Predator Hunting Suppressed™ 2010

Deer season is a confusing time for predator hunters that deer hunt. We usually save coyotes until the snow flies, but it's hard when you see 3-4 every morning when you're scouting for management deer.
An early morning workout proved to be most advantageous. We get up early to lift before most of our hunts, it gets a good blood flow and allows us plenty of time to discuss a game plan for the day. We got a good 2+ hour work out in, and saw this coyote sleeping out on the alfalfa when the sun came up. Made a quick change from work-out to hunting clothes and made a break for it.
EVERYTHING was working against us, sun in our face, wind blowing directly towards him the entire stalk and the bright morning light caused the camera man to lose him for a second as he was coming in.
All-in-all, for an opportunistic hunt, rather than a planned calling session...I feel it was some great footage.

hey thats my hood, LOL!!! the reason its so sparsely populated with synthetic material, is because we like to fill the open areas with natural veg, knowing we were gonna be sneaking along a treeline, and stackyard, there was no need to fill the gaps with native grasses.

If I were you, I'd take it as a compliment. You'd make a great sniper. From most of your videos you seem to view coyote hunting the way I do, as a necessity but also a challenge. I love trying to be as concealed as possible, stalk up as close as I can, call as close as I can and be as accurate as possible. Only thing is I haven't gone suppressed yet. Your videos kick ass. Keep em comin, bud.

if there is SOME but not much snow...I would wear alternating camo schemes. Snow camo pants, regular camo jacket, snow camo facemask or hat. Or vice versa. Its one of our go-to tactics for when the snow starts to melt or is patchy. As for calling...it's a crap shoot if you don't know where they are already at. Scout during the summer, fall and times like deer season and it's a lot easier.

@RidgeRunnersd nice, I am giving serious thought to trying to stick one with a 125gr Striker Magnum this season too, but the thing I'm most excited about is trying to get one up close with the Suppressed Glock 34. We don't take back up guns like shot guns for close shots, we usually just try and stop them at or before 100 yds, but last year we had a few get within 5-10 yards from goofy angles. If it happens again, we're going to get some pistol kills for the next DVD.

@MarkDreadShootsToIll "Everything was against us" refers to the conditions involved. Any true predator hunter knows that you're chances are GREATLY reduced when you set up with the sun in your face and the wind at your back. The ghillie did very little to help, it was thrown on because we anticipated a prone shot. We decided after we got closer, to set up behind the bales for an elevated camera angle. The scope was a complete POS and I'm glad I've upgraded to a Nightforce

Good shooting cbass. You got a nice rifle set up, that suppressor sounds clean. I'm sure the wind drowned out some noise too but still a nice one. Good job by your camera man/spotter calling him in, I find sometimes people get excited and stay on the call and end up scaring away the coyote. Good vid.

They stay out in those trees and are there every day, all day. Funny part is our 1150 yard steel targets hang right on the side of the hill by those trees. (as seen in the "O'Neill Ops - In Pursuit of a Mile" video)

You're right, but we refer to it as "the season" because it's "fur season". We don't shoot them till dear season opens because that gives them a chance to build a nice winter coat. Shooting them in the spring, summer and fall is fun, but it's a waste of $40-80 cause the fur isn't prime.

@Airgunhunter75 I usually know my dope for any distance I'm comfortable shooting. I'm not sure if you can hear it...but I actually am dialing on the fly in this video. I adjusted my elevation for 400 yds because I wasn't sure if the coyote would just stand up, or i it would come in. As soon as it started running in, I had to dial back down to 200. I just use hold over for wind unless it's a long ways off and I've got time to shoot prone.

@kaianuanu I didn't take it as criticism, I was just looking for the reasons you chose your's. I've got obvious reasons for my choice as well. I think if you look close at the ballistics of a 90gr 270 bullet, you'll see that it goes fast, but it's really not that flat beyond a certain point. The larger polymer tip stuff would certainly tear a coyote up, but that's not a guarantee either. I don't hunt anywhere that utilizes a blind or a fence to rest on, but I know many guys with 16" AR's

People need to chill on the "innocent coyotes" talk. Here in Western PA, they're slowly dwindling our deer populations. Coyotes legit serve no purpose. Great video, great shot, great work. Keep it up.

@jbagglesworth 3 MAIN places make them right now. Olympic Arms has been doing it since the beginning, Mike at Dtec and Accuracy Systems, both from Olympic Arms parts. (a few other smaller places are starting to make WSSM Uppers) Olympic just released the UMAR lower and is building a 22-250 for the AR15 platform. The 243 WSSM is more like 6mm Rem AI performance than 243Win and .30-06 is also being surpassed by the Olympic Arms .30 OSSM, again, for the AR15 platform. Many options now.

I'm with ya on that, save the deer! 87 grains for dogs is bout perfect in my book and we try to take out as many as we can also, but if we don't have the video camera, we let em go for another day. Ya gotta kill about 75% to just keep the population in check, so that's our goal for the year...at least a 75% success rate on the ones we see.

@345kobi I didn't ask nor do I need your approval or respect. You clearly have no idea the countless hours of dedication that it takes to make a hunter. Hours spent studying reloading manuals and ballistic charts, not to mention the level of physical fitness needed to hunt at the level we do. You climb back in the ring and keep trying to make people proud of you...I live for myself and the ones I love.

Not a Mark 12, and not a SB, but as you can see, it'll kill a dog just the same. In all honesty, the ghillie wasn't really necessary for this hunt in particular...but when we set off on the 450 yd stalk...we weren't sure where we were going to set up, so we wanted to have it just in case. Follow the channel if you like. The DVD will be coming out in the next week or two.

Actually the most popular hunting rifle in North America is a Rem 700. The exact rifle issued to military snipers. Nothing about my rifle is military grade except how it looks. As soon as I can see, smell and hear as good as a coyote...I'll go back to hunting with a knife. Tell then, then coyotes have the advantage.

@indoctus41 As I have agreed already. There is water less than 50 feed from 95% of homes. Usually directly mounted to the outside wall of the house. They ARE vulnerable to predators like cats, owls and snakes, sometimes even skunks and raccoons. Coyotes just aren't one of them because unless they are diseased, they won't come that close to people, unless secondary measures have caused positive reinforcement. You've researched it? Well I've been doing it for nearly 15 years.
@theonlyrealcbass16
@theonlyrealcbass16 12 лет назад
@MarkDreadShootsToIll ...the suppressor didn't aid in the taking of this coyote because it was the only one we were after and I wasn't anticipating the need for a follow up shot. Once we got to our FFP, it was clear that this coyote was going to need to be taken from beyond the desired range or he would easily smell us and take off running, so as soon as my partner felt he was in the kill zone, but out of smell range, he barked to stop it. At 230 yds, my job was easy.
@theonlyrealcbass16
@theonlyrealcbass16 13 лет назад
@kaianuanu with the advances in AR's in 5 years...a bolt action is no more accurate than a gas gun and the velocity is dependent on the barrel length, not the operation method. If all things were equal, you might be able to get 20-50 fps more out of an equal length bolt action, but I would sacrifice that speed for 20 rounds of semi-auto in a heart beat. Gravity is consistent, so velocity isn't near as important as ballistic coefficient and a 90gr 270 bullet is awful lack luster in that area.

@hogbait96 actually the one in that video was my old optic a 10-40x50 Barska SWAT. It was ok for the money, but now that I've upgraded to the Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 with the NP1RR...I'll likely never buy another brand. The difference is worth it. So much so that I bought a 8-32x56 with the NPR1 for my recent 300 SAUM build. Nightforce all the way. Anything less is uncivilized.

@ZZimster apologies, but the ghillie hood belongs to the camera man. I know where it came from, but I refuse to advertise for that company specifically. I build all my own, but in this instance...all my gear was still packed up, so I just threw on his because it was handy at the time.

@theonlyrealcbass16 I like having a low profile gun whereas i find AR's a bit more difficult to maneuver in the tight quarters of say a blind or a fence you're shooting off of. I also like bolt over semi's for the added precision and velocity although this is extremely apparent. But, let me say again that this is definitely biased from my personal experience and preference. I do like the silencer though, but they are ilegal for hunting in florida and oklahoma, where i hunt.

This hunt was filmed without a tripod using a camera that has been upgraded 3 times since this video was filmed. Started with a HDR XR-500, upgraded to a Sony AX2000, then to a NX5U as well as an XF300 and 3 GoPro Hero3's. Simply put, 3 years more experience and 3 generations of upgraded equipment makes a world of difference.

@manifestgtr No sir. No military experience for me. I just respect the dedication to field craft that snipers employ. There are a lot of skills, techniques and gear that were once considered "only for the military" but they work great for the civilian hunter.
@theonlyrealcbass16

@paintballman725 m24 is a proven rifle but it's really just a military and police version of the Remington 700. 7mm has great bullet selection. I'd prefer the 180gr Berger VLD's for it. Many prefer the M24 in .308 because of the inexpensive ammo. I'd take neither and opt for a custom built 7mmSAUM myself, but that's a personal choice.
@theonlyrealcbass16
@theonlyrealcbass16 13 лет назад
@paintballman725 Most would call it an AR15, (but that refers to Armalite Rifle Model 15, the name was sold to Colt) the trademark "AR15" or "AR-15" is registered to Colt Industries, which maintains that the term should only be used to refer to their products. Other AR-15 manufacturers make AR-15 clones marketed under separate designations. I have always just referred to mine as an AR.243WSSM since it was a custom build.

@indoctus41 Exactly my point. "YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND" I didn't say coyotes don't eat "mice". I have tons of video footage of them doing it IN THE FIELD. The don't come up to you're farm house and chase them through the garden. THEY EAT FIELD MICE THAT LIVE OUT IN THE FIELD, GRASS LAND, PRAIRIE, FOREST ETC. A COYOTE DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO SLOW THE SPREAD OF COMMON HOUSE MICE. Cats, snakes, owls...those are your real "HOUSE MICE" killers. Again, just stop typing. You're making it worse.

@Mrxb0x360 if you're asking if it's OK to shoot them in the head. Yes, and it usually makes for a cleaner kill. I shot this in the throat, just below the jaw bone but I didn't mean to shoot that high. My scope was dialed for 400m (the origonal spot it was sitting), as it started to run in towards me, I decided to make scope adjustments on the fly, down to 300m, resulting in a shot that was about 3" higher than my point of aim (POI) because he got to about 175m before I pulled the trigger.

@arctiksniperful first of all, you have to be 21 to get one, you have to live in a state that allows them, and if you're going to hunt with it, you've gotta make sure they are OK for hunting. Not all states are the same. Now after all that...I got mine from O'Neill Ops out of western South Dakota...he has a channel you can find from my profile or you can do a google search. Very nice filming and shooting. I love the rifle. Makes my AR look like a terd! You ever hunt in the east? The dogs we got over here are alot harder to call and shoot than in the west...So iam told. I dont know because i have never hunted out west. There is just so much timber around here. It is hard to call them out of it. They tend to stay in the woodline. And dont want to come out where you can get a good shot. So alot of peaple go in the woods. And try and shoot them with shot guns!

@theonlyrealcbass16 First of all, let me say I am not trying to criticize your weapon of choice, but point out just that: it is a weapon OF CHOICE. But, I do really like your ar, I just prefer bolt actions for serious hunts. I like the 90 grain fmj's for coyotes because they do the least damage and they are SUPER flat, where as a 130grain polymer tip would shred up a coyote, the 90 grain hollow points are good too. I prefer a traditional bolt action over an AR for hunting though because...

I think the biggest problem people will have with this video is your equipment. The thing they have to realize is if they had the cash to throw down for your wares, they would too. I personally use a Remington 700AAC. It still has the shitty Hogue stock, and I haven't been able to wrangle the funds for a can. I'd say ignore the negative comments. It is jealousy. Cheers. Also, may want to look into a cheap wire mic for your camera. Will help fight that wind issue when you are trying to speak.

word of advice the maker of this video: don't bother responding to some of the dickheads with a youtube account. they're trolls, and jelous of your gear and skill. keep posting vids like these, and ignore the haters.
