Small tactical looking backpacks are so common anymore that they probably wouldn't draw that much attention.

@not1word331 true. Brand name wholesale stores sell cheap tactical packs. They are cheap in price and generally hold more. So yes, they are becoming more common. Backpacks with molle are the new Ar15 of the Backpack world lol.

Love the kit. One thing I would probably add is a change of socks, underwear, and a T-shirt. Should you get wet, having one to wear and one to dry out could come in handy. If you often wear suits or nice clothes (like I do) I'd also be sure to have a full change of clothing. Trying to get home in a civil unrest situation in a suit and dress shoes would not be ideal lol.
@jpjohnbo

I'd also change out those gloves to a good set of pig skin leather gloves. I like pig skin gloves because they are very durable, stay pliable after drying out, and can be bought with Kevlar lining for cut/puncture resistance (Endura-378gktkl gloves) for around $20. And from my old Infantry days, a set of dry socks to change into is a huge morale booster.

At least you'll have a fighting chance, as you'll be able to lawfully defend yourself and with the necessary tools🔫🗡🪓if you know what I mean. If I'm not mistaken, over there, you can get in trouble for even defending yourself with just your fists.

Your solution to the gray-man dilemma is genius. 👍🏼👍🏼 And I have nothing against the gray-man theory (blending in is essential), but in a true shtf situation, anyone who has a backpack will be a target no matter what it looks like.
@skeeterbone
@skeeterbone 2 месяца назад
I have been of the mindset that in the event of a "regular" get home situation, nobody cares what the bag looks like. But in a "SHTF or WROL" get home event, it may not matter either. The fact that you are carrying anything at all make you a target for those looking to take your "stuff" regardless of what it might be. I think the key is to dont look like an easy target. Most "evil doers" are looking for easy victims.

Totally support the decision to carry OC pepper spray. You should always have a less lethal option available. My only suggestion would be to mount it on your shoulder strap so you can easily access it in the event of you needing to deploy it. Having it inside your pack will take far too long to get out should you need it at a moments notice. They make pouches for them on Amazon if you want to conceal what it is as you carry it around. Just thought I’d pass along the suggestion…

Having it stored near your face is a bad idea, if it gets punctured or the seal gets broken is a skirmish, that'll blast you in the face, or near enough that you will feel the effects and have hours of pain, oc sprayed and certified, without being able to decontaminate, it could be 15-24 hours of pain

Alright. Few things. Your bag is great for entertainment purposes. Other than that, it needs a complete redo. Trash the radiation cards. Without a detector they’re useless. The only way you’ll know you’ve been exposed to high amounts of radiation is when you show symptoms of radiation sickness. At that point it’s too late. Second, trash the pro mask. It’s not worth the weight. The only thing it’ll be good for is CS gas. Or excessive farting. Nerve agents you ask? You’re dead before you notice as they’re colorless and odorless and can’t be detected without an ICAM or JCAD. It won’t protect against rad so no point of it there. That food cooking supplies…. Trash it. More unnecessary weight that you don’t need and most likely won’t have food or time for to use it anyway. That radio? Trash it. Comms will be knocked out. Good supplies for a camping trip, horrible for survival. Pack more ammo, a larger gun (AR pistol variant) or even MRE type foods. If you’ve thought of it, your enemy has thought of it. Pack better. I did enjoy watching so don’t feel as if I didn’t. Just don’t see the need in myself allowing others to fail.

@pelle7771
@pelle7771 24 дня назад
You could argue if the gas mask is really needed, but it can protect against more than ca, depending in the filter you apply. It will protect against Rad, because you suck in particles nearly every filter will get rid of. Yes, iodine-131 may come through, depending in the filter, but the mayority wil be filtered. Same with nerve gases. Yes, you will Not be able to detect them, but if you are Not alone abd you see someone throwing up or starting to convulse, a gas mask can protect you. And it can protect you from a lot of stuff from a chemical accident, fire gases,... Not completley but from my own experience: If there is a fire in the building, you are not protected against CO and too much CO2, but your eyes aren't tearing and you are not coughing. That's helps a lot escaping from the building. And CO and CO2 are not a long time health issue. You die or you survive. The gases from burned plastic, chemicals and so on can be a long time problem. And a Standard cheap filter (in EU: A2B2E2K2HgP3) for about 30 bucks can filter out nearly everything dangerous (not CO and CO2).
@thomasmurphy3570
@thomasmurphy3570 18 дней назад
Keep in mind he did say this is a get home bag not a BOB or true SHTF bag... so a mask would be incredibly useful for things like bear or peoper spray since at this rate getting stuck in or near civil unrest/riots is not an unlikely event. Same goes for coms. Yeah if a state actor attacks the US coms would be down most likely but for everthing else like natural disasters, civil unrest, ect it could be a lifesaver

I think the tactical bag no no is just ridiculous. If you’ve gotten to a time where someone would be willing to go after a guy with a tac bag that looks to be prepared to handle himself then times are hard enough that seeing any kind of bag, black ,grey, or pink they’ll go after what you might have in it anyway. Any bag. Period. If anything they’ll think twice about challenging a tactical looking guy.

I've never understood the recent infatuation with "greyman" garbage. We assemble these bags with the assumption that when we use them, some serious sh*t has happened. If we are now in some world where predatory hordes are walking the streets with us, they are going to try to take a college book bag just the same as anything else -- and the more grey you look, the easier a target you appear to be. I want my appearance to tell everyone with LOS to me that I'm a serious MFker, and trying to take my stuff might cost you. If the situation isn't that serious, chances are the bag isn't coming out in the first place.

I have had extensive training in the use of respirators and gas masks, specifically in the industrial side of things, i.e. confined space, evacuation procedures, etc. and in every class, situation, and demonstration it is stressed that facial hair is a big, BIG no, NO when it comes to respiratory protection. A tight seal can not be achieved with facial hair. My suggestion is to carry a disposable razor and soap... but when there is a black cloud of toxins floating your way, or perhaps a colorless cloud of toxins floating your way... Well, I'd be dry shaving. in a hurry. That was a good little vid. I subscribed and rang that bell!

"Gey man" is a good philosophy - don't stick out, don't draw attention etc but in a general SHTF situation here ROL is in place, where you need to get home a tactical looking bag is not really going to be a major issue. I see kids using them as school bags, gs in suits using them as laptop bags and even see a local homeless guy with a bright pink one. They are pretty common place (obviously depends where you are.) In a major, wide spread SHTF situation and especially in WROL, civil unrest situation ANY packs will be a potential target.

Another great video. Sooo happy to have escaped California to the Free State of Idaho. As a retired LEO Id suggest skipping the OC Spray and get bear spray instead. The LEO OC spray is better than the civilian version and the bear spray is a lot better than the civilian type. The bear spray works on wildlife and wild people. i keep a can in both vehicles and hang on to the expired cans. OC spray is more of a concentrated directional spray. Bear spray is a cloud and hangs in the air like a curtain. So you could throw up a 'curtain' of bear spray that a pursuer would have to run through to follow you as you escape. It buys you time to deploy harsh language and other defensive systems.

So much great gear! Seems more like a survival bag… not necessarily a get home bag, unless “get home” means you’re thinking about traveling for weeks on end over a crazy long distance. I had built a similar bag as well (which of course I still have!)… My point is that if you are building a “get home” bag, that should probably be a bag you only intend to stay one mayyyyybe 2 nights most… more than likely a bag that will get you home inside of 24 hours. A bag loaded like yours and how my first one was loaded, will slow you way down. Get home is your absolute essential gear and protection. Survival/bug out is def going to be more inline with what you have shown in this video. Excellent gear though! Thanks for sharing!

What would you recommend he drops from this 24 to 48 hour bag?
@Smethjt05
@Smethjt05 Месяц назад
@@chief5981 that’s a great question. I think it all depends on the climate you live in and where you typically travel. Of course we won’t know when we will exactly need our get home bags. So you want to be prepared for almost anything. If you knew you needed to travel say 40 miles, you might consider dropping a bunch of weight. That might include shelter and cooking equipment. Or other cumbersome gear, so that you can travel faster and easier. You prob won’t need shelter or to actually cook food if you’re going to make it home in three days or less. But that’s what I mean about knowing your climate and particular situations. If it’s winter versus summer, you’ll require more or less gear. Having more than you need packed and loaded in your car is great! But in the moment of critical decision making, know that it’s likely not going to be ideal to hoof the entire pack fully loaded if the trip is long. Now if your trip is say 1-2 days of travel and you don’t mind having that much weight… no problem at all. Of course it’s all personal preference. I just found after making a few bags and testing them out by hiking and camping, that a lot of gear I was packing either didn’t get used or I felt I was making the situation lead me to need it. For example, you could bring a stove and fire making capabilities to cook food. Or you could just have a dozen cliff bars and snack as you go. Anyway… no time for paragraphs right now haha. Good luck all and let’s work together when we are eventually needed.

I think if poop gets bad having a bag people will start to want want people have if they look like they have anything so I’d say after a day or two either way you could be a target. I’ll def buy a cover and do same for mine. Great vid. I need to build me up a better one. I got the gear just need to make a bigger better long distance bag that I leave in my truck. Been thinking about leaving a double barrel coach gun or my TPS scout 410/.357mag rifle takedown in a bag. Both small enough you could have a shot gun for getting home. In my opinion,if it is a shtf event tactical or non tactical,gray man theory is bs .People who have prepared aren’t going to care if you are tactical or not as long as you leave them alone or buddy up. Those who didn’t prepare are going to be panicking and will be wanting whatever you have anyway,in this case they may leave you alone knowing that you maybe prepared and expecting to be confronted.But when people are scared or hungry it won’t matter what you look like,they want whatever you may have “your not a school kid with school supplies and books in your pack”.

The bag is on point. Something else is if you work somewhere scout the area to work and home to pick out the best path for concealment. Have several plan routes as things change . That way you can pick the safest route even if it's a little farther away. If there are some wooded areas you may want to stay stationary concealed and travel at night. As the grey man you might think about dirty worn out clothes to look like a homeless person that has nothing of value and the bag needs some dirt and wear on it to look used. A new backpack will draw attention.

I see them everywhere. My initial thought on the cover was anyone who knows what it is could think its not raining nor is it supposed to why does he have that in what is he hiding but then in a crazy chaotic situation i feel not too many people will really be paying that much attention to what you're wearing like a tacticle pack or maybe a far as camo people wear camo. Sure someone could notice but i feel like todays society is so oblivious we may be thinking too much into it. What are your thoughts on that?

I would refrain from keeping the gas mask in your vehicle. Extreme temperatures will warp the mask and affect the seal. Great video! I need to redo my packs and consolidate what I have to save space.

I like that idea about covering your backpack with some 'grey'. I might just use a plain black trash bag with handles to pull it tight around the backpack.

I like your idea of using the water repellant cover for stealth carrying. Anything which lowers your profile and helps you blend into the environment is a good idea in my opinion.

You missed road flares. For all the obvious reasons plus they are effective for clearing a way out of a crowd/riot you've suddenly been caught up in. It happens faster than you think. Get the kind that go for half an hour.

Cool story, bro... Got everything but the drone. Which is something I've been looking into. 🤔 Good idea for recon. I just can't decide on a brand or whether i should get a thermal one. Recently added an eboard to my preps instead of an e bike because i like snowboarding. Now i can do it in the summer and have another mode of transport just in case.

I would recommend tapping over the flashlight lens when not in use. If you do try taking two pieces first piece cut to just the size of the lens glue side away from the glass and then a bigger piece to go over it and hold in place.

I would try and get the bag down to around 10 to 12 pounds, not including the blaster or blasters. Your bag empty comes in at almost 3 pounds. A bag geared more towards hiking like an Osprey is less weight, remember ounces equal pounds when on foot. For me I am going to be moving fast to GTFO of an urban area.

I live in Ventura County in Southern CA, my two older daughters are going to college and 90% of the students carry some sort of black backpack tactical style, reason is we live close to two Navy bases so it’s common to find students with tactical packs. I do agree on tactical packs versus the grey man or hiking backpacks cause where I live you would definitely stick out like a sore thumb. Price point is also what I base my gear on as well.

Mardingtop is a sure to go brand. Saw yours and I knew is a margintop. Some have included a bottom pouch for the bag cover. I prefer Have a straw filter more flexible (has one sold at cabelas for 45us you can use on a squich bag, or attached to the camel, or wtharever) and reliable a compact sollar panel for radio, light etc

Good morning. Great content. In my opinion, ANY looter is going to target ANYBODY obviously carrying any type of supplies in ANY form. So you might as well carry what you feel like and be prepared to defend yourself. If anything, a more tactical bag may be a very small deterrent, suggesting the prey may be less of a pushover.
@TS19781
@TS19781 2 месяца назад
I think pretty much anyone with a backpack is going to be targeted regardless if it looks tactical or not during a dire situation.

While tactical in theory would make you stand out, most people carry that type of pack anyway so I don't read too much in to that theory. I'll be in a blue work uniform with my name and the company I work for on the shirt with a green tactical backpack on if for some reason I have to abandon my Jeep.

Best to have some defensive weapons too. A couple of things that might be legal to have shipped and keep in the home, but may not be legal to carry right now. An intimidating, yet concealable, and functional cutting instrument, expandable baton, the strongest OC Spray that you can acquire. Fox Labs is extremely hot stuff. I know a few cops and all of them agree that they'd rather get shot with a taser a dozen times than take even just one shot to the face from that stuff. I know you have very restrictive regulations there on these sort of things ...But it looks like if you live in or near an urban area, there may come a time soon where the local police are not functioning anymore, for one reason or another. Then, carry restrictions for some personal defense items kind of go out the window for a bit. ...At least unless and until Martial Law is fully underway, ...God Forbid. Stay Safe, Brother.

Next time you get a bic lighter to replace your existing one, get a white one. You can look through it held up against a light source to see how much fuel is left without having to guess.

This is all good content. However , this is a bugout bag. Think about it, unless you are a hundred miles from home, your goal it to get home - FAST! Not eat, drink coffee, write letters or build structures. The get home bag has been blurred. If a true SHFT happened, you won’t care about drinking coffee with a gas mask on. This is an awesome camping bag.

My job can have me anywhere from 10-300 miles away from home, with mountainous/arid terrain between. "Getting home" can be a very different for different people. Take the useful ideas, and ignore what doesn't make sense for your own situation. Do consider, that if times dictate the need for something like a get home bag, you are already in uncharted territory, so your ideas of normal are right out the window. What you have with you may be all that you have. Just a thought.
