My instinct was to poo poo this, but then I realized it was the same with Adderall; yeah it might have amped me up at first, but at some point it leveled out and it was just the new normal.

Yep, it's like caffeine in coffee, once you take it regularly you're no longer getting the buzz that keeps you awake, you're just taking it to remain normal instead of dropping below now. Regular painkillers won't get you high as a kite, they'll just keep you going at the same level as everyone else now and take your pain away.

I too am a functional addict on pills. All it does now is put you on a level. You get the bare minimum of uphoria that last maybe an hour then the remainder is just a case of being able to get you through the day and get your work done. The usual people that assume we are mentally messed up and high like you say have never experienced what we have for the amount of time we have so they are both not qualified to comment on it due to the fact they cannot relate and also because they assumed the worst in you and can't fathom the idea you can take medication at such high volume and not feel anything other than high uphoria and mashed up mind and logic. Its difficult to explain it to anyone who's never been in our shoes

You would be surprised. Heard of a nurse once that saw a patient trembling and getting slightly blue and she covered him because the poor soul was feeling cold and needed warmth. 10 mins later someone else goes into the room and calls a code. Patient was dead. What the nurse thought was shivering due to cold was likely a seizure. Never underestimate stupidity.

THis guy lost most faith in doctors around age 40 or so after about a dozen bad calls on lower back issues. I ended up using inversion which gave me my life back. Western medicine would have preferred I end up a drug addicted opoid user.

@jaim haas There's no such thing as Western/Eastern Medicine, it's just medicine. The same medicine that is practiced in the "New World" is practiced in the Far East. It's all a matter of what your insurance will actually pay for.

Around where I live an accountant can ring you anywhere from 100 to 400 an hour whereas higher end hookers are around 150 to 200 an hour. Unless you go for the cheapest accountants, which sounds like a horrible idea, yes.

Taub isn't a bad doctor; he likely saw the Airway & vocal cords under direct laryngoscope. They were likely stenosed or swollen shut. So he called for surgical airway. Realistically, sure the SATS won't drop that fast. regardless an LMA wouldn't splint open the vocal chords

Ends up being a aneurysm in his aorta, Masters squeals to Cuddy about House using Vicodin, Cuddy yells at House, House yells back and does what he wants anyway, which In this case Is increasing the pressure in the aneurysm to break it up. Procedure takes a turn for the worse but Masters saves the day, Patient ends up cured and In IC Recovery. Masters asks the Patient out, he hesitates and Masters apologizes because she feels she acted inappropriately. Back at the hotel House finishes his Scotch as the younger patrons celebrate a sport team winning, bartender makes a crack about being young again so he could party like that. House jumps off the balcony of his hotel room Into the pool below, Wilson leaves super upset with him.

@@ButterscotchTHC Masters doesn't save the day, House does. Well, with a lot of help from Chase's superhumanly fast surgical skills. They deliberately put pressure on the aorta until the aneurysm tears it, and Chase has sixty seconds to repair the tear (with blood spurting into his uncovered, unprotected eyes, natch, cuz this is _House_ ) or the patient will die on the table from the massive rapid blood loss. The surgery scene is simultaneously one of the most preposterous yet riveting scenes the show has ever done.

I'm just guessing but It looked like he had foot infection... likely foot fungus... that got into his bloodstream...It could be a little tricky to diagnose since it wouldn't respond to antibiotics... and systemic fungus is not top of list for healthy people usually. But completely guessing. I didn't even watch this clip in full.

Yeah, she was a terrible character.

To me Masters is far and away the most interesting and likable member of the team. Her personality was a refreshing contrast to House's, pulling off the 'Sincere Idealist' character even better than Cameron, and she quit the team after realizing she was losing her joy in House's rabbit hole. If anything killed the show it was the constantly rotating cast that left viewers without anyone (but House, Wilson, and Foreman) anchoring them to the story.

thank you. you are right, at earlier seasons they had Cameron which she did that role in a realistic manner, she knew house would twist the rules and knew it was for the best of the patient, but with Masters, they made her so "perfect" and house had to cover his rule twisting methods for her. House almost went to prison for standing for his pride and principles, do you think he would keep her for more than 1 shift ? also the fact she was only medical student and somehow she came up with diagnostic methods that are no way traditional and by the book.... not realistic at all

I have worked in three hospitals where the chiefs of departments have been caught being high at work and nothing is done. At my current facility, our last Chief of Anesthesiology was caught diverting narcotics from our Pyxis machines (stealing drugs from secure medication storage). She was transferred to another facility, but not fired. At a previous facility, our Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and was arrested after getting busted attempting to purchase a significant amount of cocaine. The hospital merely demoted him from the chief position and suspended him from the hospital for a month. In the end, this one doctor contributed a huge amount of the facilities revenue, and the facility couldn't risk losing the patients. Sadly, in medicine, if you bring in money to the hospital, you can and will get away with a significant amount of BS.
