**As long as you use the plain Boric Acid and don't use the "Ant & Roach Killer" versions, your solution should be non-toxic. **The Boric Acid / Borax Solution should not be re-used as it will be saturated with sugar from the bamboo culms. {However...IF you are a serious chemist and know how to calculate and balance the sodium levels and other compounds in the used solution; you can revive the "syrup" solution and use it for round two....and Good Luck with That ! } **ONLY cut the amount of bamboo culms that CAN BE processed AND preserved in 24 hours ! Any culms cut and not preserved in under 24 hours WILL rot or be infested by insects. (-You will use up all your curse words in the months following.) Alternate preserving methods might save some old cut culms; but don't depend on it. By weight I use: 1.5 KG Boric Acid, 1.5 KG Borax, 30 Litres Water. Seriously enjoying your vids; still laughing at the "air layering bamboo" mulching tips ! 😸

I have bamboo growing in my backyard do I need to use this solution? I just want to cut them from the backyard an plant them in the front like make a fence around my porch. Should I use the solution. For that or just cut them an put them around the perimeter of my porch?

@@rickeya991 Boron treatments are unsuitable for in ground use as the wet soil will leach out the boron salts and then the unprotected bamboo will rot.

In Bangladesh, we have naturally grown bamboo orchards in every village which is part of our local culture, traditions, and folklore. Just in front my village home, we own a bamboo plantation. Until recently I used to think bamboo economically less profitable and wanted to switch to so-called profitable agriculture. Your videos changed my outlook and now I am planning to make a house made with bamboos.

Awesome bro! I love this method. My bamboo wasn't treated in the first day and so capillary action was out. I don't have a compressor so pressure treating is out. I don't have a bathtub to put boiling water in, so that's out. This method is perfect, or at least the best option I got. Appreciate the helping ideas on bamboo.. - Jordan from the Philippines

Bamboo grows easily over here on the east coast.. I bought a piece of property with a large section of bamboo and appreciate all these videos to give me the skills to utilize my bamboo! Don’t try burning bamboo to preserve it!

I found that used car oil works well in treating bamboo Try it may self just a few months ago for my new chiken house and rabit cages.

Where I live, yellow bambu us more plentiful. I love the colour, too. Does the vertical treatment mentioned here, conserve the colour as well?

Most bamboo dries yellow. THE VSD on this bamboo turned it a nice rich shade of yellow, much nicer than the untreated ones.

How are you planning on bending it? I generally good idea to treat first then bend. Have you heard of bamboo lidi. Its a technique they use in Bali.

Fresh cut is best. 24 hrs after cut. No more than 48 hrs.

how does coating with an oil or wood water sealant compare to treating with boric acid for longevity?

That seals the outside and keeps the outside looking pretty but the bugs are eating the fibers on the inside, which need treatment woth boric acid/borax or heat or soaking in salt water.

It has to dry out otherwise it cracks and shrinks

@@HomesteadinHawaii could it not dry out while in-place within the construction? Or does the shrinkage mean that joints will become loose, or poles will crack if the joints are fixed? I'm just planning to lash the bamboo together with ropes, so if they become loose I figure I can just tighten them again. It's also not going to be a big structure - more of a shed. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge!

I have a question about propagating bamboo from shoots when I cut the shoots and put them in potting soil they will sprout maybe to about 1 foot or so and then the sometimes , die am I over watering? Thanks

Theoretically yes. You can try leaving it in there indefinitely and the water will just rot it out, but if you are talking an extra week or a month, you'll be fine, it may just soak up all of the solution if you don't check on it.

Yes, but salt water is not as reliable as the borax solution

@@HomesteadinHawaii I've seen guys add salt to the borax solution too. In Hawaii they used to float in the lumber from the bay. The wood would stay in the sea water for a while. I heard there are houses that are 100 years old and the termite haven't destroyed them yet. The wood will get furry sometimes and I heard it was really hard

Greetings. Follow up Question: 1. I watched one of your videos "How to Preserve Bamboo: Including DIY Boucheire Method", namely the Bucket preservation method, how is it compared to Vertical Soak Diffusion method, I ask for I need my bamboo to be quite long but my rebar is short, and that funds are very limited that I cannot buy a rebar. 2. About drying and bending: I wish my bamboo to straight as possible, do I wait for it to dry before bending it with a torch or is it better that I bend it while it is still not dry. Is there a way to dry the bamboo faster than 2 to months. Many thanks.

For drying, its best to wait. It only shrinks if you don't. Vsd is the best method or soaking. You can heat treat too at the same time you straighten. I saw a woman use a torch and a couple well place posts to heat and straighten. It was very effective. I just try and find straight poles or work with irregularities
