By far the best division in the sport… you could tell me any of the 4 teams won the division and I would go “Ohh okay I could see it, that’s not unrealistic”
@SkyJW15
@SkyJW15 Год назад
It definitely has the potential to be. The biggest question for every team in the division other than the Bengals is the QB play. Watson needs to show last year was an abberation, Pickett needs to show he can be the franchise guy in Pittsburgh, and Lamar just needs to stay healthy. Not saying Lamar is some injury plagued QB who's unreliable, but in a division as competitive as the AFC North, the Ravens need him to play more than the 12 games per season he played the last two years. Definitely guaranteed that there's some degree of mayhem in the AFC North this year.
@loganerb3952
@loganerb3952 Год назад
@@SkyJW15 see the thing is even without those guys playing well every team is talented and well coached enough that they will be at worst around a .500 team… yea the QB is the most important position but all these teams have proven to be atleast middle of the pack with questionable QB play (even the browns when you take into consideration Brisset/Watson last year and baker with a bum shoulder the year before) it’s been the toughest division for about 2-3 years now so I assume the trend will continue You’re right tho there’s always mayhem in the north!!

I agree the AFC North is the most physical division in all of the NFL. Teams within that division must be a complete team to win that division. You must be able to stop the run,while also being able to put pressure on the opposing QB. You must be able to cover the deep ball,because there is good QB play within the division. On the offensive side you must be able to run the ball,weather plays a big part in this division late in the year. You must have a QB that can throw the ball down the field and stretch the defense as well. Teams within that division must have elite WR’s to be able to win games late down the stretch. If you can win the AFC North Division,you have a team that can win the Super Bowl. That’s how good this division is from top to bottom. I think Orlando Brown Jr was the best FA signing in this division. It makes the Bengals O line even better than what they was last year. We saw how good the Bengals O line was the second half of the season. They played like a top 10 offensive line down the stretch,it started to click once they gelled after the bye week. I actually thought the Bengals would make the Super Bowl again last season until the injuries on the O line piled up late in the season. They lost both starting tackles in Jonah Williams and La’ell Collins. Then they lost their best guard in Alex Cappa. Losing those key players on the O line cost them another Super Bowl appearance. Now that they signed Orlando Brown and have quality depth on the O line,I think the Bengals are primed to make another Super Bowl run this year.

You guys are sleeping on the Ravens Bengals matchups. In the Wild Card round, the Ravens were enforcers, and played a brand of football the Bengals could not match.(With Lamar out). After the game Bengals players were mad about it and even complained about dirty play to the media. In game you saw Chase, Higgins, and Mixon shrink. They were not about that life. Out-gained and outplayed by 121 yards vs the Tyler Huntley, Demarcus Robinson led passing attack. Macdonald schemes up Burrow very well in all 3 matchups: Only 641 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 INT, with a YPA of just 5.9. 8 sacks, 1 fumble lost Allowing just 17, 20, and 17 points (excluding 2 defensive TDs allowed by Brown/Huntley) For some reason Burrow is forced into the quick passing game, and never takes risks downfield. Chase will catch 8 quick passes for 80 yards, and the others are barely involved. You expect drastic improvement in the Ravens offense, yet they were only 1 play away from being 2-1, with Lamar out for 2 of the 3 matchups. While in other loss the Ravens starters sat out and Cincy was a full go. If Lamar is healthy the 2023 Ravens take back the North.

Love the podcast, love this series but I hate to disagree but the Ravens draft will prove to be the best in the division. Look back at every EDC pick and not only will you find plenty of quality players but not all of them were flashy but they all worked out. And to end with some of the potential that they did with as few of picks they had is the definition of maximizing your picks IMO. I just hope you look back in March and again in 2 years and revisit your opinion of a weak draft.
@julianwahly3372
@julianwahly3372 Год назад
You all just keep sleeping on pickett. Burrow was the only one rated higher than pickett for big time throws in the 2nd half of the season, and it wasnt by much. He wont have the huge numbers because he will probably only throw it around 450 to 500 times not 600 or 700 like these other guys. If his yards per attempt are at 7 then that puts him at 3500 or 3600 yards. Looking at just numers is BS. Steelers want to run the ball. Pickett has already shown he can make throws when he has too as evidenced in the raiders and ravens games in back to back weeks with the playoffs still in sight. Keep sleeping on pickett.

Even you could not predict what happened today. 3 Teams in post Season and all 4 … ALL 4 of them above .500. I am curious how the powerranking will look like, but this must show up in the numbers. Steelers was a thin line, but who had thought, Mason would save it? Flaco? Really? Ravens No. 1 this dominant and Lamar throws?!?! So Tomlin 17 … seventeen!!! … seasons non loosing record, looking „normal“? This is not normal!!! This Division lived up to and above all predictions. Sportsman congratulations to all of the teams, even being Steelers Fan, I tip on my hat to all 3 competitors, this season was special and to make it this, you have to have these great organizations within. One year doesn’t dictate the next but the Ravens held a lead with under 2min in the 4th quarter in 14 of 17 games played last year. Despite dealing with injuries and backup QB play, the Ravens were literally 1 play away in each game from being a 14-15 win team in 2022. I think everyone would agree that the Ravens improved their roster from last season, if for no other reason than improved health. If they can indeed stay healthy this year it could be scary hours for everyone outside of Baltimore 😈😈😈

I could legitimately say the same thing about the Steelers. They were a play away from beating the jets, pats, phins, ravens, and browns and going 14-3. It doesn't matter though because that's not what happene and I recognize where they were also a play away from losing in many games just like the ravens were
@ravensfan2380
@ravensfan2380 Год назад
@@fyukfy2366 I understand what you are saying but it’s not the same. For example in the loss vs the Ravens, the Steelers trailed by 2 possessions with about 3 minutes left to play. After scoring a quick TD with about 2:30 remaining in the game the Ravens got the ball & just ran the clock out. In this example, multiple things would have needed to happen logically for the Steelers to win. 1. Defense gets a stop 2. Offense get into FG range 3. Make the FG. That’s not “a play away” imo. Now you guys made some mistakes throughout the game where you can say that play may or may not have shifted the balance, however I’m talking about literally being a play away. Meaning if the Ravens pick up a 1st down game over. If the defense made a stop on 4th down, game over because they were winning with less than 2:00 and the other team had no shot of winning. The Ravens just needed to finish. Also completely agree, it doesn’t matter, just a interesting storyline from last season.

Not a big jonah guy but he's better than people give him credit for and last year he dislocated both his knees and played threw it and before last year he was better than that. Lc probably won't be ready to start the season coming off a acl. Jackson Carmen is another interesting dimension to this as well. Carmen played admirable at lt last year in the playoffs and he looks in really good shape for the first time in his career. I don't know if I could see them not starting jonah at 12.6 mil guaranteed this year, my gut tells me they would trade him before they would do that but if they keep lc and jonah its kinda Goin all in on the line. One thing lc is heavily incentived to play games because he only gets payed if he plays mostly. It's the way his contract is constructed so in theory they could keep both but it would be kinda pricey. Just my thoughts and info. Great info for u guys as well.

@ravensfan2380
@ravensfan2380 Год назад
The last 2 years in the North saw the Ravens, Steelers and Browns play with a ton of injuries and uncertainty at the QB position, while the Bengals were basically the picture of good health and stability. Despite this fact, the Bengals struggled to win the North each year. Now that Ravens, Browns and Steelers seem completely healthy and stable at the QB position it’ll be interesting to see just how well the Bengals stack up in this division.
@michaelhession2105
@michaelhession2105 Год назад
The first year they definitely got lucky, especially with the Ravens' injury situation, and the Steelers trotting out 39-year-old Big Ben. (Plus the Browns being the Browns) Last year, they did survive the NFL's toughest schedule while being short-handed for much of the 2nd Half I'll give them that. This time the Bungles are attempting to do what no AFC North team has ever done. Win 3 straight division titles. Not even the Steelers or Ravens could accomplish that feat. And I bet you those two will be out for blood.
@ravensfan2380
@ravensfan2380 Год назад
@@michaelhession2105 you and I have very different definitions of ‘tough’ and ‘short handed’. They started 2-3 after 5 games. 8 of their final 12 games were against teams with a losing records. The 4 games vs winning teams were Ten(lost 7 straight to end the season), KC(legit), Buf(game cancelled 1st quarter) and Bal(3rd string QB and resting starters). So they only played 1 legit team on 12 games. What’s tough about that? As for short-handed, they didn’t have a single starter miss a game vs a winning team over their final 8 games. I’m not taking anything away from the Bengals but they’ve been very fortunate but to their credit they’ve made the most of it.
@nudle7377
@nudle7377 Год назад
@@ravensfan2380the Bengals had games without their WR1, WR2, WR3, RB1, TE1, TE2 missed the whole season, 3 linemen got injured, their best edge rusher broke his wrist and missed some time, edge 2 missed a few games, CB1 was out for over half of the season, CB2 missed half the season, their NT (top 3 in the league) missed like 5 games, so over half of their starters missed a significant amount of time and you say they weren’t short handed? They would’ve won 13 games if the Bills game didn’t get canceled and you say they struggled to win the division? If they win 13 games, another team has to win 14 games to win the division which is going to be tough for any of the teams in the division to do. I get you’re a Ravens fan and you’re biased but at least try to be objective when you’re trying to debate something like this.

I think this time around, just like the 2009 Steelers, the 2013 Ravens, the 2018 Steelers, and the 2020 Ravens, Cincy will learn the hard way that there is no such thing as a 3 peat champion in the AFC North. Not hard to keep up when other teams can't get going. Nearly half their games last year the defense held teams under 20 points. That unit has been improved over the off-season. I was the kid who wanted Michigan state or Penn State in the big 10 just to be an asshole to all the OSU and Michigan fans. That university of Toledo win over Michigan was one of the really important sports moments in my life. I liked the browns the least because they were so goddamn boring. At least the lions would suck in entertaining ways. So when people wanted art model dead and then were legitimately happy when he died 15 years later it wasn't the best look. Just like the Packers and cowboys Ohio is full of Steelers fans. And they are far too often an aggressive bad natured bunch. I loved the way the Bengals and ravens ran their organizations. I understand that the ravens team was originally the browns but the new coach (forget his name but was later announcer) really made it work. I love how those organizations give their GM and head coach plenty of time to implement their philosophy. I love owners being level headed. The AFC north is just the most equal division at the moment
