As retired fire service who is getting to the “old and fat” stage (just turned 49), I appreciate this. I may not be in my 20s anymore, but there ARE still roles in the field I can fill. If Afghanistan, Syria, and Ukraine have demonstrated anything, it is that citizen soldiers are definitely still viable in the modern combat zone.

I'm 66. I will be wearing a Plate Carrier decked out with Rifle Magazine Pouches, Holster, Pistol Magazine Pouches, Radio Pouch, Canteen, IFAK. It is to be able to Defend my Position. I will not be able to move very fast. I know that.

@@lewisbales6190 I'm 61 and My stuff is mostly the old alice gear, one set is for summer use and the other set is for winter when I'm wearing a heavy coat. I have other stuff that is mostly collectors stuff, one set is semi modern is british from their pervious generation with a lot of pouchs set to it and trying to under it for it is more up to date. in my area most of the countryside is populated, so I won't be stampeding there and going to holdup where I live!

Just found this video and I love the “old fat guy perspective”. I am in my 50s with no military background and just got into the self defense and preparation world as well. Will be looking for more like this!

I'm liking the way you're doing this series! It's a journey you're on and you're documenting the process of figuring it out! Thought for ya... -Use the dangler as a sort of GP pouch and put your light/headlamp, multitool, snacks, hank of cordage, and a little booboo kit in there. -The admin pouch on the center of the chest rig use for map/compass, small map reading light, and notepad/pencil. -Put your IFAK on your belt line. -You look pistol mag heavy... 4 on the chest, 2 on the belt and 1 in the gun is alot for a secondary weapon. I wish there was a way of removing those extra pistol mag pouches (the 2 outermost ones could be trimmed off... I'm just thinking out loud but maybe use one or two for smoke for breaking contact?)... -Comms gear? I might have missed it though. Anyways, nicely done video!

This is very good advice! I agree on the pistol mag pouches there are too many. I may just trim some off to make it more slick

Great series so far. I like how the presentation is based on reality. A retired military person, or civilian militia "operator," either not being "in the game" for awhile, or not having real world experience, is best suited to perform reconnaissance and surveillance, and report their observations using the S.A.L.U.T.E. (Size, Activity, Location, Unit, Time, and Location) format.

I've got the same chest rig that Adams has but I'm using mine more for bushcrafting and camping by making the upper portion into a fire kit and of course, the lower pouch as an ouch pouch. I run the chest harness with my pack and have found that they compliment one another while both the chest rig and pack compliment my plate carrier. You and Z seem to be great battle buddies for an SHTF situation. I'm liking this series. You should have Z as a guest more often. 🙂

Excellent topic in the prepared citizen series. Mr. Zourdos, like me with the marriage of old gear and new also the spot report He was referring to is the "SALUTE" acronym = Size, Activity, Location, Unit, Time, and Equipment. Regards,

fyi the Space Pen / pencil thing is a urban legend; truth is a actually a better storey as USA gov didn't spend anything on R+D and the as pencils left conductive filing floating around causing short circuits even the Russians bought them.

I would also say keep patches to an absolute minimum and use natural colors such as ranger green if not camo. But keeping patches minimilized lowers confusion if someone else is trying to access pouches.

Great video! I was searching for “minute man” inspired videos when I came across yours. My wife and I are moving our family from the suburbs of Mundania to a modest homestead with a couple of acres. Having nearly 20 years of law enforcement experience, I decided to put together a “Bump Kit” (credit to PJF) for those things that might go “bump” in the night. Because who is the expendable idiot the wife sends to: “go check out that noise” By no means am I looking to make an assault kit. Just something light and functional. So, I drew inspiration from my LEO years… Like you, I bought a light weight chest rig from Amazon to hold a few p-mags and some gear. Dusted off an old duty belt, duty holster, mag pouch, flash light and universal radio pouch (ham or gmrs with shoulder mic). Then stored them in my safe to grab quickly. Same simple rig that has served me for years. You have inspired me to add a small day pack to hold a few essentials to expand the overall kit. Great useful tips! Thank you both!

Just don't go to the range go out overnight if your going for a. Drive anyway make the most of it. National forest or B.L.M. land is every were. How you train out there is up to you. No range guards.

are you sure..? there is a lot of brand new needless shit in that combat rig.. listen Im older and fatter too.. load two rifles and ammo and a range bag on your person and go up and down your stairs twice.. that is too much to be carrying "nowadays".. good vid tho. you two should do an "if i could have one gun " vid..

S.A.L.U.T.E. Report, Size, Arms, Location, Unit Time, Equipment. Side note, don't use anything black, it's not a natural color. Failed first creep in sniper training because they saw the black soles of my jungle boots!!!! too much loose items in the butt pack. should be compartmentalized. Good vid though. place a tourniquet horizontally in front of your holster. keep it slick on the back, as much as possible. different loadouts for different missions also.
