Prescott AZ - Lynx Creek

Road Trip to Prescott Lynx Creek to do some basic gold panning. This is more of a scouting visit to see what the creek and surrounding area looks like, & it looks like I'll be back for a longer stay. There is gold in the creek and from the looks of some of the dry creek beds leading into lynx creek they look like a good place for more exploration.
Gold panning here is open to the public. Enjoy!

I used to pan Clear creek canyon outside Denver in winter where you would break a hole on the ice. Cold as hell but boy did I have a good time. Great Video man.

Love the videos. I used to live in Arizona and did some prospecting there as a GPAA member. I wish that these so called prospectors going to Lynx Creek would learn to fill in their holes though.

I worked Lynx Cr back in the 60's. That is when you could do some mining. Not like today. Today I just laugh at Forest Service,Park service and all other departments that claim they own every thing. Now you know how the native Americans felt when their land was stolen from them.

If you are a GPAA member, you should know about "snuffer bottles". You also bypassed the best looking spot you filmed. I have panned Lynx Creek many times, exposed root systems specially grassy roots are very good places to take material from. Also, not looking in the spots that everybody and their brother has looked in for the past 50 years. The best spot was the one by the tree where the gravels were like compacted on top of the bedrock. I found lots of gold in a place that looked exactly like that.

The biggest nugget was breadbasket size. Under the 89 overpass 1000 yards from the VA hospital. It sat in first national Bank for years. Back then it was only a $50k appraisal. Today millions......

Now when I was there back in 1994. I met another guy that ever week end he would spend all day cravising.and he was doing pretty dam good back then.I didn't come out rich, but I wasn't broke when I left.Oh yeah now In the claims guide there is a claim south of Lynx I work. didn't do to good at the time but I have learned a lot since then and this Claim had quart vain coming out of the rock like mad.and I have been wanting to get back up there. this place has water yr round and nice camping spot

I disagree with you Tim. I find it easy to recover gold with a pan, even a gravity trap pan. Panning is a lot of work with small amount of recovery unless you hit a really nice spot. I find it to be a relaxing way to spend a day. Panning for gold is much easier when you properly classify the material, stratify, and use proper methods for panning. All prospectors have their own favorite way to find some color. Sometimes it is more about the adventure or spending time with friends and family.

I heard that too, and around the same time that I was there. It was probably a different claim. I'm thinking of spending more time detecting some of the banks with a better detector. I still had a great time! What a cool place.

Wow! Thanks for letting me know. All of the printed material I researched prior to going stated gold panning only. I even had my detector with me! This happened in Florida too. Some national Parks along the Shore said detecting below the high tide mark only is OK and 10 miles down the road officials would confiscate your detector & your car if you where caught.

Your right! I noticed some pretty deep holes that where dug along the banks of the creek. Anyone going through the trouble of digging that deep must be finding gold. I will dig & detect next time I'm up! Happy Hunting. Also Lucky Linda was sold to a private club, but just about a mile north, on the east side of Rich hill there's gold to be found using a dry washer. Still alot of work though. TJ. TJ.

Oh I figured so! It sure looked like alot of work. I did check out around the bottom just above the solid rock. Panned some dirt from there too and it yielded some small flakes. No that I know that metal detectors can be used there, I'll check those holes out again. For the flood gold I may try more gravel. Thanks TJ

Found gold up a bit north of Lucky Linda, on another claim, but found it only with a dry washer. The metal detector only found old relics and lead - as in your case. From what I heard - Lucky Linda claim is not owned by GPAA any more. They sold it to a private club. Good luck. TJ

I swept the Lucky Linda with a Minelab SD2200 v2 last year. In two full days of detecting, I pulled out about 17.2 million rifle slugs and an equal number of birdshot, but no gold. I did find a small piece of gravel in Lynx Creek that had a small wire of gold running through it. Not exactly enough to retire on.
@frankroberts9320
@frankroberts9320 11 лет назад
Two days after my trip to Lucky Linda, I was in Searchlight, NV. At dusk, I used my custom broadband UV lamp to search for fluorescents in the many acres of gold mine tailings around Searchlight. There was a surprising variety of color, including one site marked by unusual colors. I filled two buckets and brought them home to discover that every specimen of one particular fluorescent color contained visible wires and flakes of gold. This fluorescence is a marker for missed gold!

You can use a metal detector at Lynx Creek although detectors do not help because the gold is deep. There is still a lot of gold in Lynx, but it takes a lot effort and patience. I am working my concentrate buckets from Lynx and I am recovering a lot of fines, flakes, and I have taken many of the pickers out already yet there are a few. Lynx is spotty meaning there are hot spots and cold spots, but I never get totally skunked at Lynx because I always find gold. Ah the many lives of the Lynx.

Hello. Thankyou for the video! I apologize for the randomness of this question. But I am going to come go to lynx creek from Idaho in search of gold! I’ve watched lots of videos and am excited! But I am struggling to find a link or picture of the recreational panning areas. Also, I was hoping to camp for the 6 days I will be there. But everything I ready says day use only. Is there a place within the recreational panning area that I can camp for 5-6 consecutive days? Again, sorry for the brain dump and questions. Thanks you for whatever you can tell me!

There's a campground right next to the creek where this video was shot. One campground has nice paved roads & camp spots another just south of the main one is rough. I just went onto google maps and followed the creek to see where the camping spots are. I hear that in town there's a good spot to pan, but never have been there. You are mistaken about whats pretty good for Lynx creek. I have taken nuggets and pickers out of Lynx. You are only scratching the surface. Before you can get the larger gold in Lynx you have to be 2 to 3 feet down in a good spot. You are also probably washing your gold out of the pan because gravity trap pans do not prevent gold from being washed back into the creek. I was panning at home when I realized I was washing out my gold back into the tub. It is very hard to recovery gold with a pan.

Appreciate you sharing the information. i am really interested in prospecting but apparently there can be a lot of restrictions,who do you contact to see what type of prospecting your permitted to do in any given area,if it's permitted at all?
@take1creations-treasure
@take1creations-treasure 9 лет назад
I have contacted the property owners or the park rangers personally. I try to get names as well as check their website for any restrictions. In Florida, in the Keys, 2 parks only about 5 miles apart had totally different rules. One was detect only below the high water mark and not in the water, and the 2nd was detect only in the water or wet sand. Strange, but ok. If your join the GPAA they have a claim book that can help answer questions as well as members with personal knowledge. Local metal detecting clubs always welcome new members and can give you useful information. You can then prospect with a group, witch is more fun anyway. Thanks for commenting. Good Luck! TJ.
@13orangeleaf
@13orangeleaf 9 лет назад
Thanks TJ. I fish a lot,and i realized from listening to prospectors out there that in some area's there are restrictions and those restrictions can vary from one location to another. Also by listening to other prospectors share things that may help one to locate gold,such as certain rocks or quartz,types of bends in the river or streams,big rocks that may settle gold behind or underneath them,certain landscapes, all sorts of things,but while fishing i have seen most of these things and never gave it a thought.I will find a club locally hopefully, and get the information i need. i dont want to invest money into equipment just to find out that i can not use it,or have to drive a few hours to a place that i can. Thanks again !
