Wanted to get a few powder charges ready for the 77 grain SMKs that I am going to use to make the 745ish yard shot from my 16" AR soon. Figured I'd show off the 2 powders I'm going to test. TAC and the new Staball Match. Got 4 charges of each ready to try and see if there is any noticeable difference between them.
Figured it'd be a good time to show off the Frankford Arsenal powder drop. Got it for myself for my birthday and I'm impressed with it. Bearing on the drum housing let it rotate very, very smoothly. Micro adjuster on the adjustment knob makes changes easy to estimate. If you have any questions or want to see something specific, let me know and I'll make it happen!
Also wanted to show off the benefits of a good scale. I started with the Frankford Arsenal mini scale. Works ok, but you can NOT trickle with it. It's not sensitive enough to do that properly. I show a few examples of how it will jump over. Frustrating to try and trickle with it. I got a more high end scale that can measure to the 2nd decimal. Always better to have more accurate data!!
Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions.
This is a private range. All shooting is done in a safe, controlled environment with no people or dwellings within miles to be at risk.

Hey, wanted to show off a few tools as I'm getting this load worked up. This powder measure is really smooth and pretty consistent so far! And my nicer scale is great to trickle up! These are some of the tools I've upgraded to and had really good luck with. If I missed any details you want to know more about, drop a comment and let me know! I'm happy to address anything you might want to find out more about. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!!

You're welcome! I'm trying to share the things I stumbled thru and found better things. Hopefully can save some other new people a few of the headaches I dealt with. Plus, it's fun and interesting!! Gonna be learning a whole new process when I get into loading for my bolt action. Thanks for checking this one out, I really appreciate you being here all the time! Enjoy your Friday and have a great weekend!!!

That’s does look like a nice powder measure. I’ve just got the basic Lee one. It works, but now I want to upgrade ;)
@ChadKelly7
@ChadKelly7 Год назад
It is really smooth action! I had bad luck with the Lee. I probably just got impatient and didn't fiddle with it enough, like the stamd though! Used it instead of the one Frankford sends with this 🤣 To me, it was worth the upgrade. Gonna test the pistol drum and see if it's better or worse and make another video on that. The bearings are my favorite tho, it's just so smooth!!! Thanks for stopping by and watching! I really appreciate it! See you on the next livestream!! Have a great weekend!

Thanks, Walter! I was going to load these up and realized there were not many videos out on this. To me it's pretty nice. Very smooth. I got a few more things to show off with it, but I wanted to get this one out there. Gonna try the smaller drum and see if it's more or less accurate and report back!! Thanks for stopping by, and I'll see you on tomorrow night's stream!! Fingers crossed, I'll have the big news that my action arrived! We'll see in 22ish hours 🤣 Have a good Friday and great weekend, sir!!

I started reloading with the Lee perfect measure with shotgun loads and pistol loads..... I had enough with the Lee so I upgrade to a FA Intellidropper and never looked back..... Nothing beats that now... I load little bit faster now with the auto feed mode... Great video Chad....

@ChadKelly7 Год назад
Thanks Michael. I'm actually considering getting that next as well. Figure it'd be nice for my next loading project. Might be seeing one of those on my bench soon!! Gotta finish the rifle build and make sure I don't need anything else 1st, then more fun tools!! Thanks for the suggestion, and coming to watch this one. I appreciate you, dude. Have a good Friday and great weekend!!

Thanks, Chris! Getting closer to having this goal achieved. I gotta squeeze in the time to do stuff when I can, but wanting to share all the steps I'm taking to get this 745 yard shot on a 12x20 plate as I go through them. Should be pretty cool when I finally get it hit! It'll be really easy with my new bolt action, but super challenging with the 16" AR, haha. Have a great weekend yourself, and I'll see you on a livestream I'm sure!!

Just curious, you have the AMP annealer but not the AutoTrickler set up?? Annealing with a cheaper machine AKA Annealeze and dispensing powder with the AutoTrickler would have cost you less and been more efficient! You do have some nice equipment and I liked the video. Cheers!!
@ChadKelly7
@ChadKelly7 2 месяца назад
@ragnarrloobrok70 Yeah, I had the opportunity to get some good, high end equipment and made a priority list. AMP type annealer was high for me, mainly because I can automate it. I set it up, then go do some other things around the house while it runs a batch thru with the AmpMate. Saving time is highest on my priority list. I looked at other types of annealers, but since I had the funds and knew the AMP would be most consistent over the long term, I went with this. I have been having good luck with the powder dispenser I got, but one of my next high dollar items will be a more precise version. Seems as soon as 1 hits the market, there is something "better" in development that will release soon 🤣 Super Trickler or AutoTrickler going back and forth with versions when I was looking. I have a few more tools to obtain, and after some early overly eager purchases, I learned to slow down and research more. I am going with buy once, cry once, have it last me forever from now on!! Thank you for checking one of my videos. I am trying to share these things as I get into this and learn from people letting me know other ways to try my process and/or other pieces of gear to look at. I think it has sped up my learning curve a good bit! Appreciate you taking the time! Stay tuned long enough and I am sure you will see a better powder machine on my bench 🤣 Have a great rest of your week!!! Happy July 4th if you are celebrating!

I'm used to seeing guys bump the measure handle a little harder on the up and down strokes. Always seemed to make a difference to me just watching their videos!
@ChadKelly7
@ChadKelly7 Год назад
I have noticed that from some people as well. I think the main thing is just being consistent and having the same stroke and force every time. If ya bump the top hard, keep doing that. If ya hit the stop gentler, just do it that same way every time. It's very smooth internally, so all the powder drops well. I'll give it a try with more force next time and if I notice an improvement, I'll report back!! Thanks for watching! I appreciate it a lot. Hope you have a good Friday and a great weekend!!

Thanks for checking it out! I really like how smooth it is. I actually rounded out one of the screws when I went to swap to the pistol drum, so I cut all that out. Curious if the smaller cavity will be more or less consistent. On the list of things to test as I get time! I kinda don't think the pistol drum really necessary unless you working in the 4 to 10 grain range. But gets plenty close enough to trickle to target I think. Need it to stop raining so I can get to my range and test these out. Interested to see if noticeable difference between the TAC and StaBall Match. I'll find out soon!! Thanks for watching and have a great rest of your weekend!!

@ChadKelly7 Месяц назад
@@garyjohns4711 Ya know, I started this test and then the stuff finally came in I had on order for my PRS rifle. I dove hard into that and have not taken the time to get back to this project!! Final match tomo for the 23/24 season my local group is doing. After this weekend, I plan to get back to this and see how it turns out. I was not very impressed with my first charges I remember. In the meantime, I have got a Xero chrono and better bags, so my next tests should have more accurate data! One way or another, I will find out how it works in my rifle, but I figure I will stick with the TAC between these 2 powders. Will put your other suggestion on my list for future testing!! Thanks for watching one of my videos. I hope to see you around in the future!!

Is that gangster rap in the background?
@ChadKelly7
@ChadKelly7 9 месяцев назад
Don't think it's gangster rap. Just some licensed music from Artlist that has decent beat to it. I try to find things without words tho, but I may have downloaded one with lyrics on accident, lol. I like some older rap that could be gangster rap, but those songs would for sure get my videos flagged 🤣

Is there no adapter to drop from the powder measure directly into a case?
@ChadKelly7
@ChadKelly7 8 месяцев назад
You know, that is a good question! This was my first time using it, so I have not looked for additions to it yet. That tube spins as it dispenses powder, so not sure if an adapter could fit to funnel directly into a case and not be spun around with the tube! I like seeing it in the pan so far, I can verify the charge is correct, then funnel into case or dump back in the hopper if it went over. Had 1 go over by .1 grain, so had to dump it. But when it stopped at the charge I wanted, they were all spot on. I had great SDs in my teat of this ammo. That video went live last night if you want to see! Single digit SDs and low to mid teens ES, so off to a good start on this test!! I hope you have a great 2024 and I hope to see you more on my videos this year!! I have the Redding powder dropper and its not as smooth as I want and occasionally it will stop on a stick powder kernel that I have to push harder on the handle to cut that kernel. Also is not very consistent with stick powders. Have you used any stick powder with this FA powder drop?
@ChadKelly7
@ChadKelly7 6 месяцев назад
Hello, Goran. Thanks for watching one of my videos! I don't have any experience with the Redding, so I can't say how it compares to that, but I can say it is incredibly smoother than the Lee I started with!! I actually ended up picking up the Frankford Intellidropper a few months back and have been using it for my 6 Creedmoor PRS rifle loads. Just getting started on finding a good load I can make myself to use in the local matches I have been participating in. But, I can try some more tests with this dropper and let you know what I think! I was looking and I have the H4350 that I am using for my 6CM and I have a pound of IMR 3031 that I got when I was starting into reloading. I didn't know what to buy, so I picked that up and have never used it 🤣 But I took a look and it's a small stick powder. The H4350 also not a ball, so I could test those 2 powders and get some footage. Might give you an idea how it works with non-ball powders! It seems to have some nice, sharp edges so I think it should be able to cut through the stick types decently. If you want me to give those 2 a try, let me know and I will add that to my videos list and work on putting something together! I have a few things I need to get done today and tomorrow already planned, but if I have time I can try. But, it might be next weekend before I have the extra time to set it up and test them out. I am happy to help if I'm able, so hopefully I can get you some info that will answer your questions!! Thanks again for finding me here, I hope to see you around more videos in the future!! Have a great rest of your weekend!!!

@@ChadKelly7 I have H4350 and its one of the best powders for 6CM and 6.5CM. This exact powder measure also comes with the FA X-10 press that I have an exclusively load 9mm for it and I don't touch it. Its smooth as butter, but the pistol powders are usually fine ball and it measures them super accurate. I was wondering if the FA mechanism will be able to cut the stick powders better then the RCBS and the Redding manual powder droppers. Some other videos that I watched on this FA powder drop say that it will clog and jam with stick powders. It will be intresting to see if its a powder thing or the measure is not good enough for stick powders. Happy reloading!
@ChadKelly7

@jolebole-yt Yeah, I have been having pretty good luck with the 4350 so far. Gonna try and get a few more seated today and test 2 more charges to see which is going to be best in my rifle. I'd really like to have my own ammo for matches. Just realized I only have 2 weeks to get ready for the next one. Hopefully I have time to get it ready!! May do a livestream in a bit to test my new stream set up and seat the 20 projectiles I plan to test. If I can pick a charge weight, then I should be able to size my fire formed brass and have time to make 70-80 for my next match! I can ask my friend what powders he has in his stash. I tend to find something I like and stick with it. Let me know a few names of the worse offenders and I will ask around and try to find some I can run through and test! I really like how smooth it is. They were smart to use it on the X10. I almost got one, but I don't have the space, lol. Knowing me, I will end up with one eventually 😂 I like getting cool gear to use!! I need to get back to making some 9mm soon as well. Thanks for reminding me!! Have a great afternoon!!

@@ChadKelly7 H4350 and Hornady 140gn ELD Match are the perfect duo. I do not shoot matches (no such matches near me), but my Tikka T3x 24in groups them in .25in every day (with Lee dies). For my 6.5CM loads I am using the RCBS ChargeMaster for more consistent drops, but most digital droppers are on the slow side and thats why some people buy 2. I would like to see if I can speed up my powder drops with a manual Powder Dropper, but accurate charges too. My Redding I use sometimes is off by .3 or .5 grains.
@ChadKelly7
@ChadKelly7 6 месяцев назад
@jolebole-yt sounds like you have a great process down giving you very consistent results!! I will give my 4350 a try and see how it works with that. A .3 to .5 variance is too much for my preference as well. It is definitely much faster. As I go further into this, I am finding myself focus on things that can speed up the process and also give good results. I may have to add another electronic dropper at some point 🤣 I was going to do a test livestream an hour ago, but the internet connection was terrible. I didn't want to try a glitchy, jumpy stream. Gonna just have to seat my bullets and run test them tomo. Got my pistol dot mounted today, so will test it tomo as well! My Sunday/Monday weekends are just as busy as my Tuesday thru Saturday work days 🤣🤣 I like to keep busy!! Have a great week!! Hope to talk to you more. I will put a test video together soon as I can with the 4350 I have.
