Double lung transplant here. As of today my transplant happened 1 week short of 6 weeks ago. I left the hospital at 137 lbs. I literally had no fat or muscle left. Today I am 175lbs. But....gaining. I am going to make a serious effort to watch what I eat and how much I eat. Prednisone will be part of my life forever. (I'm not happy about that either). I think I am experiencing virtually every bad side effect you can get taking it. I feel like I'm in a fog almost all the time. Although I am working out to rebuild my muscles and have succeeded for the most part, my thigh muscles just don't want to work. Making it hard for me to get up from a sitting position to standing. I am retaining water in my legs and feet and my right calf is completely numb. I also experience light-headedness and dizziness on occasion. I had a minor A1 rejection at about 3 months and they upped my prednisone to 25 Mg's twice a day. That really messed me up. It did stop the rejection but, I became a madman with my moods and my wife wanted to shoot me...😜 I also experienced craziness in my eyes. I wear glasses and would get so fuzzy I couldn't see. I'd take off my glasses and see 20/20. Then they would get fuzzy again and I'd have to put my glasses back on.They have since backed me down to 10 Mg's twice a day but I'm hoping to go even lower in dose. I could go on for a long time explaining all the things that prednisone is doing to me...but it's made me so tired I need to get to bed...lol I take about 20 pills every morning and 17 every night..That will be for the rest of my life. I'm sure something else I'm taking is contributing to this discomfort as well. It's better than being dead...But, it's not fun feeling this way all the time. I've been told that when you can get to 5MG or less per day, most of the bad side effects go away. I hope to find out soon on that.... I wish you continued health and happiness...Your video was uplifting and makes me hopeful. 👍

Hello, I know it’s been 2 years. But I wanted to know how you’re doing. I had a kidney transplant, and so far I’m doing good. I do have some of the bad things that comes with the kidney transplant, but my nephrologist and my team are working on it. Anyways I’m sorry about all the pain and discomfort feelings you are going through. I pray to God that you will get better, and get some relief from all of this. Take care and Godbless..🙏

@@sf49erswarriorsgiantsgumba99 I'm glad your transplant is going well. Today, I am a shade over 2 1/2 years post transplant. It has been an up and down journey to be sure. Finally, after year one, I started feeling fairly normal again, then my left hip started going out.. And fast. I was told prednisone has a tendency to cause hip bones to basically fall apart. For 2 months waiting to get a hip replacement, and since I could barely walk, I lost most of the muscles I spent the previous year building up sitting on my keister. The hip replacement went well, and I have exercised like crazy to get walking again. I succeeded. Feeling great now.. However I have an appointment in 2 weeks to get the right hip looked at now. I feel pain there and have a feeling that one is going now. I feel like I'm being punished. If I was 22 years old, this would be nothing. But at (almost) 68? I will persevere, and recover but come on... The good news is, my lungs are performing perfectly. I thank God on a regular basis for keeping me alive even through all this other stuff. I think the key to surviving any transplant is staying mobile. Even if it's only walking regularly. I do 1-2 miles every day the weather is good. It's good for me and my elderly dog. Oh, and it took maybe a little over a year for my doctors to finally get my medication cocktail right, but it seems right now. Take care of those new kidneys!!

I will soon be 68 and have always been a slim person and have been on Prednisone for 6 1/2 years post kidney transplant. Before my transplant, I weighed around 155 lbs and my belly was < 38 inches. Today, because of this drug, I now weigh >180 lbs and a circumference of between 44 and 45 inches around my belly. I really do wish I could get off this drug. Losing weight is most difficult.

How does it make you feel when you are on the drug ? Or what similarity’s does it have to a diff drug ? My doctor prescribed me them because of surgery but I am afraid to take it but I’m in really bad pain

Kidney transplant recipient here. I advise anyone taking prednisone to take it in the morning (if possible). Your insomnia will get better!

Hi. I’m also a kidney transplant recipient. Hi. Did your moon face went down with lower dosages? I started with 30 mg a day and now I’m on 5gm a day and wondering if this low dosage will get rid of my moon face

I was prescribed prednisone due to a sinus infection and strep throat. I’ve had some changes like diarrhea, my heart flutters and beat fast, my I appetite has increased and my sleep pattern wasn’t the greatest and it has gotten worse. Also I’m always exhausted, thank God I finished the prescription.

I recommend a ton of yogurt cultures skip the crappy Activia Yoplait garbage get Nancy's Kefir if you get in your area if not look for a variety of active cultures and dive in if your experiencing diarrhea following taking pred and all antibiotics immediately afterward it worked for me hope it does for you as well

Well is insomnia a bad thing or a good thing. I guess it's all about perspective. I take dexamethasone (4mg a day) and it fights my fatigue like nothing in this world. It keeps me up and energized longer I can stay up until 12 pm and get up and still feel good and not extremely exhausted as with the fatigue. So, in my case, it's a blessing. Unless of course it's kicking your butt and you feel drained, exhausted or not very refreshed. Yeah that's a prob. But it has not done that in my case. Been taking it for about a month now. Doc did switch me over to prednisone. I hope to god it fights my fatigue the same. I'm dead without it! Good video and thanks for sharing! I have one question that I can't seem to get a solid answer. I believe you have to take it for the rest of your life for the kidney transplant. I was told that steroids will damage the liver and kidney and therefore I can not take it long term. Is this true or B.S.. I have an autoimmune disease and I know of people who have to take prednisone for life. But they seem okay. So I am a little confused. Anyone have a straight answer? I know dosage and long term use plays some role in the outcome. But if I were on a low dose long term. Consequences? Safe? Things to combat the risk? Thanks!

I HHHAAATTTEEE this script!!! I don't want to spend the rest of my life worrying about my bones breaking while I'm trying to live out the rest of the barrowed time I have left. I'm a year and a half post kidney transplant and I made it here without becoming diabetic. I was on the machine for 16 and a half years. After transplant, I don't like the mood swings that I mostly keep to myself and the constant hunger. How can we curb that?! Now I'm also dealing with my foot being broken and taking forever to heal.

Be careful because prednisone is not good. I have history of pan colitis and i was on prednisone long term 2005-2018. I now deal with lots of hip back pain, leg pain. Also bruising of skin and i can barely walk sometimes. Doctor's won't tell you. It doesn't matter how much you take. Avascular necrosis Hip joint pain Arthritis spine Nervous system Psoriasis severe Weigh gain Adrenal insufficiency Hair loss Face burn Moon face

You get a puffy round face. It sucks. Lol. Luckily I’m off it now post kidney transplant. About 60% of transplant centers no longer require prednisone after a couple months.

@@redplanet76is that true? What about rejection?
@redplanet76
@redplanet76 8 месяцев назад
@@sf49erswarriorsgiantsgumba99 Tacrolimus and mycophenolate are good enough in most cases to reduce acute and chronic kidney rejection to zero. It’s just not needed anymore. Some patients might have a rejection episode and they will pump them full of steroids but that isn’t the norm. There are too many downside risks to long term prednisone use that outweigh any upside benefit (generally speaking). There are certainly situations where it’s needed to maintain grafts.
