Spot on about maintaining what we have rather than buying the latest and greatest, surely Defenders, Perentie and older land rovers are ideal, easy to fix and infinitely rebuildable. 👍
In the uk now The law states steer tyres on a commercial vehicle can be no older than 10 years ,I would imagine on a car /landrover it covers all the wheels as generally there is no difference between front and rear ...I said generally as some cars do use different sizes front and rear ..,,They did a good paint job ,Like anyone who auctions off vehicles ,they do the minimum to them ,In the uk we dont even repaint them you get it how it left it's last unit..Australia is probably like most armies and have a budget ,so replacing tyres on all the vehicles going to auction is not viable ..Really enjoyed your video ,nice to see how the Aussies spec their LandRovers to what we did in the British Army ,spent many a year repairing them in the R.E.M.E . Just sad that they are no longer in production ,they did what they where meant to do..It is in way better condition than anything we sold ,lol
G'day thank you for the video. It is good to see an honest assessment on a Perentie. I am close to retirement and have been dwelling on whether to buy a Perentie or an old Troopy for CSR and out of the way camping. I have owned Landcruisers all my life (and various other shitboxes) and gave my last Troopy to my yougest son 10 year ago and bought a new Dmax. The wife has claimed the Dmax so I need to find a roughish vehicle for camping and general abuse. For me it has to be mechanical injection no electronics...totally simple (I am an electronics engineer....how wierd ehhh!!!). I would love an old Troopy but getting one with no rust these days is very hard.....hence the interest in Perenties. But I struggle to love LandRover.....though I do love Isuzu engines and rate them way above Toyota. Anyhooo this is all blurb...... Thankyou for the great video. Kind Regards Mick Glen Forrest, WA
The Perenties are slow, noisy, full of rattles, hot inside when its hot outside, cold inside when its cold outside, but compared to the old series Land Rovers they are a Cadillac. They will ride better than any old leaf sprung vehicle and a lot of newer coil sprung vehicles. The Isuzu engine is a reliable long lasting light truck engine. Thank you for your thoughts.
We got our one back in 2016 when they were 8-12k max. One thing people see on the online auctions is that the odometer is showing low km's but unless it can be verified with the log book (which some do not even come with) its more than likely it has done far more and that the speedo has just been replaced. And I totally agree about those tyres, i tried telling my dad why they should be replaced and that just because they have tread left does not mean that the tires are still good. I think the standard recommendation is to replace tires 7 years after the build date and michilen i think does say that the xzl's can be replaced after 10 years but that still a long time. I replaced them all with new rims, wheel nuts and 255/85r16's and found that doing that made the speedo basically dead accurate, if not reading 1-2kms under.
You got lucky you got winch on it . The robco ones don't last i brought one it only lasted 12 months i did everything they said to condition the canvas. Really disappointed with it . I have found out the best canvas cost 3.500 grand . God Bless
I don't know what makes you think that, but these are ex-Australian army Land Rovers or what was commonly called a Land Rover Perentie. These being mid 80's models even if they were not a Perentie they are not a Defender model.
@@aztech4x4mechanical You are very right mate, I have checked and indeed the Aussie Landrover Perentie (Defender) was different, available in both 4 x 4 and 6 x 6 configurations and powered by Isuzu engines. My apologies.
