Knew a guy for about 30 years. A few years ago I was talking with him about the need for preparation and perhaps putting together a bug-out-bag to make sure his family stays safe. He looked right at me and said, "Why would I need to do that? I got a gun and I'll take whatever sh-t I need from my neighbors." I chuckled. I knew this guy for decades. I stopped laughing when looking at him, he wasn't kidding. He was dead serious. There's a lot of people out there you think you know, who will murder on a dime if things fall apart.

I retired from law enforcement, I had a coworker stocking up on guns and ammo specifically to take from other people. This individual had a family as well. While he would be out trying to steal food from others, his family sits at home with no protection, and he runs the risk of losing his roll to provide for his family by getting injured or killed. That is not a thinking man and there are plenty like him everywhere.

once you go beyond a few handguns and a few rifles(with the intention of extras being back ups), it's really a waste of money. you're just collecting guns to be sold by your family after you depart. get few guns, and get good with them. focus more on survival, bushcraft, tactics, etc. all of that is way more useful than a dozen guns you will need to leave behind when you actually need them

This, 100%. Way too many people live in fantasy land about what SHTF would look like. You're going to be fighting hunger, illness, cold, etc LONG before you're going to put a dent in that ammo stash you've got. People saying things like "you need 10,000 rounds MINIMUM"... I've got bad news for them... if you're in a situation that needs anywhere near that amount of ammo, even over decades, you're screwed.

@Kaltwasser45
@Kaltwasser45 6 месяцев назад
@@westpsmity No offense, but nobody knows. It took 250,000 rounds per kill in Afghanistan. Much ammo can be burned up in suppression, flanking, maneuvering, or even covering fire in retreat to get out of dodge. Guys burn through their loadouts sometimes without anyone getting shot. A lot of it depends on the situation, how close the engagement is etc. Anyone that tells you they know what WROL what look like is flat out lying. The only people that do know are ones that have survived and written about it like in the Balkin wars. What we do know, is if you have a good bit of your basis covered, stack it very deep, because ammo is one of the most valuable resources in a serious SHTF situation. I get what you're saying though, everyone has to figure out what amount works for them. People will be fighting hunger and that's what makes i t dangerous. We've seen people get violent in Katrina and they knew help would be coming. Black Water talked about how many bodies they saw when they arrived from violent clashes, not the hurricane. All I'm saying is you can't wish more ammo in your hand when you run out, you're stuck like Chuck. No harm in sitting on extra and not having to use, that's a damn good thing not to have to, sure as hell beats not having enough though.

For myself, and many others, I live in an urban environment (apartment building) so many aspects of prepping are unavailable to me. I also live in a country where private/civilian firearms ownership is low - which automatically puts anyone with firearms in a much better position. It is because of these two main reasons that I focus many of my preps around firearms... That said, I always try to put back some non perishables and keep some stock of personal hygiene/basic medical supplies. This year I want to focus more on improving my health/fitness. 18% is nothing. Eat less, party less, drink less, go out less and buy buy buy buy buy! Your hardware is useless if you have no mojo go juice for it. What’s more important is not the price is the availability and can you get it. For ever-extra box you have it keeps you alive that much longer and in the game. Nickel and dimming in the trenches over cost can cost you everything. Man up and pony up.

Everyone who commented about how people will truly be if anything were to happen and those people say they would take from even their neighbors isn’t lying. I’ve been all over and this is how the majority of people think. I lived down south and had a neighbor say he would rob the whole neighborhood if anything were to happen. Lived up north and spoke to some people who said they would outright end people to get what they needed even their own family. Having 1,000 rounds for every weapon is ideal, and using old rounds for practice is to. Training,maintaining and repairing is key to that.

Great video as always MD. I do have one small POV difference or something that someone may want to consider. Stock piling a huge amount of ammo, or anything for that matter, may not be the best idea. If you are in a situation like myself, ypur home would more than likely not be your base of operations. Folks living in dense suburbs or urban areas may need to pick up and leave. A mobile load out would be best there. My plan (working on it now under the ridicule of my wife, and financial strain 🤣) is mobile totes of shelf stable foods, tools to build/repair shelter, and hunting/defense provisions. I have 3 kids to help drag it out to the car and get the hell out of dodge. Hopefully I will run into like minded people and we can band together to get through what would be the worst of times.

I have what we called in the military a "packing list" and it basically means we had a load in a vehicle-preferably a trailer where everything had its storage spot such as spare tire with fix a flat and jack-tools we maintained by another list- preload these things-boxes and everything your load plan lists- for your family for example, if you had a trailer, you could use that to load up spare water-food-ammo-parts, propane, spare cloths and shoes-etc and save your vehicle space for battery chargers, can of fuel (trunk or bed with a high quality "jerry can" not plastic except water jugs ok- military type 5-gal and the new 2.5 gallons water containers are easy to store, secure high value items (jewelry, silver, binoculars, weapons, first-aid supplies, shaving kits, food, small toys-fire extinguishers, etc... it works for me and my family loves it when i time them to "pack it up" and dont forget the dog and cat this time :)))

The best argument towards pro gun extra buying , is that old saw: "Don't put all your eggs in one basket"! #1 reason is you may not be in an easy means to reach your and families home base. Officials already clear large areas of all civilians during natural or industrial destrucive zones. Talking of survival where self defense is primary but one is not going to war, and survival range will most likely be 300 yards and under, a perfect distance where even the least expensive AR, AK, SK AND OTHER SEMI AUTOS ABOVE 9 MM, WILL DO AS WELL AS MULTI THOUSANDS DOLLARS OF TRICK PARTS ON BLACK GUNS. An important consideration is type and quality of ammo choices no matter cal chosen. A lot of experts say you have to have latest man killer bullets , but ball ammunition has killed many a millions of peoples. All my 9mm is NATO SPEC AND +P+ NO MATTER BULLET DESIGN. HOPEFULLY ONE WILL NOT BE EXCHANGING FIRE BY BLDY ARMORED PERPS OR THE BIGGEST BADDEST GOV BOOGY MEN, BECAUSE IF Tat case arises none of calibers under 7mm will penetrate.

I recommend 4 guns and a bow at least. A b. rifle capable of stopping an engine, a shot gun, a hand gun, a muzzle loader and bow or cross bow. Then an intermediate cartridge rifle or trappers pistol. Those cover most hunting and trapping seasons. Even silent option. Mad Max wouldn't be much of a movie if people could punch holes in engine blocks.

What my armory lacks is a modern hudson bay smooth bore flintlock trade musket. I understand that black powder can be homemade and a trade musket can shoot anything you can cram down the musket. A set of flints means no primers need. This is not for self defense, but more taking small to medium game and pest control of the garden. For a shotgun, having components and reloading setup could be useful since you can tailor your loads to what you need. I am not sure if you need a 1,000 rounds of rifle ammo, but if you have a .223/5.56 or 7.62x39 considering the price of a case of ammo why not. Buy 1,000 rounds of 30-30 would be a mot more expensive. 9x19 fmj shipped to you before tax can be gotten at under $250 for a case of 1,000. If you have a 24 inch barrel .22 lr bolt action rifle, the CCI quiet loads are about like a pellet gun in noise and the segmented ones will take small game very well. An air rifle with silencer one might consider. For hunting I also have a lot of traps for small game. A silencer on hand for firearms is an NFA item. I suspect in a world without rule of law or at least ATF law, lots of people will be making silencers for .22s. Hoard whiskey and luxury items for trade. Ammo will have some value, but there will a lot more of that around for trade since there is a lot of hoarded ammo on hand. Hoard others things that people really need or want for trade. Staples like salt, pepper, and even sugar that are now cheap will have a lot of value. I am looking into planting a few stalks of sugar cane this spring as an experiment to see if it will grow.

There is a scientific answer to this question. The answer is 3 of each gun for every scenario but in different locations. This means 3 handguns, 3 shotguns, and 3 rifles for a total of 9 guns minimum. 1 handgun, 1 shotgun, and 1 rifle inside the house. 1 handgun, 1 shotgun, and 1 rifle hidden inside a vehicle. 1 handgun, 1 shotgun, and 1 rifle hidden in a secret location AWAY from the house (storage cellar, bunker, buried bug out box, etc). This allows a prepper to be prepared for every possible scenario.

If you're an older woman alone, I can see your head spinning now. I've hunted all my life. A woman just starting out, think about hunting first. 20 gauge shotgun makes an excellent hunting gun. For Ducks, turkey, and most predators . You can get slugs to bring down a deer . And they are affordable . One handgun that you're comfortable with. If you're not comfortable with a handgun, they have came out with a gun that uses something stronger than bear spray . It uses a gas cartridge and will bring down a man for 30 minutes. Enough to get away. I have talked to women who are stressed because they are on a fixed income and widows it's sad, but once they realize after talking to them. That one gun if you practice practice practice practice practice practice can be used for protection and hunting. Shells for your gun is also cheaper and available.

I find the AR is too heavy for me. That being said I unload 3 strand and corn so I’m not “weak” per se. the AK is lighter for me. Shot guns are a great option cause who wants to worry about aiming when fighting for your life.
