I largely don't give a shit, as a Kiwi I see Top Gun Maverick as the best movie I have seen in years. I can't even begin to understand why Tom Cruise was not at least nominated for best actor, I guess this movie is too mainstream to be nominated, aka no one has the balls to do it.

@@Battleneter I loved Top Gun, both actually, but tom cruise is not an outstanding actor. He is good, and he's landed a lot of famous roles, but his style of acting has been the same since oblivion. When there're awards for "Most Entertaining" or "Best stunts by lead actor", he'll get them. Until then, you're going to have to live with the fact that some of the actually good actors might be a bit... "Woke".

And the Oscars have recently praised Everything Everywhere All At Once which was not only entertaining, but one of the most original and creative movies I’ve seen in years. And they have given Tom Cruise nominations before and have given him his Best Picture nomination for Maverick since he was a producer in that movie. Tom Cruise was good in the movie, but his performance wasn’t Oscar worthy.

And their ratings are at all-time lows. Time to put the Oscars out of its misery.

And only 1 Oscar for Top Gun. It was the best picture. Not one person told me they watched EEAAO 7x in an IMAX theater.

In recent years America's favorites were infantile Marvel movies or some other similar shite about superheroes flying around in capes and tights, throwing buildings around. But they didn't win an Oscar for best picture.

Honestly i am not qualified to say these but "All quiet on the western front " is fucking good movie and i think it will win. Not only because it's a war movie or it's socially relevant or anything. They did a good job on the screenplay and also on the plot too. Believe me TPG shouldn't even be on the best picture nominee. I don't know if it is a big deal for Americans or something, idk but when i watched it it was just another typical movie . I read the screenplay and it was just ok . I am not trying to say it's not a good movie . But TPG isn't worth enough to be nominated

i think it is close though. that’s why it’s interesting. Michelle should win but i openly acknowledge that Cate’s performance is one of the best i have ever seen her or anyone give. that is why the Actress race is so compelling this year, there are multiple deserving nominees. all races should be nail biters! it’s so much more fun than watching a single actor sweep all season. i’m rooting for Yeoh but i won’t be disappointed if Blanchett wins either. i am disappointed that Deadwyler didn’t receive a nom for Till despite being a sure thing all season and hitting all the precursors. her performance in Till is staggering. but anyway, given that Blanchett is leading the betting odds by a significant margin the winner for this category is anything but a sure thing. let’s hope Michelle pulls through.

I would say Tom Cruise destroyed Michelle Yeoh in 2022 via Top Gun Maverick, but the Oscars are now too afraid to even nominate such a mainstream actor, the Oscars have become a bit of a woke joke.

@@sweetbitter2NO! I like AQOTWF, it’s a striking war movie but it’s by no means original or deserving of the prize. EEAAO, The Fabelmans, Top Gun, The Banshees of Inisherin, Avatar: TWOW and Elvis all deserve it over it (I haven’t seen Women Talking and Tàr). Still, I say this with a lot of respect and appreciate for AQOTWF.

@@nic..1 EEAAO was a great, creative, and imaginative movie! I love The Fablemans too, it was technical & well-directed. I love the last scene & the last shot of the movie. I personally didn’t like Banshees lol. It’s my least favorite movie in the whole category, well maybe above Triangle of Sadness.

Original take? There have been countless musical icon biopics over the last 30 years. Jamie Foxx won Best Actor for his Ray Charles performance. Rami Malek won Best Actor for his Freddie Mercury performance. Musical icon performances are the most unoriginal, Oscar bait performances.

@Mister X I’m rooting for Fraser, but look at the stats. There hasn’t been a Best Actor winner whose movie wasn’t nominated for Best Picture since Jeff Bridges when he won Best Actor for Crazy Heart back in 2010. The fact that The Whale wasn’t nominated for Best Picture or Best Adapted Screenplay really hurts his chances. I’m not saying he can’t win, it’s just statistically an uphill battle. If you look at past Oscar ceremonies, majority of the time the best actor winner stars in a film that was nominated for best picture. The only thing that hurts Butler is that he’s considered reasonably young for a best actor winner. That being said, Elvis is the most nominated movie behind EEAAO and Banshees, and he’s portraying an icon that older Oscar voters adore 🤷‍♂️ The Oscars just love Elvis way more than they do The Whale

@@Themarvelnerd2016 Many were shot practically, many were not. You really think the opening was practical? Or those dogfights. There are some really hard to spot CGI in the movie. Remember stealing that jet plane from the hanger and spreading it's wings - complete CGI. It's the marketing's fault visual effects artists works was denied of the spot because there are some excellent visual effects in the movie. Too bad it doesn't stand a chance at winning this year's Best Visual Effects.
