20 miles west of San Antonio on the Medina River, Castroville was established in 1844. Called the “little Alsace of Texas”, Castroville’s preserved and new buildings alike pay homage to the architecture of the French-German settlers who pioneered here almost 200 years ago.

I've passed through Castroville numerous times but wish I could've stopped and explored the history.

As a German I was looking at the houses and thought "what's so special" before I realized what's normal here is not normal in Texas. Thanks for the video, I didn't know there were actual architectural examples of the German settlers.

Great video Scott! You may becoming the next Ray Miller and Ron Stone (“The Eyes of Texas”) a KPRC Channel 2 Houston TV series from 1969 - 1999 chronicling the gems of Texas!

Great video. I never realized Castroville had such a rich history. Thanks for the lesson about the masonry houses. I learned something new today. 🙂

Les miens aussi. Famille Murré-Bruder et bien avant , Murré-Dietemann. Originaire du bassin potassique alsacien, où toute la famille française habite encore.

Nice video. I recommend visitors go to Dziuks meat market in town. Try the Alsatian style sausage. Been awhile since I lived in the area. Neat place. Just got back from a trip in Strasbourg France. They talk about Castroville as if they have been there.

We have European style buildings in Texas of all places?! I had no idea! Im a big fan of the more walkable condense infrastructure of E.U. I hate how large and sprawling our roads and parking lots are in the States.
