For the people worried about long distances. We here in germany setting the cruise control at 130 mph. So don't worry those cars love it to be kicked hard on the Autobahn. You burn any possible moister or gas out of the oil if you hit your car properly at the Autobahn especially if you spent a lot of time in city driving. For a Diesel its a must here or your pdf will cloacked up.
I always love your videos. I remember an old video you said that your employer passed you up on handling the company youtube because you weren't qualified for the job lol
Yes! They reached out to me a out a year ago for RU-vid advice (my wife still works there). I wrote them a long email on what they needed to do and they STILL didn’t listen 🤣. The company is under new ownership but still just as stubborn as ever.
Just took my 187k mile e90 328i to Orlando from Tennessee. 12 hours of driving (each way) and it did just fine, other than have the lifters tick the whole time (n52 life) I was definitely nervous about that drive. Now I just added an F30 to the garage and it feels like I can take that anywhere. Such a jump from the e90. Safe travels and looking forward to the road trip vlog!
I've heard and been told many times never to use a torque wrench on the oil plug, they're known for stripping if even slightly too tight. Always only make it finger tight, because it will cost heaps of money to fix that problem. But you do you 🙂 just be careful
Kind of unrelated, but what’s your preferred way of jacking the F30 up? I hate using just the puck when doing oil changes on my E90. I tend to drive the car up on stands because it feels safer. I had an accident once just jacking up from one of the sides, luckily nobody and the car were not hurt. Awesome car and video!
You should stop by lake front of New Orleans this Sunday if you are going to be around then. I'd love to see your car haha. Also could kick it and look at everyone's cars by the water.
Hey Justin! It's always a pleasure watching your DYI videos. Have you noticed any oil burning/consumption on your B58, and what millage do you have between oil changes?
BMWs are Deutschland! They are meant to be driven fast and long! Several years ago, I visited Germany and my friend took me on a long road trip from Frankfurt to Hamburg and back down south to Munich and Vienna. On German autobahns, we averaged 120mph to 130mph on the no-limit sections when there was no traffic. Driving 70 or 80mph for a thousand miles from MI to FL is nothing. :)
Life saving tip for your next drain plug oil digging endeavor - a telescopic magnet, great for when you drop a bolt in the engine bay or random stuff like this. Like $5 at harbor freight, a true lifesaver
Good tip! I usually use a drain pan where the oil drains into a reservoir, leaving the drain plug on top but it was full from my last oil change. I have one of those telescoping magnets but didn’t even think to use it 😅
German cars are great on long road trips ... so long as they are less than 100k old. I've popped two engines in German cars, one just around town and the other on a road trip. Really ruined the trip, haha!
Hey Justin my name is Laurie I just recently inherited my son's BMW 330 I and and he tried to put a stereo system in there I think and yes on board accessory up on top it's not turning on could that be a fuse or a wiring problem or is there a way to fix that
hey Justin, i noticed you used to have the GTS OLED style tail lights at one point, but there was no video on installation/review But nowadays i see its back to oem style. What happened??
I had a set to test out but I wasn’t happy with the fitment, specifically the outer part of the tail lights. There was a gap between the light and the body
Yes. As an experiment, I once drained the oil and then lowered the car off the jack stands and only a few extra drops came out. From then on I've always just let it drain in this position
A year later and I still can't believe I have turn signals in my BMW, Thanks for that video Justin!! (And my most liked comment on RU-vid with 4.6k likes)🤣🤣🤣
@@dedan2 The oil filter has it printed on the cap. There was a website called newtis (now shutdown) that had all of the torque specs listed. You can use BMW's official repair site but it's pricey at $30 per day. Forums like BimmerPost also have threads where people have listed out torque specs for most common maintenance items. I've used a Bentley manual as well but it seems they aren't printing them for newer BMW's
