With the snowy weather outside Eric heads to the unfinished Quonset Hut Shop to work on our vehicles for the cold and dark winter months up ahead. The Polaris gets new brakes, the tractor gets lights and both trucks get equipped with heaters and trickle chargers to help with start up. After a tire change and one last modification we test out the new lights on the Tundra.

Your truck battery posts needs cleaning... clean with warm water and baking soda.... wire brush both battery posts use toothbrush or wire brush. flush with water and wipe dry paper towel.... wire brush posts and all connections.... apply a light coating of any style grease (i use bearing grease) to all posts and wire connection ends...No more white battery post corrosion! ... been doing this for 55 years.

I love that you gave an old blanket to help out the squirrels. My mom loves the squirrels in her yard & feeds them peant butter sandwiches almost daily. If she doesn't get them out early enough they bang on her sliding glass door or hang upside down from the eaves & look in the kitchen window for her. Squirrels can be fun to watch. Great planning with getting your shop going this summer. It will be great to keep the snow off of things & it will be amazing when completed.

With the brake pads cooking, your pedal brake fade may have caused the brake fluid to boil and create vapor reducing the breaking efficiency. I would recommend a brake fluid change. Just speaking from experience as a mechanic.😊

That white crud on the positive terminal of your truck battery will continue to build until the electrical connection is broken. I'd suggest that you remove the connector and scrape an wire brush the white dust off, and after reattaching everything, make a strong solution of baking soda and water and brush the connector and top of the battery...it will foam as it neutralizes the acid from the battery....and you just rinse it off with a lot of water. Preventative maintenance that is just about free.

The freeze plugs on the engine are so when you don't have the correct coolant solution in your engine and it freezes, when the water expands and turns into ice it pushes the plugs out rather than cracking your engine block.

Gosh Eric, is there anything you can't do! Between you both you can tackle anything!! That's one of the reasons I love watching your videos. You are both so practical and always organised and prepared for any eventuality, everything you do is so professionally done, from everyday tasks to any major jobs. You are ying and yang, always on the same page and you are thriving, living the Alaskan life. Thank you so much for sharing your fascinating lives with us 💕💕💕

I have perhaps strange questions to ask you. 1) Do you celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas with family and friends up there or just by yourselves? Have you considered buying those cinch belts to wear when you are lifting heavy stuff to protect your spine? I used to be one who thought she could do anything at any time, and now as a senior, I'm paying some spinal 'bills'. Where do you guys for medical treatment? How far away is it from your new homestead? I worry about you two pioneers. On a practical matter, will you put roll-down garage doors to the hug to keep the winter snow and winds out? I think you should write a book called PIONEERING IN ALASKA. Eric, you are amazing in what you know how to do! You couldn't have a better partner in pioneering than Aerial. Thank you for taking the time to answer.

OMG that is a lot of work to do on the trucks. You know a lot about the mechanics and all the electrical components needed to function properly during such low temperatures in Alaska. Until your next video, take care and be safe. (Judy NB)🌲🇨🇦

Better watch out for squirrels and/or chipmunks if you have them. Squirrels chewed through the wiring in my daughter’s newish car TWICE, to the tune of over 3 grand. She was not amused.

You two are literally worth your weight in gold. Imagine how much it would have cost to take all those vehicles into a shop and have someone else do all that work. Amazing range of skills to have.

Love the calendar Arielle! Now about the end walls or closures? Hmmm? I have to warn you, with the right wind you will not believe the packed drifts that can form INSIDE an arch! Beautiful day! BTW Cayenne pepper powder repels squirrels. Sprinkle liberally.

Thank you for the tip 🙂 we imagine it will get quite a bit of snow but we plan to get the walls up next spring. So glad to hear you liked the calendar ❤

Hi you folks, You are really energetic as the season comes on. Just a thought, you could possibly hook up a remote control in order to turn on whichever vehicle you will need to take out. Plus, since I've missed an episode on the Quonset, is it your intention to eventually close in either or both ends, perhaps have big roll-up doors, and insulate? Or is the hut to be essentially a large vehicle & equipment storage and work bay? Hope you are just about set to go into the deep freeze. The Hunter's Moon is upon us, even now. Be well, be happy, be at peace, friends. ☺

They plan on adding end walls with large roll-up doors, they just ran out of good weather. It’s going to be heated as well.

Projector headlights do draw a lot more power, so yeah, a new battery will probably help; but remember not to leave the headlights on without the vehicle running because they'll draw it down really fast. You might also want to check the headlight fuse as well.

What a lot of work! I love seeing you tackle the weather prep - it always amazes me how much you are able to do, and it makes me wonder what you used to do before you 'retired'. Then you say that you're learning new things all the time - very cool! Nice to see you, too, Arielle! :D

What a bonus to have a huge space out of the elements to work on anything you want. You were so smart to put up the hut before you tackled other big projects. When it’s heated I can see things like furniture refinishing, small item painting projects, etc. being so comfortable to work on. 😍🇨🇦
