Bike Mechanic Paul goes through his latest upgrade for his Brompton including fitting and a review after his first week of testing it.
Details:
The rainbow titanium seat post is made by ‪@Tipartsworkshop‬ and we purchased it through SJS Cycles in the UK.
Pauls Brompton is the P6R ‪@bromptonbicycle‬
Digital Scales and most tools in this video are from ‪@parktool‬
As mentioned in the video, Paul has been obsessed with getting this seatpost since seeing ‪@PathLessPedaledTV‬ doing a video with ‪@CleverCyclesPortland‬ about it. Check out their channels if you don't know them already.

We actually met a fellow Japanese Brompton cyclist on our tour in Korea! He had the exact same seatpost plus the diet kit. And two days later, we only met his companions again , but he wasn't with them anymore because the seatpost broke while he was going uphill. To be fair: he was a bit more on the heavier side 😂 Hope you'll have more luck, but be careful!

@@thebrommuters6220 thanks for watching . Interesting 🤨 Maybe he was over the weight limit for it (usually around 100kg for titanium seat posts). 😬

Apart from the weight loss, the gain in comfort and the beautiful rainbow you’re riding on now, there is a further side effect that should be mentioned. The titanium seat post will slip less than a chromium plated one. So the seat post sleeve replacement has to be done less often. A nice benefit that equalizes the high costs in the long run. 😊 Nice video Paul. Thank you very much.

As a Dane, I found my by then, Top Model, 2019 Superlight in an ordinary bike/Brompton Shop in Cph. A Dealer I connected before that, claimed that Brompton - hardly cared to answer questions about bikes!! I saw what they had ready as finished bikes and found my Flame Painted, "black version" as my choice, so even though much less of my original bike is - still in place, my now Titanium seat post is black! And it didn't in any way felt flimsy or thin, so I trust it completely! With near all loose parts on my bike changed to carbon and titanium it now weighs below 9 kilo, and still with my mudguards, as a "Rainy Dane"! I have changed the clamps holding the original titanium stays to carbon, from the original "Heavy Metal versions! Finn. Denmark

At a time I saw that well known, Brilliant Bikes had got returned an Original Brompton Titanium seat post, which had broken after some years! I'm sure that a Ti-parts seat post is most likely a little more finely made and weighs a little less, but I hardly care as my bike is now around the weight of an original T-line, with mudguards! And more gears, except for the new 12 gear version! Finn. Denmark

@@veloworks9266 I have bought near all my extra parts from China and Taiwan, as they are the main suppliers of better and lighter parts for a Brompton! And it is less complicated than buying from the UK, after Brexit! I admit that "those who follows in the footsteps, will never come first", but they are able to see when things could have been made better! And they have made an Industry of making Protective Parts for the frame, as Brompton hardly cares! As a first I gave my new bike an Auto Polish and forund that the one "protective tape" had been near worn through to the paint, after two or three folds! So I ordered a "set" for my bike! Finn. Denmark

@@veloworks9266 Even the axle in front on mine is now titanium, as all discs, nuts, bolts and security parts on my bike. You are able to get a bong for the bottom of the seat post, without the bolt, and weighing less, by that (They don't fall out!). My saddle is a slightly padded Selle Italia from carbon, as my seat clamp is an AceOffix, and turned round below the sadle for a longer reach from a Standard Length, black titanium seat post, pulled fully out. I have a B&W hardbox for transport and hope not to need to take off my saddle to be put inside! For a folding bike this is an insult! My Crank is from titanium with ceramic balls, as in the front by the fork. Also an alu wedge and titanium bolt to fix it and keep it in place. I have latest found a lightweight hook with a hole for my mudguard stay, from titanium. I changed it when changing the clamps on my mudguards to carbon from the original, from "Heavy Metal". Sadly the two holders are fixed and need to be drilled out to be replaced, so I left those two for now. Finn. Denmark

I wasn't sure about the colour when you first showed the seat post, but I must admit it looks great on your bike. I am also envious of that flex but doubt it would do much for my ride because I have so little exposed post. The penalty of being both vertically challenged and short in the leg.

I have the silver matte finish TiParts on my Brompton and yes it is more comfortable. Only thing I have noticed is it the matte/slightly rough finish seemed to wear the plastic insert out faster and I just got that replaced, maybe I just didn't have the clamp tight enough so it was sliding?. Anyway would recommend the TiParts post if it fits your budget.

I love the rainbow color of the seat post, though not quite as beautiful as the color of your rosy cheeks. I'm sure Sarah would agree. Just sayin'. ♥ Paul, I have a question. Let's say I were to get the 4-speed T-Line and only wanted to have a single tooth chainring. What size chainring would I need to ride comfortably, with a casual cadence, at 32 kph (20 mph) in fourth gear? Thank you. Stay awesome.
