In this chapter we start to sail south from Scotland. We begin to prepare the boat and ourselves for this nomadic life at sea. From Scotland, to Ireland, to France and then Spain -- sailing offshore and across oceans requires special considerations while we try to make our sailing dreams a reality.

About the project:
More than just an adventure vlog, we intend to share fresh perspectives along the way from the people we meet and the places we visit. We seek to discover how to be humans in this rapidly changing world, and what that means for how we interact with each other and the natural world we depend on.
Thanks for watching!
Filming: Tim, Mitch, Charlotte Percle (@charlottepercle)
Editing: Tim & Mitch
Special thanks: Tica and Becky

Watch out la vagabond there’s some new kids on the block haha !! Keep up the good work guys I’ve a feeling you going to become very popular online if you keep up the good content. Some of the best quality and shots I’ve seen recently on sailing adventure vlogs. A little bit more personal filming combined with the talk overs tho and you’ll have nail it... all the best guys look forward to all the update and..... enjoy yourselfs !!

@FoolsGold Haha!! Thanks so much! Really kind of you. Great idea about the more personal filming, we're going to try it! It might take us a few videos to get comfortable with it though as we're both quite shy on that side of the camera! Best wishes from the boat, Tim & Mitch

Sailing Beyond Borders everything’s hard at the beginning but just remember if you start now the video shyness will disappear soon and within say 6 months you’ll be a natural in front of the camera.... it’s not about winning oscars for best actor like some of the vlogs out there it’s just being yourself and adding your own personal touch for the viewers 😁 all the best amigos

Thanks so much! Prior to reaching Spain we didn't plan to create a RU-vid channel so picking up the camera was a low priority. Having the camera ready is now part of our engine checks haha :) Lots of sailing action on the way

Loving these short videos, but always happy to watch more but I know how long they can take to take, edit and publish. Andy UK

Thanks Andy that means a lot! Our goal is to make them longer and more frequent, but for now a lot of our non-sailing time is taken up with work to fund the adventure. As our RU-vid and Patreon communities grow we can gradually devote more time to it which excites us a lot! :)

Beautiful short film. What is the make of stove on board?

Thanks Simon! The heater is the 'Newport' by Dickinson. We used this a lot at anchor in Scotland, and when in a marina we use a household-style portable radiator which plugs in to mains power. www.kuranda.co.uk/product/newport-diesel-heater/

Great start ! Excellent camera work but I guess you both do that for a living - it shows. My wife and I start our journey this Spring so maybe we will see you there ! Follow us on Instagram Sailingintothemystic

What mic 🎤 do you use for talking over your videos thanks rob

We’re lucky to have a posh Sennheiser 416 shotgun mike (gifted to Tim by another filmmaker, Guido Perrini, on one of his projects a few years ago!). We’ve just added a cheap clip-on pop filter to clean out ‘plosives’ from p’s and t’s etc in the narrations. On these first videos (filmed mostly with Canon C200) we also used this 416 as the on-camera top mike together with a Movo WS220 windscreen. This removed wind noise even in strong conditions. We’ve since sold the C200 and several lenses in order to buy the smaller EOS R5 which is easier to film with while sailing. However, the 416 is a too big for this new camera so we switched to the tiny Movo VXR10GY which gives nice sound out of the wind but terrible sound in the wind! So... in terms of gear it’s still a bit of a work in progress!
