After living through Hurricane Ian here in Fort Myers (no power/TV/internet/basically nothing for four+ days -- like living in a warzone), I 1000% agree that being OVERLY prepared is the best option. Even our little weather radio helped us keep up with local updates. Things can go from "normal" to nothing in a second. I spent a lot of my stimulus money on upgrading emergency supplies (power banks, rechargeable batteries and LED lanterns/flashlights) and don't regret spending one cent!

Good job, getting an early start to prep for winter. We all seem to wait too long. Then wham!!

Dura flames are good as fired started. For those that have to worry about termites, DO not place the log holder up against your home. Maybe some salt in both of your vehicles

Great video. I do opposite. Here in Texas it gets triple digets heat. So have water snacks. Rechargeable fan. Carry extra charging bank. I broke down a couple days ago. Fan was used and snacks ate. So got to say you never know when you need help. I even carry small games and toys in case I break down or get stuck in road construction with my 6 year old grandson. Got to keep him happy. So in Texas I always keep things year round. Taught my kids same thing. We learned alot from each other. Be safe this winter.

Thx for the reminder to keep tanks fullish! Actually just trying to prep for earthquake safety down here in NorCal, something never in our face urgently enough for a good reminder, but it is serious all year. Gas is one of those things for sure. Good luck this winter! ☃️🎄

Love this video on winter prep. I live in Chicago and I'm lucky that I can take the Metra into work and like you I never let my gas tank get below half a tank and I always get my car tuned up in October for the winter along with getting the oil changed. The only time I drive my car if I need to is on the weekends if I need to run errands. I also stock up on food so if we ever get hit with a blizzard and I can't get my car out of the garage then I have food stocked up at home and that includes plenty of canned food as well. I also keep a stash of nonperishable food at work in my office along with a small stash of cash just in case.

Wow, I've never lived anywhere that got that cold! Here in the Bay Area, it barely gets beyond sweatshirt weather. I spent my teenage years in TN where we sometimes got snow, but it was still rare enough that it was a novelty. It was so funny when it snowed one Saturday when I was in college. Usually weekends were pretty dead on campus, but that day, everyone was out playing in the snow like a bunch of kids! When I went to get lunch at the cafeteria, I noticed they had taken all the trays away....turns out, people had been stealing them to use for sledding! 🤣

Send me a picture of your snowman. I have an awesome handmade snow(wo)man kit looking for a new home. It no longer gets the attention it deserves here in my high desert retirement location, and could possibly be yours😊. Snowmen - that was part of my winter preparation when living in Alaska. That half hour spent during the first moist snowfall building a snowman (or longer if creating a whole snowman family😊), is then enjoyed all winter long. Being greeted by a smiling snowman every time I come home brings a smile to my face. This early winter activity will of course come after all the winter safety preparations you mentioned, but (for me at least) a necessary one for helping to get through the long cold winters. ❤❤

But where’s your kitty litter? After living in Wisconsin for many years I’ve learned to always have a super large size box of the cheapest kitty litter available in your trunk. The weight of the box adds to traction and if you get stuck you can put it around each tire to give the tire something to grip. Kitty litter also is made to be absorbent so it also helps if you get mired in mud!

we always kept a bag of kitty litter in the back of the vehicles in MI so if we got stuck, you could pour it down for traction - it always worked great when we lived back in the woods. (My mom got stuck every year, 😀). I have the cloth door draft guard and have to wash it often so am very curious how you like the slide on version. i didn't know that existed!

I cannot relate, I live in Las Vegas and seriously i do not even have a coat. Hoodies, hats and gloves is the extent of my winter wardrobe, growing up in the northeast, i did have to deal with snow and scraping windshield, thank God I do not have to do that anymore.

Great video!! Here in Indy, we prep similar. Just about every year, I buy those car emergency kits, or something related and give them as Christmas gifts :) Also, I always refer to Sad lights as Happy lights lol and yo may have mentioned this, but a small bag, that has to be brought in and out ( I know its a hassle) filled with some bottles of water and snacks in case you get stranded for a little while,

Questions… do you need a tarp to cover up the wood outside or is it covered with the carport? Do you keep a plastic shoe/boot tray inside by door for snow/mud shoes? Do you have to plug in your car in Anchorage? Think for the battery life.
