You should add another line about hair thickness/straight or not because even if a haircut looks pretty on someone, it doesn't mean it's possible to do the exact same because of hair texture

Great point. I keep thinking about that. I could have the same face shape and similar features and their placement being similar but different hair texture and density and such i could Ave the same hairstyle as them but mine will look heavier let's sat and larger despite being the same size. Colour of the hair could also affect it.

Speaking as a someone with a soft square shaped face and naturally curly hair. Would totally recommend women with square faces to have some wavy/curly texture in the hair. Whenever I straighten my hair, I look like a box. Asymmetrical bobs look good, so do layers.

Lens distortion, plus some people don't know how to take a selfie. I see many people gluing their phone camera to their face when taking a photo...the distortion increases the closer your face is. You need space between your phone and face.

If you take a picture keep the camera far away and crop in you'd look closer to what you like in the mirror. Decreased perspective distortion! (A better word for Lens Distortion)

In a Zoom meeting in gallery view it’s quite easy to identify face shapes, including your own. I think seeing many faces at the same time for comparison helps. Looking at just one face is harder.
@proximacentauri9764
@proximacentauri9764 3 года назад
It’s normal. The mirror reflects exactly what other people would see - just flipped. The camera sees through a lens that is a little distorting, and makes forehead, nose and chin bigger. Plus, even the best camera is not as good as an eye, and will see the shadows darker than they really are, so in pictures you may see pimples, wrinkles or ugly shadows that are not so visible in real life.

THANK YOU for taking into consideration Black hairstyles. I've searched high and low for resources that accommodate natural hairstyles. Many popular sites tend to exclude us or give very basic answers. I suggest you add another "part" (pun not intented) about hair parting. Center/middle parting, off center parting, side parting, etc. These make a BIG difference in how your hair falls around your face and especially your forehead. They also can play up or play down asymmetry in your face, and they can also shorten or lengthen the appearance of your face.

@@mariannek6735hey I agree with this person! But I’ve only personally observed one example, that I can think of. I think (for women at least) larger, rounded eyes are often less suited for straight across bangs, if the woman is going for a more mature look. I love straight across bangs, but I think they look best on a woman like Rihanna, who has long, upturned eyes, as opposed to someone like Emma Stone. I’ve never seen Emma with such a hairstyle, but I imagine she would look about 12 years old lol! I’m sure their face shapes and other features are also factors though.

I prefer style systems like Kibbe that focus on creating harmony of outfits, accessories and hairstyles with the body rather than this idea of correcting your shape so everyone fits into the same cookie mold. There is no one ideal of beauty and it is best to work with what you have and focus on your strengths and uniqueness.
@shirin9452
@shirin9452 2 года назад
I think it’s possible to use this advice with Kibbe though right? For instance as a TR, my recs are highly stylized and glamorous hair with volume and curl. But as a diamond shape, maybe I should add emphasis for my cheekbones to that rec, curved bangs for my forehead or something like that
@Angie-lp2hk
@Angie-lp2hk 2 года назад
i agree. I realized that the goal in these videos is to often eliminate/hide certain facial features that we have using these haircuts and while i do understand that some people would rather hide certain flaws, i wish we'd be more appreciative of our natural face shapes by exploring haircuts that would _compliment_ what's already there.
@stealthis
@stealthis 2 года назад
@@Angie-lp2hk I think people only have to lean into these rules the more their face greatly exhibits a "flaw". For example, it's possible to have a slightly rounded or slightly oblong face, and since it is only slight, you can get away with fudging the rules. However, if your face is really dominantly found or oblong, you might be better served by more strictly adhering to the guidelines. Sarah Jessica Parker is routinely brought up as an oblong face because it's one of her dominant characteristics. She can do whatever she wants but most people like to balance their face out a little bit if given the choice.

Great video! I would suggest adding a feature which will ask the participant to select which facial features she/he want to highlight/'hide'. We should encourage diversity and embrace our own beauty, not push everyone to the beauty standard of oblong. For example: the participant has a squared face, but likes the hard edges. With this current adaptation you would indirectly tell the person this is not desired, instead of weighing personal preferences.

I would love to see something like this that goes into more detail about what length and style of bangs would be best. I notice a significant difference in my facial appearance when my bangs are above the eyebrow vs. when they're at eye level. Thickness of bangs can change how a face looks, too; it's currently a trend in East Asia to have thin straight bangs, because they have the youthful impression of blunt bangs without the effect of covering the forehead completely and making the face appear shorter.

Wait, You said that Oval face shouldn't try to add Height to their head? But I thought I had oval face shape because of longer face and cheekbones being the widest part on my face. Jawline is a bit narrower than cheekbones and temples are the narrowest. I don't have strong jaw, but it's not rounded either. When I don't add Height to my face, it looks like my hair was cut too short, and can't cut my hair too tight on the sides either, makes my hair look like a mop. I'm confused now, what face shape do I have?

Can you please make an analyzation on inverted picture? Why most people feel uncomfortable seeing their faces when it's inverted? Because lately I've seen TikToks about inverted filter and I saw people feeling ugly or uncomfortable seeing their selves in inverted way.

Me: watching a video about the best hairstyles for one's face shape. Also me: literally went Edwardian a year ago and doesn't plan to go back from it. I have a heart/diamond face shape, with soft features, so pulling Edwardian hairstyles fit very much into highly feminine features. However, I can also push for a more androgynous look thanks to my athletic build, so yeah. I can really go charmingly old school or casual androgynous. Now I need to get back to working with photographers, since the on-going Plague is abatting in my country 😂

In honor of the Shadow and Bone Netflix series that came out, would you all analyze the main actors from that? Names that come to mind are Ben Barnes, with his youthful face, Jessie Mei Li, with her Eurasian features, and Freddy Carter, with his polarizing (and easily typecast) look.

I really don't know what my face shape is. It's sorta similar to the heart, but with much wider cheeks especially when I smile. I also have very youthful features (big eyes, big cheeks, soft features, tall(ish) forehead). I've always hated the way my face is shaped, I think I look cartoonish. But anyway, I have found that I think sideswept bangs, medium to long layered hair, and making sure I have volume is the best cut for that kind of face. The volume offsets the giant lower facial features, the layers frame the face nicely, and the bangs cover my forehead enough to make it less obvious that the sides of my forehead are not as wide as my cheeks. The absolute worst thing I can do to my face seems to be letting my hair grow out so long that the layers disappear and the hair gets heavy and loses volume. This of course also means the bangs are no longer bangs. Pulling my hair all the way out of my face also seems to be a bad move for me. Sorry for the long comment, I don't think anyone's gonna read it anyway but basically I'm just trying to make sense of my weird face shape and maybe help someone who also looks like how I described lol. I'm no hair scientist so maybe I'm wrong but I feel like that's that hair that would look best on this outlier kind of face shape.

Reese seems like she has a diamond shaped face, not heart, because of her jawline. Ans Scarlett has a heart shaped face; her forhead is smaller than her cheek bones, she has a widow's peak, and with her chin that all makes a perfect heart.
