Predicting the International Booker Prize Longlist 

Great selection. I have only read a couple. Couldn't resist a book from Burkina Faso of course and it's a good one.

I want to see _Strega_ (Lykke Holm/Vogel) on the longlist: quiet, mysterious, gothic, painterly. I also struggle with sourcing translated works, so I live vicariously through others for the Booker International experience. I’m looking forward to Kang’s book too! ⭐️

So excited about the Max Lobe book. Got it coming my way 😊

Yours is the first prediction video I have seen. Thank you for going early, and for highlighting books that if they take our fancy we can potentially aquire/place library holds/read before the longlist announcement. It has enabled us to join in the prediction fun with you. Not read any on your list, but am tempted by All Our Children Scattered which comes out in the UK later this month.

So many tempting titles! I am a cherry picker, so will wait for reviews and recommendations to come in.

the international booker is always a prize that only nominates fascinating things...absolutely cannot wait for the longlist! most of your predictions sound sooo good!!!!!!! i am ashamed of not having read my share of night yet being a spanish speaker but he's chucky the queen's of sacramento park and its author in general are a big thing in spanish speaking countries at the moment, everyone has been raving a lot about that book since it came out so i wouldn't be surprised to see it

Love the "shock" for Han Kang. BookTubers with special effects, so great. Also love the list. So many books to look out for. I never paid too much attention to this prize before I read translated fiction for the BookTube prize, now I am so intriguided by so many of these books. Thanks for the flags, it makes it so easy to see the countries these books originated.

I have seen our share of night everywhere and also that everyone is loving it so that is a solid prediction! I want to read something of hers but will probably start with the shorter dangers of smoking in bed. Wouldn't be surprised if han kang greek lessons is on there. Ooh tan twan eng is judging!! Good to see. Punishment sounds interesting... and like my kind of read - crime and punishment style and concepts. Wouldn't be surprised if a tilted axis or europa editions title turns up on the list. The lost spell is giving me metamorphosis vibes and thats all I need to be interested!!

I am so hyped about prize season this year! Of course I will almost inevitably read none of the books 😃youve at least put a bunch on my radar I didn't know of before, to probably not pick up in a timely fashion.

These all sound really good. I sometimes pick up a few of the international books later on so hopefully I will get round to a few of these soon. Either ways it’s always great to hear about some new stories and add them to my Wishlist so thank youhooo!! 😊

A lot of these do sound great! I have a copy of Our Share Of Night that is my next read. Its huge but I want to get it read before the Woman’s Prize list comes out. Now you have me looking forward to both lists.

Great video! I can’t even pretend like I’ve read, let alone heard of the majority of these books. Just means that I need to do a better job of being aware of international publications. Looking forward to seeing how your predictions turn out.

Incredible selection! I already read Our share our night and it wasn't my cup of tea, but undeniable it's a great book. I'd like to read the shortlist of both bookers and the women's prize.

This is one of my favorite prizes because I always discover a new to me author. Our Share of Night was incredible. I live in the US, but I pre-ordered it from Blackwell's, so I got it in October. This book is living and breathing inside me. Truly magnificent. I've never heard of Max Lobe, so I intend to look him up.

Hope to read as many of the longlist as possible. Greek Lessons is available here (in Greece) already (in Greek) but I usually read translated books in English so I'll probably just be patient. Thanks for putting all these books on my radar Scott!!

Also the Stella longlist on 2 March. Too hectic! My priority will be the Womens Prize but after that, we'll see how it goes and what is available here. Oh and judging a Booktube round !!!

The international booker is my favorite of the prizes, I’m not a “read the whole long/shortlist” person, but I use it to get recommendations. Some of my favorites of the last year were from this prize (Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung comes to mind), and since I’m in the US there is often a big delay in the books becoming available, so I get a lot of anticipation. (Last year’s winner Tomb of Sand was just published last week and I have been holding myself back from running to the bookstore…. I know I will love it but don’t want to buy a 600-page hardback)

This prize still doesn't seem to garner as much gravitas as it deserves. I have never read any entire Booker shortlist but I would say there's a high chance some of the International shortlists are superior to the Bookers. I mean, were any of the eng Bookers really 5 star reads this year? I didn't think so

Your list is interesting. 🤔 Too many short books. There will be at leat two “normal” length books (i.e. 300 to 450 pages). “Nonfiction novel” is a word combination I hope will never become popular. I am tired of writers who are too lazy to create fictional stories and characters or too lazy to do real research for a nonfiction book. It’s the worst of both genres. 😔

I have so many thoughts about the International Booker! Yeeeeeeeeessss! Move the prize dates back a month. Please! I haven’t even heard of any of your choices. 🫣
