The original Prelude sound card was created by Thomas Wenzel and then produced and sold by
Albrecht Computer Technik in the 90s. Recently, the card was recreated by alf24de in coordination with Thomas.
I try out a half length version of that card by AmigaDigital and test it out on playing MP3s.

Fantastic video!!! Lots of useful tips and info there! That crackling on the mic at the back end of the video, could be a partical of dust in the mic- notice how it stopped doing it just towards the end, it probably fell out or moved.

Yes, I'm sure you're right. Gutting to have recorded that segment and only found out in editing about the crackle!

@@wrangleramiga896 It isn't a big deal ;)

A hardware company would use a pick and place machine to place the components on the board before soldering in a solder bath, so it'd be cheaper.

I really wish there was an "MpegIt" for retro PC's!! I've long searched for a PC sound card that can decode MP3's purely in hardware, thereby allowing me to play my MP3's while also playing games in Windows 98 without any performance loss. I've found a few pictures of something called the "TruSound Decoder" which claims to have been a PCI card for doing just that - but I've never seen one come up for sale anywhere. Even the pictures were hard to find! I'd go nuts for an MP3 decoder add-on that could attach to a SoundBlaster's Wave Table header... or just a separate card, whatever.

Another great video. I always enjoy your segments. I have been debating picking up prelude cards myself.

@Wrangler the sound volume is too low, i have to crank up my TV from 8 (normal) to 14! also, the video states like 50FPS, but it looks like 25 or something? otherwise, well done! where do i get on of those cards?

It was a shame Paula was not upgraded. It was always a NMOS chip and never made it to CMOS. One of Commodore's greatest mistakes was not keeping MOS relevant after it purchased the company. This really hurt when it came to the era of AGA/AAA and they had to outsource CMOS production to companies like HP, VLSI etc. It must have been too expensive to include Paula in the migration to CMOS.

Yes, good point. By the time Commodore got to releasing AGA it was already significantly cut-down as the company was failing. I guess Paula development would have been axed long before that.

Hello. We found your videos so rewarding, and were wondering if any prototype services may help? Such as custom PCBs, 3DP, CNC etc. If so, would love to supply freely and reach any YT collab together! (PCBWay luz)
