Next thing I'll be adding to my 15 module 100m and scooper will be the 555. That'll be like having 2 x 165's + 2 x 150's and more. Also looking forward to the Behringer ones, which are more like the originals. More basic than the Malekko Rolands but tempting, as they may be cheaper than even some Doepfer gear! Makes it a tough choice though. I'm wondering if Roland are releasing a 182 sequencer in the 500. Behringers if released looks like a small 182. Both have to compete with Intellijels big Metropolis though, which is a souped up 185----the latter being an extremely rare imitation Roland seq with different design to the 182. For the ultimate 100m type setup add all the 500's and a metro to a frequency central filter to get a 12db filter option too!

In the end jam, I'm assuming the SH-01 is supplying the sequence? Or is the sequence generating from somewhere else?
@DavidAhlund
@DavidAhlund 6 лет назад
Yes! The sequence is from the SH-01A, but the SH is being rhythmically triggered from the TR-8S's trigger output.

guys, be aware that the 510 & 531 modules have a depth of 128.5mm (5-1/16 inches) which is very tall compared to other modules. This eventually stopped me from buying the 510. I got a 512 instead since that's only 58mm. Not sure why Roland made this choice... maybe just so they can sell there own cases along with it as well, since theirs is one of the only ones that can fit modules that are that tall..
@Helixnl
@Helixnl 6 лет назад
Depth of the new modules: SYSTEM-500 531 - 129mm SYSTEM-500 510 - 129mm SYSTEM-500 555 - 129mm SYSTEM-500 505 - 57mm Depth of the old modules: SYSTEM-500 530 - 58mm SYSTEM-500 512 - 58mm SYSTEM-500 521 - 58mm SYSTEM-500 540 - 58mm SYSTEM-500 572 - 58mm Standard Doepfer Case: Max 90 - 110mm per module
@DavidAhlund
@DavidAhlund 6 лет назад
129mm is the height, not the depth. The depth is similar to the old ones. I have mine in a Doepfer case with plenty of space left. There's a misprint on the site.

David Åhlund lol OK, that's odd. Thanks for clearing that up :).

I want this but it is EXPENSIVE so the cheaper smaller JP-08 is probably more affordable to me.
@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823
This is why Guitar Center has interest-free, 30 year "mortgages." lol. It's not THAT bad. You're a grown man. :) This is like 2 grand list. No problem. Someone will have one open box or eBay. And I have Roland stuff that's 20+ years old. Assuming you're not stupid, it'll work flawlessly the whole time.
@saintnicholas5507
@saintnicholas5507 6 лет назад
Awe Roland! Dam. Bit pricey for me but dam
@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823
Yes, they are NOT CHEAP. But they are among the best-sounding of the bunch. I've had their V-drums (TD-12s) and Xp-series (the big 80 and the smaller one) since 1997. They all still work great after 20+ years. In that time, a removable power cord may need a power supply and cleaning. Non-removable cord, just a pro cleaning. You can't be stupid. tho. The keys will snap if you're not smart enough to realize that *playing harder doesn't make an electronic piece any LOUDER.* That's why God gave you volume controls. I've never broken one key. Then, I take it seriously and learn how to treat stuff. I've broken one drum stick and no heads in 13 years playing real drums, either. If you treat it well, this won't be an issue. Not bad for its age. I've got stuff way better made internally than Roland that needed work at 10 years (Harmon-Kardon tuner). Roland isn't attractive inside to dorks, but still works, still sounds great, so THERE. :) I think I got my money's worth, big time.

Yes, cool indeed but how nice to actually play and have those sounds triggered by your fingers. Can forsee some blazing or moody solos coming to life.

Mmmmh, I have always, since the Jupiter’s, found I have to work hard to get a good sound from Roland gear. The oscillators seem too clinical to me. They do suit techno very well but I have found that external processing is a must. In my most humble opinion.

Is it a bug or a feature for PWM to introduce DC offset like that?
@HazeAnderson
@HazeAnderson 6 лет назад
If no extra charge in price then is bug. If extra charge then is feature. 😏
@synthsocialist
@synthsocialist 6 лет назад
It may be a feature of how the oscilloscope is triggered. If its set to AC coupling, the display tends to do this. I doubt that an actual DC offset is being generated.
@burakeren
@burakeren 6 лет назад
Actually if you do not move the center like that it will introduce DC offset, since the area between wave and over and under part will be different. For no DC offset the amount of areas should be same. Altough i dont know the reason here is because of scope or this is just the behaviour of circuit.
@nicholasroos3627
@nicholasroos3627 6 лет назад
Perhaps. I have little knowledge of the software being used. Seems from the icon on-screen that it is just triggering from a rising edge.
@synthsocialist
@synthsocialist 6 лет назад
I mean strictly speaking there is always a DC component with a pulse wave (due to how we define DC) but what I really mean is that an additional DC offset isn't added by varying pulse width, the scope does trigger on an edge but you can couple the inputs in such a way that they remove the DC component and try to center the wave so that there is the same area under the X-axis (or time axis in this case) In either case I would be 99% sure that the PW control doesn't add additonal DC components due to how pulse waves are usually generated in VCOs :)

@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823
I bluntly like the idea of NEVER needing another PITA musician, myself. A lot are arrogant, a number cancel band practice at the last minute, many are bad at freeform jams (ie, "just play"*)...yeah...I say if I can do the whole thing by myself and add real music later or live...sign me up. *kind of like people in a car or birds or schools of fish, Some intelligence will tell you what to play with others without too much thought. I know zero about music theory and one managed fine, even playing bass (just play 4 notes) or keyboards. Work by sound and if you make a mistake, so what?

It doesn't matter what You got for 300 pounds .. behringer makes only cheap chinesee copies of classics using the same design, this is shame. They makes copies since early 90s. Check Behringer's history - only cheap copies of good studio and dj hardware. And they are still going this way.
@kanji_nakamoto
@kanji_nakamoto 6 лет назад
Behringer released the Neutron (original); They also create their own components that are sold for other big names in the industry (you'd be surprised that the biggest companies buy from them - DSI, Roland and Elektron trust Coolaudio to use their chips within their products; who owns Coolaudio is Behringer); Roland also released a Model D clone, the SE02 that I've tried at the studio, but I own the Model D, has better knobs, etc - Korg also released clones, for example I own the Korg ARP Odissey (Behringer already shared their prototype that has a better build, and also the potential to sound equivalent or better); I still have a Behringer 1222fx (fully working) from that time (from the time, people were openely racist towards Chinese people in general, and the society thought it's ok to say it's shit just because it's made in China, when there's Cheap and Expensive Chinese products), where everyone used to diss, but now Behringer is a monster, and unless you can do better, there are no arguments against them; Recently the Akai (inMusic era) has released the MPC Live/X which I own, I've never seen so many reports of malfunction equipment in my all life (apart from Samsung Note, that the company released a public statement and ackownledged) . There's a 200+ page thread in GearSlutz forum/community just about the Behringer Model D, you can read from Uli himself, see from one of the top industry synth heads in the game, from synth enthusiasts and mods who opened the Model D and inspected the components, and there's no argument against Behringer there. I don't know if you are into electronics, but the teams there have decades of knowledge and networking in the industry. For the rest of us, we should do music, be as creative as we can and in the end, Behringer is allowing the poor to own a Minimoog for a fair price and not your kidney. They also fully support Research and Development, have a an engineering team in Manchester that comes up with this and other future products, they are also humble enough to showcase prototypes in very early stages to get feedback (they also interact with customers and listen), there's high demand to bring this legendary machines and it's completely legal to do and there's also demand check the biggest synth or music production forums! *don't think I'm stingy or cheap, I own very expensive equipment that I buy based on its capabilities, for example the DSI Prophet etc
@kanji_nakamoto
@kanji_nakamoto 6 лет назад
To conclude, Tesla has given away it's tech, it's in the public domain, which is great! In the other hand, and different industry, the patent industry stall the synth manufacturer industry for too long, this legendary synth machines designs or patents have now expired, Behringer is not making exact copies, they have their own engineering team and expertise that bring this to life, when no one else cares! Behringer is bringing it to life, by the same signal flow principals and 2018 expertise and cheaper because of automation, robots and not slave labour! Also have in mind that the synths electronic parts and components we know about were made in China since forever and only assembled in US and EU.

Sounds overly clinical and lacks that genuine juicy warmth found in vintage stuff/better companies using all discrete design like AJH, as do most of Malekko's modules. Not bad, but that extra something special is missing. It's almost like someone listened to a bunch of Roland SH gear videos and sound, then made their own design based on trying to mimic it from different parts/circuits. Which is probably somewhat what happened.
@lookingforamuse
@lookingforamuse 6 лет назад
They are made in conjunction with Malekko so that throws that theory out the window.
