The setting/symbol you are referring to on a multimeter measures AC voltage. This generator appears to have up to 23% THD.
Yikes,up to 23%THD?? If true, that would be a hard pass for powering sensitive equipment, such as computers, TVs, appliances, newer furnaces/HVAC systems…..
4 hrs on mine starts then dies 2 minutes later checked everything can only be that stupid remote ! And cant do a exchange no stock once in Ill give it another shot or I won't be buying anymore from harbor big let down lost 3 jobs which could have then just bought a Honda on generic
