It's so sad to see all your hard work coming down for winter. The good news will be watching it go up in the spring! Excellent job to ya'll. Love watching the family working together. Sarah you're a hoot😅 and Jeff you really know your stuff , so proud.
Thanks Nancy. The work never ends here. But hey at least it keeps us all moving. These menopause hormones are not too " waist friendly" ! Thanks for watching 😊👍
My favorite hard working Alaskan family You are very genuine compared to some yutube families. God bless you and keep you safe. Dave Schmitz in North Pole, Alaska
Thank you Dave! So much to do and so little time...I am sure you can relate. Oh well at least our kids are good helpers and we work together pretty good ( most of the time...! Lol) Thanks for watching 👍😊
I was just telling a fella here in Australia about how your teaching your kids to real life chores & to be honest this only exists in rural & regional communities on a small scale nowadays. Hopefully your channel can promote good healthy living & learning to the next generation 🤠
Well thank you. That's a nice compliment. Yes living this lifestyle requires "all hands on deck" if you know what I mean... it wouldn't work with 1 or 2 pulling all the weight. Good skills will hopefully give them a jump start on their adult lives. Learning how to live in the wilderness and survive is quite a challenge. They will eventually choose their way, but at least we are teaching them the skills we know... Thanks for watching us 😊
Boy that view of Denali behind you was spectacular. It's amazing all the prep work you have to do for your winters. Your family works great together. Thanks for another great video. Wishing you all the best.
Here in the U.K. I generally smear the seeds of tomatoes on kitchen roll paper to absorb the jelly around them as this prevents germination. I leave them to dry on the kitchen paper and then flake them off into a paper bag or envelope marked with the variety and date them. Hope this helps. You can also stir the seeds in clean water u til the gel around the seeds washes off then drain away the gel leaving the seeds and again dry them out on kitchen roll paper before storing.
Thank you so much for sharing!!!! I just don't know what I am doing but I am trying. Hopefully it works! Your way is simple.... I like simple Thanks again 😊👍
Texas here its been 87 to 94 lately. Seems warmer than last year this time. At Halloween alot of people dress kids up and they are sweating. Have a blessed day.
You guys got a pretty good potato harvest. The tomatoe seeds I put on paper towel to dry than store them till next yr. Unfortunately the weather here in Florida is calling for a hurricane 🌀 😕 and yep heading towards me, but it will have to cross the state, which isn't much, before it gets to me. So hopefully it won't be to strong by than!
Oh no. That's scary...I will think good thoughts for you. Ok good to know about the tomatoe seeds. I have never done that before so I don't really know what I am doing. Thanks for sharing. I hope you stay safe. Apparently there is snow in our forecast soon? Yikes. It always comes earlier than we want it to. You take care!
I love love that view. Thank you sharing your families lifestyle with us .i am from Southeastern North Carolina. We are less than 400 miles from western North Carolina where our state suffered devastation last eeek week with Hurricane Helene. Our temperature on the coast is 85. We live 45 miles from the famous Myrtle Beach South Carolina. We do enkoy watching you and your family. Always love your shopping hauls. God bless you and your family. Best reguards, Ann & Ron Rockwell/ Evergreen NC
Greetings! Yes, horrible hurricane and hopefully you guys were safe it sounds like. I am glad you enjoy our videos and hauls. I am hoping for another Costco trip in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for watching us and stay safe...
Thanks so much for the shout out! I think I was the Wisconsin temp. Reporter. 😅 it will actually shoot back up to 80 next weekend after this week in the mid 60s. Crazy warm weather. Great part 2 episode. I laughed at the red farm vehicle gathering wood!😂
Yep you probably were the Wisconsin temp! Wow 80's! Crazy warm. Yes my kids are very creative and Harley hates being bossed around by big bro Hudson...so he will go through great lengths to keep his independence! Ha. Creative guy. Thanks for watching 😊
Absolutely love your channel. Watch you from here in the UK 🇬🇧 You're teaching your Kids wonderful lessons in Alaska life! Here in UK high 16 low 11. Autumn/ Fall is here!
Oh wow! That temp sounds great right about now!... it's getting pretty cold here Well thank you for sharing 😊 Hopefully another video out this Saturday!
Lots of work and lots of help. Nice, getting it done. Nor cal here. It’s been hot over 100 and not cooling off at night. Staying 80’s. It’s hard to get much done when it is so hot
Oh my goodness...that's so hot. My menopause hormones would not do well in that temp! Whew, hopefully you have good air conditioning... thanks for sharing and hope your temps cool off soon! 😊👍
Hey guys well number one I saw that you had all that fine leaves at your getting rid of or moving to another place it didn't look like you were composting them you need to compost them really important if you have that much leafy matter seriously. Not to your tomatoes i wouldn't do anything we are rotted Tomatoes I would get some really good soil and I would dig down a little deep about a foot half a foot half a foot and mixing new soil and I'd stick them back and put straw on top about a foot of straw to keep ground warm and then cover it with plastic probably so it didn't freeze too bad but let tomatoes reseed naturally that's the best thing. Now if you want to put in tomatoes i suggest starting your tomatoes 3 to 4 weeks inside the house get them nice and healthy until you're grounding temperature is above 60°, you want warm ground temperature seriously. Same thing for cucumbers if you want to put up pickling cucumbers you need to do the following boston's are the best pickling cucumbers by far since we've been having global warming and it's been screwing everything up i used to for years with plant for plants on either side of my house and by June i would have a trellis and cucumber plants would meet each other over the top of my house really and I could feel to every day i can feel too jars full of pickles and that was wonderful i'll give you the recipe you need a hydrometer 22% on a hydrometer scale of salt now I use fresh dill and some bridal also about a teaspoon but I pack it with a lot of fresh still and a handful of garlic and pickling spice without pepper about a tablespoon or more and then I packed pickles in this tight as I can get them before I do that I cut them almost in half so they will receive the brine quicker once you fill it up with Brian captain good and tight and datum date them you want a place 45° i have a spare refrigerator and I said it so everything is 45° and I just shove it my pickle jars there in about a month and a half you have half hour pickles and then they will last for at least a year and they get better and they become full pickles within 9 months but they have showers are incredible at 22% salt don't go any higher and don't go any lower this is the best I found to work in salt content. Your potatoes look beautiful very nice looking potatoes. I normally plant purples potatoes and some russets burbank russets and when I think you need is more fertilizer that's what I think you need on your potatoes that usually helps and remember potatoes are the easiest thing to grow and you could grow if you had to a big place where you have really good turn soil they grow fast also another good thing to grow that likes cold weather down to about 35 ° is garlic it's a weird plant but it's good it keeps all the bugs away and what I would recommend is finding garlic around your vegetables the outside plants and I would plan them about half a foot away from each other and it usually keeps most of the bugs away that any hot herbs
Well thank you so much for all of your gardening tips! I am always eager to learn more about gardening. I like your tip on the certain type of cucumber. I will look into that. We are most likely going to tarp the leaves and add to our compost area. I know leaves have incredible nutrients. I didn't know garlic kept the bugs away! Cool to know. Thanks for all of your tips! 😊
you can freeze the tomatoe seed with pulp and use for next yr planting. Or you can take the some of the seeds and plant in 5 gal buckets and grow them indoors for winter tomatoes just remember to place in a well lite area and to self pollenate when they flower by tapping the plant. I grow alot of veggies and fruit indoors and i live in an apt. I use a couple cheap grow lights. Hope this gives you some ideas
Oh wow. Great job! Ok that sounds good. I didn't know you could freeze the seeds, neat. I also didn't know you could tap the plant to help pollinate. That's good info. Thank you for sharing! 😊
Here in Oregon we've gone over 5 months with no rain. Fires everywhere. Our temperatures have been running in the high 70's late September. Can't wait until Autumn really kicks in.
Wow. I bet it's pretty smoky there. My mom lives in Oregon City and she said we are lucky here in Alaska to have the cooler weather. No rain for Oregon in 5 months. Wow, strange. It seems the weather everywhere is a bit different these days! Thank you so much for sharing. I am crossing my fingers for you for rain and cooler temps soon! 😊
Ok not bad in New Jersey! We are dipping off into freezing temps at night. It's nice though because the bugs are finally gone! Yeah Thanks for sharing & watching 😊
Early fall in the Va foothills much appreciated Next week 40-75 range. We usually try to season our hardwoods for the wood stove to 15-17% . Been working hard to stay at least 1 years worth ahead.
Oh I am jealous you are a year ahead. We try, but there's always a million other things to do... it's difficult! Oh well...we are starting to mill some birch for inside siding. That's next on the to do list. Thanks for watching! 😊
Yes, thank you! We will of course do a video soon on milling...thanks for watching us!😊 Yes birch is amazing wood once it is milled. The siding should look pretty good. It does take lots of time to mill out. So it will be a work in progress...😊
Hi from Upper peninsula Michigan,High 73° today but the next week is in the high to middle 60's then back up in low 70's again! Then 50's are coming the week after!😢😢😢
Oh my...sounds like you are slowly heading into late fall/winter.... thanks for sharing! 😊👍 We are hitting freezing temps at night. The good news is bugs are finally gone. I can leave the front door open for a minute and not have hundreds of mosquitoes flying in! Lol
Wow. No summer means affecting food crops sometimes. Seems like weather has been whacky all over! Well apparently there is snow in our forecast soon.. Yikes here we go! Thanks for watching and sharing!😊
I live as far north as you can go in Texas and we’re still sitting records for heat. It was 96 yesterday. That’s 20 degrees higher than our normals. Some years we have had snow by now. We’re suppose to be able to see northern lights tonight. We’ve had them twice this year. I’ve never heard of them being seen here before this year.
I agree. Some fishy weather and auroras going on for sure. Sorry to hear you are still very hot temps there. I had a lady from somewhere very warm that said her garden and fruit trees all died this year because of the extreme heat. So sad. Well I wish you well and hope for some cooler temps for you! 🤞 Thanks for sharing... !
Wow, mid October 88 degrees? That seems warm! Well the weather everywhere seems to be warmer than usual here and there. Apparently we have snow in our forecast soon.... yikes! Well thank you for sharing!😊
57 sounds nice. We don't get much rain here... it's usually just snowing or overcast and cloudy in the summer. When we used to live in Oregon we would get lots of rain. Thanks for sharing!!! 😊👍
Hello sorry been shopping all day just got back home I just watched your video lots of work to do before winter comes it’s really nice to see the hole family working together wow for have a lot of potatoes 🥔 how long will they last the family have a great Sunday and week coming up here from Ontario Canada ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦😎
Yeah!!! Harley is more of the "adventurous kind" of kid... I worry about him because he loves doing dangerous things!Ah! Hudson is more of the cautious, first born child. So funny. They are brothers but so very different!
Yes, if I remember Idaho can have some decent winters there! We lived in Eastern Oregon for a bit and it was pretty comparable to Alaska winters! Well, enjoy those great temps before winter...thanks for watching 😊
21C that sounds pretty comfortable! Hopefully some nice sunshine with those temps! Well apparently there is some snow in our forecast soon...yikes and here we go! Thanks for sharing!😊
Yes that seems to be the trend I am noticing with the viewer comments. It's been very interesting.... well we are getting freezing temps in the morning now here in Alaska. At least the bugs are finally gone! Thanks for sharing!😊
Oh thank you Carol!!! We are putting this and some of your last donation to a good pair of snow bibs for her. We went shopping yesterday. Thank you!!!❤❤❤
Wow. That is crazy. Yes it seems lots of the viewer comments have stated it's warmer than usual all over the world. I had a lady that said she lost her garden and fruit trees because of the heat. So sad. Well thank you for sharing!😊 Apparently we have snow in our forecast soon here...
Great video. Did you end up getting close to your 500 lbs of potatoes.? I wonder if your onions were so small because of the crowding from cabbage and beets.
I would say we have harvested about 200-250 LBs so far. Not bad and more to pull up. I think you are right with the crowding. We are still eating them though, and they are very tasty!!!
Weather: Sunday 3:00 am Mostly cloudy, with Rain and Thunder for the whole coming week, As for the temperature its i'll post it in F so no one thinks i am Biased... highest will be 85° and minimum same time tonight will be 79° Regard from Singapore, Stay safe n Warm.. God bless.
Wow. Rain and thunder... well hopefully you have had some sunshine in there too! Sounds like comfortable weather as far as temps go. We have had freezing temps in the morning lately. Thank you for sharing! 👍😊
Hello Norway!!! Sounds like a pretty comfortable temp. Thanks for sharing!!!😊👍 We have been dipping into freezing temps overnight. It is nice because the bugs are finally gone!!
One more thing what kind of wood do you use inside the house for shelving? I know you told us but don’t remember and is that wood plentiful there. I’m very interested in the life of Alaska
Oh no problem Cathy! Hudson built me some simple shelving out of live edge spruce. It's still holding up just fine. We are going to mill birch for the inside wall siding. We are starting to mill boards out for that. It should look beautiful when it's done. However it will still be a while, one log at a time....! 😊👍
Yes...it's about time already. I am so sick of looking at pink insulation and plastic inside... but we are starting to work on it so that's exciting!...😊
No use for it in winter. We get about 6 or more ft of snow. It builds up all around it. Too hard to keep snow off. It can snow 2 ft overnight so it would collapse
There is an ice skating spot. However the kids didn't really want to do that. They don't play hockey. They do like to snowboard and ride their snowmachines around though. That is their favorite thing to do in the winter. Lots of space and lots of snow too
I see you have a tractor do you have a bush dog to knock all those weeds down and how come when you cut trees down you don't cut it all the way to the ground
Hello there! We do not have a bush hog. I think why he leaves a higher stump is for the excavator to eventually pull it. We will rent one again soon. We have to clear 16 acres for Alaska state requirements for agriculture land. Our requirements need to be met in a couple of years Thanks for watching,! 😊👍
I'VE NOTICED YOU HAVE A LOT OF DEAD TREES AND BRANCHES ON YOUR PROPERTY. WHY DON'T YOU TAKE THEM TO YOUR FIRE PIT FOR BURNING. AREN'T THEY A BIG FIRE HAZARD. YOU SAY YOU ARE HARVESTING POTATOES, BUT NOT MUCH IS SHOWN ON YOUR VIDEO. I KINDA ENJOY YOUR VIDEOS, WHEN I SEE WORK IS BEING DONE TO IMPROVE YOUR PROPERTY.
Thanks for watching. So we do need to move the dead stuff to the burn piles. That's just time needed there. So the potatoe harvesting we do have some footage of but it's on my son's channel. Harley in Alaska He is young and is starting a new channel and wanted to put some of the potatoe harvest on his channel. We still have more to pull up, so I will make sure it will be in a video to see. Thanks for the suggestion on content and we appreciate you watching us!😊👍
