It's pretty cool to see the piece visually represented this way. Especially how the right and left hand are intertwined together in the opening chord section. A very peculiar notation choice by Rachmaninoff.
@Melviora

i don't think it's strange, if you play the chords you untwine the chords it creates a different sound.
@FreakieFan
@FreakieFan 6 лет назад
Is that the way it should be? I thought it was a mistake by the person who made the video. Why would you intertwine your hands like that? That makes no sense. (To me)
@ryana97
@ryana97 6 лет назад
You will notice that in both hands you will be playing octaves with finger 1 and 5. I only started to learn this piece today and have found it much easier to move between chords as it keeps the general hand shape fairly similar between chords. Hope that makes some sense...

Yes, it is inaccurate in many ways like volume, voicing, speeds at different parts, etc., but there are always different ways to play and different musicians interpretations, and this is overall the best Synthesia arrangement for this gorgeous piece I've seen ^^ I'm learning from the accurate sheet music, don't worry~
@CmRoddy
@CmRoddy 6 лет назад
This version is a fantastic tutorial on how not to play the song in terms of musicality. Most of Rachmaninoff's music, especially this piece, is very much open to interpretation as even Rachmaninoff himself was known to make small improvisations and changes while performing his own work. This particular video is very helpful in visually seeing the piece in a different way, but it shows that if it's played with perfect timing, tempo, force/strength, then the piece sounds extremely robotic and without soul (yes, I know that this is a computer generated version so it is technically "robotic," by nature). This comment is a compliment of Rachmaninoff's works as a whole rather than a complaint about the video. :)

Moniqi miller from uk not sure how you can possibly assume that i have small hands from my comment. i can play this piece. i simply said that no one asked you. no one cares that you’re a girl and you can play this. are you implying that girls are somehow disadvantaged? because despite having smaller hands than men on average ive seen many girls be able to play pieces like this with broken chords. just because you are a girl with man-hands doesnt make you special.
