I’m 31 and still enjoy her videos, I wish I could go back to my uni days as the person I am now but be 18 again and do it all over again.

I am studying dentistry (6y) and i’ll be 25 when i finish, but i am considering getting into Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery which requires another 6years of medicine and only then i can start residency and that means being 30-31 when done with uni and after 5 more years i should be done with residency. I’m from Eastern EU, this is the only specialty that requires both degrees. I started uni right after highschool at 19. Is 12 years of university + 5 residency too much?

I'm 49 and am working on a second undergrad degree too! I keep thinking that I'm crazy for doing it, but I just enjoy learning and studying and it's been a dream. I wish there were more RU-vidrs/community for older students but I still really enjoy watching Ruby's videos and can't wait to live vicariously through her time at Oxford. It is definitely a dream of mine to study there and I think I found a way to get a taste of it, even from Canada, with their Advanced Undergrad Diploma in Local History but that'll have to wait a couple of years at least. What degree are you working on?

Same for me (I did my undergrad, masters and DPhil at Oxford in the last 15 years). The crucial bit for the masters is to just try to read and re-read your way through the reading list as far in advance as you can because once it starts you will have absolutely zero time for anything other than the essays and tutorials etc. As we were told at the time: "Studying is what you do on the holidays; term time is when you put it into action."

@@jakecavendish3470 interesting. We didn't get the reading lists ahead of time. There was no reading list! Not in this way. That is called research. And we were the ones who did it. Perhaps it is a subject disparity then.

@@dees3179 It could be dependant on subject. The reading lists we got were basically core texts and then some recommended reading. They weren't hugely extensive though and I don't remember the stuff outside the core texts actually being all that useful in the end. And to be honest the way Oxford works your tutor has a tendency to just disregard a reading list and say "well I _expect_ you to have read Tacitus as part of a normal human's everyday reading" 😒. Obviously for DPhil there is zero reading list although at tutorials your supervisor may say "read so-and-so on X."

How long did your planner take to arrive? I'm still waiting on mine and it's almost been a week 😣

@@danycracks4490 Roughly a week and a half for me since my order had to go through American Customs before it could arrive. But once it's past customs it should arrive rather quickly!

@lmtb6349 i have no issue with those using ai to format text like ruby did. but when the content creators only mention of ai is in a positive light, especially as she is a creative writer - it leaves a bad taste in my mouth... success does not require the use of AI and the idea that 'adapting' AI into your workflow is something lovely and positive is naïve and spits on creators who are pushing for legislation and protection against their work.

I can also pass along some tips - When I take notes, I also write everything down. But after I'm done, I either do a mind map of the information to see what I recall quickly and what takes me a while, and then focus on reinforcing and remembering and learning the studd that I struggled to remember. Rewriting your notes can also be helpful, and as you do that, you can highlight / point out / note down concepts that you don't really remember very well from the lecture. Make sure you also write down questions when you rewrite your notes so you can go back to your professor or teacher with them the next time that you see them! Hey, here are a few things from my personal experience, I hope you do not mind me sharing. If there are any mistakes I apologize because I talk into my phone and also this might be lengthy. Do not set the expectation that everything possible will end up in your notebook. This is just not reasonable or realistic and so there is no point in putting extra pressure or stress on yourself. Next, make it easy. Do not fall into the habit of trying to remember something all day until you get home and can write it down. Either carry around a physical notebook wherever you go or create a digital version you can access on your phone. Some people prefer to keep a digital note temporally and every few days get into the habit of copying that on the paper, if they are worried about losing their physical book but they prefer to do it that way. Whatever strategy you use is great but just make sure it actually is easy and convenient so you get into the habit of actually using it often and that not becoming a hassle. Next, keep an open mind to what ends up in your notebook. For me it started off just as a place to put down phone numbers, which lasted for a couple of months until I transitioned to house many more things. For a lot of people including me just getting into the habit of putting things down on paper is a task in itself, so use it for whatever you want at the beginning. Some ideas could be phone numbers, email addresses, house addresses, quotes, poems, ideas, facts, questions, schedules, trackers, doodles, or really whatever else you want. You can always limit this a little bit more in the future if you want, or just like me leave it open to have anything I want. This is also a great way if you were doing it on physical paper to start using a notebook more than just your phone, and although a lot of these things could end up in your phone and also is a great time to practice using a commonplace book. Quick idea, use social media to start taking notes on something. It just is really great because a lot of us are on social media anyway quite a bit so if you want to get a little bit more practice that is a great idea. Yes it might sound ridiculous but they’re actually are sometimes pretty educational material, including this channel. Finally, and probably the most important thing remember it is your notebook to be used however you want. What someone else chooses to do or not to do in their notebook does not need to reflect onto yours. It is your notebook, your space to be whatever you want it to be so let it be just that. What someone else does does not need to at all affect what you do, because we are all unique and everyone is going to watch something different for the notebook which is awesome. Just remember it is not all going to happen in one day, building a habit always take a lot of time and effort so expect that.😊

Something else super quick I would like to mention is make a list on the first page of your notebook of things you could include. This is just a really great and easy place to get inspiration, I did my previous comment I suggested a few different things you can choose from or add to. Hope this also could help😊
