Thank you for respecting your daughter’s wish not to eat meat! Hate to hear children who are forced to do things that doesn’t sit right with them ethically
@@sarahpauline4904 how in the world do you see her statement as hateful? If anything, your "good for you don't be hateful" remark is condescending/hateful...might wanna take a good look in the mirror. 🙄
always loving my Sunday morning with Jessica and her crew!!!!! Have a happy home church day Jessica!! thanks for being authentic and open with all of us!!!!! xoxox
This challenge has really shifted how I think about how to preserve smaller batches and just doing what I can consistently rather than feeling pressure to do huge projects or nothing at all. Still love my big batch days but I’ve gotten so much done even on days I work or can’t be at home all day. Thank you!
You sound so much like my own mother. Her focus was feeding her 13 children. We preserved everything. Our table always look like a banquet for a king. There I was on the bench beside my daddy. He sat on one end of table and my mommy on the other side next to daddy. On the memories are flowing. T u for sharing your precious family with us!!
Swinging the chard like a bat, boys can turn anything into a sport 😋 and the girls practicing their back flips takes me back to my childhood with my sister. You have a lovely family. I have some peach pits in the fridge. They aren’t enough to bother with jelly but I figured I could find a use for them so I think I will start some peach pit vinegar. Thanks for the idea!
Just what I need to finish off my weekend. I love that your videos come Sunday night. I end the week positively rather than thinking about all the things I have to do this week. You are a blessing.
My grandmother taught me to take my green tomatoes and wrap them in newspaper and put them in a paper bag. She said put the bag in a cool space like a basement or someplace in your house it’s cool and then in the winter time when you want a fresh tomato you will have one. They will write them in the paper bag with the newspaper on them. My friends and girls thought that was really cool because they were so surprised that we could have fresh tomatoes in the middle of winter. I love watching your channel it’s very
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Hi Jessica, great video, thank you so much for tagging us along and the editing must of taken you a long time. I'm glad the challenge is over for you because you look really tired. Your kiddo's are adorable as well Jessica and you must feel blessed to have them
You keep things progressing very well & organized with a large family! I ❤️ the way you incorporate such healthy foods into everyone's diet with all of the allergies.
You are the nicest way to begin my week. Every Sunday morn I have my coffee with you. What a joy to see you and your family and learn something. Thank you for taking the time. I’m so happy to see your pregnancy progressing so beautifully. God bless.
Always enjoy your videos. Your #everybitcounts collaboration was wonderful. It introduced me to so many great RU-vidrs and taught me some terrific things about saving, storing and generally just not wasting food. I have been on a mission lately to better manage my food and the collab was a great boost. I even bought a food dehydrator! I don't love spending time in the kitchen but - in the last month I have dried bread for breadcrumbs, made pie filling from apples and cherries that needed to be used, cooked down some extra tomatoes for sauce, used my freezer to save leftover lemons, grapes and milk, dried orange and lemons peels and the skin of apples and peaches for tea, saved seeds from flowers and vegetable plants and dried herbs. My next experiments will be making refrigerator pickles, dehydrating some hot peppers that I got from a buy nothing group and making pesto., dehydrating some tomatoes from the farmers market and using the dehydrator to make zucchini chips. I'm on a roll. Thanks for the inspiration.
The freezers weren't as messy as I was expecting. I have so much trouble keeping our one big deep freeze as organised as possible. Milk crates are my best friend in there. What a beautiful accomplishment having so much home raised, well loved protein in your freezers . Thank you for sharing lovely 💚
Good morning, I have enjoyed this challenge this year. I wasn’t able to preserve every day, but still have managed a lot of items for my pantry! Also have found some interesting channels to follow.❤️
Very healthy attitude about not treating livestock as pets. Your mixed fruit sauce sounds yummy. All of your hard work will pay off , especially when the new baby comes 🤗🍃🍂🍁🍎🍏☕💗✝
Yes, it is sad. But even our Lord had heifer’s slaughtered for his people. It’s one of the circles of life. And I have no doubt you take very good care of your cows. Heck, even catching a fish can be emotional! The fight they put up for life causes me anxiety. But you eventually do get over it. I think our Lord wants you to feel for life, to understand life is precious. And precious enough to save yours and ours lives knowing the respect you get for the things we need to live. Respect all life….
So glad you showed the meat side of preservation. We raise our own meat too, and it's an important part of homesteading. Great work with this challenge.
We tried raising a beef cow. I was at work when the guy came to slaughter. I could never eat a bite of it and ,about 30 years later I still feel guilty. Safeway for me I'm way, way too tender hearted
I made pineapple vinegar but it didn’t make a mother And I was not informed it needed to breathe once I put it on the shelf after straining it off! Duh of course it still is fermenting It’s got a nice layer of scum kinda stuff (not moldy or green or smelly) so I hope that’s my mother starting! I’ll go put coffee filters on my bottles. Thx
We are having a cow processed in 2 months. It's raised by someone we know as we live in town. But my freezers look just like yours so I have been busy busy canning and not putting any of our garden in the freezer so we can make room. It's time fir a freezer challenge here!!!

I DO SO ENJOY YOUR VIDEOS. I LEARN SO MUCH. I AM TOO OLD NOW TO DO CANNING/FREEZING FOOD, BUT I STILL LOVE TO SEE OTHERS DOING SO. BE SURE TO WRITE DOWN HOW/WHAT YOU ARE DOING FOR YOUR CHILDREN WHEN THEY DECIDE TO START IN THEIR OWN LIVES.
Great video. Just something to consider that may make loading easier in the future, is to allow the animal access to the alleyway. Also, feed her in the trailer for a few days before you need to get her loaded. This can help desensitize them and can make the whole process easier.
I looked at the price for that salmon one fillet is 80 dollars I couldn't afford that my husband loves salmon we don't make alot of money but I been doing this for 3 years I'm no where stocked up somethings we just can't afford
Your food always looks so yummy! Thankyou! As a school project for one of the children you should get them to make a cook book of your ideas and sell it!
I try to use something up or preserve something each day. At the moment, I have yellow summer squash in the dehydrator. In the last week, I've used up leftovers by recycling them into different meals, dehydrated citrus peels to use in simmer pots this winter, and dehydrated fresh ginger root. I also found a really good sale on ground beef and busted it down into small 3/4 to 1 pound packages (depending on what I am going to use it for). Next up is to dehydrate some cabbage and then some potatoes. I also have a bunch of green onions to use up and two tomatoes to use before they go bad. We are a family of 7 with a pack of dogs and some cats, so nothing here goes to waste either. We recycyle old clothes into cleaning rags and we plan to start making rugs from them as well. We use everything until there is no other uses left for them and then they finally get thrown away.
Love watching your videos Jessica, you are such a motivator. I really enjoy seeing how you take advantage of everything you have and nothing goes to waste. I pray blessings over you and your family and I thank you so much for sharing your preservation tips!!!
Hi Jessica, i am watching from the Netherlands all you video's. Thank you for sharing your way of living with us. May i ask you what kind of jars you use for canning? Do you have a link of the branche maybe? Thank in advance. Have a nice sunday.
You are so full of knowledge of nutrition and food preservation. I am 70 and I learn something new every time I watch your videos. Thank you for sharing! I love your sweet voice.
Does your family like saurkraut? Those pork bones would make AWESOME saurkraut "soup" something my mother always made and now so do I. Boil up those pork bones with a chopped onion and some celery and bay leaves and add saurkraut and make a soup. I boil potatoes on the side and put this saurkraut on top. So yummy!
Wild caught you could always can your salmon and it’ll take away some of the bulk in your freezer and it will be shelf stable I add a little bit of liquid smoke to mine just for the flavor works wonderful
Jessica, this challenge has really helped me to effectively use the produce coming from my garden as well as using what I've found at local produce markets, farm stands and the farmer's market. I've been picking cucumbers from my garden and slicing them for my lunch. One of my students (non-verbal with autism) has been loving eating my cucumbers every day at lunchtime. I figure cucumbers aren't nearly as bad for him as chips or soda or pastries! I'm also working on clearing space in my freezers as I have another 1/2 cow arriving at the end of the month. I figure that I really need to make oatmeal cookies with my students to get some frozen oats out of the freezer. A year ago, I bought 50#, which got repackaged into gallon bags. Then I went back to work at a job where the commute is too far for me to eat oatmeal daily. I'm guessing that if we don't add raisins, the boys would eat oatmeal cookies. Since I teach a class of kiddos on the spectrum, we have a LOT of food aversions. If they cook the item, they are more likely to eat the item. Last week we made chocolate cupcakes from scratch. The staff were impressed that they didn't come from a mix. I even taught my good friend how to water bath can pickles so they didn't turn into mashed cucumber. I have enough dried herbs to cook for the next six months and somewhat of a supply of tomato sauce and pickles. I'm hopeful that I can get my tomatoes to produce enough for a couple more batches of sauce before the season is over. I've frozen a couple batches of stuffed peppers, and I'm going to try to use up the rest of the stew meat by canning homemade stew for the shelf for the winter. Good luck finding space in your freezers for the packaged cow.
I can raised chickens to harvest for food, but we have to have someone else raise our beef and pork. I would be a maniac. I completely understand your daughter's feelings, bless her soft heart!!!!!! I tell everyone, when our cow and pig come to our house they come in white packaging!!!!! Everyone understands!!! You have such a sweet family. Any idea what baby #10 is going to be????? Have y'all started thinking of names???
If you put the cow in the alley overnight so it could satisfy its curiosity, would it move along easier? I use roasted pork bone broth to make bean soup with lots of herbs. Hamm’s Fifteen Bean comes with a seasoning packet. Interesting video. Thanks. 🤗
My vinegar project last year didn’t work out and I am trying to figure out why. Where do you put the mother after you strain the liquid? Last year I put it back in and I am thinking that was a mistake. It started to smell foul after a month…
You are such an inspiration to me. I am experienced food preservationalist, but every time I see your work, I learn many new things. Thank you so much for sharing your life and being my star.
Jessica thank you for the motivation to get something stored away, everyday. You are a blessing. I stuck with it, and I am trying to do more into September, everyday.
Excellent video Jessica. Love your little ones as you know. I have some fats I going to render on the crock pot. We had family visit and lots of pork meat I need to preserve, so I will be canning those today (with God's help). That fruit blend looks great so does the lemon-aid. Thanks again, I always look forward to your videos. HUGS!
Blessings & Shalom Jessica 🕊 I’m intrigued by the freeze dried liver. Freeze drying food doesn’t cook it, right? So the liver powder is raw. I’m a recently ex vegan- is raw liver powder safe to eat (given that it’s from a clean source)? We do have a freeze dryer, but I’ve been hesitant to freeze dry meat, not knowing how it will turn out. However, we are having a hard time getting liver down and liver powder may be a solution! Thank you. Lord bless you!

Thank you Jessica. Love watching this day. You have so much knowledge about everything. I did the August challenge. Loved having something to put in the freezer or canning jars. We still have okra. Also potatoes to dig. We are blessed to be able to enjoy your ways to preserve our foods.
When you strain the vinegar you don’t keep the mother?? What do you do with that? Do the kids get attatched the the animals you have butchered? Aww you answered this..during the video!!
Jessica, I've just recently found you and your channel. I'm so inspired by all you accomplish. Thank you so much for all that you do. You're absolutely amazing!!
I am a new subscriber.. i just want to say that i have so much respect for the way you and your husband are raising your children! It is wonderful that you are teaching them self sufficiency! God bless you all!
That is so funny (we had a cow to pick up from the butcher this week)- I just had to pull out all the tomatoes and get working on them, several small bags of leftover fruit, peach juice that got turned into jello, and a ham 🤣
I have a question. I know organ meat is very good for you. I like the idea of powdered. The taste and smell of liver makes me sock to my stomach. Can you taste and smell it when you add the powder to things?
I'm gonna have to try my hand at the peach pit vinegar (peaches are my fave fruit). Thanks for the easy to follow ideas because I am a novice at food preservation!❣️
You mentioned making the liver powder and then adding it to things like smoothies and such. But the powder is not cooked is it safe to eat raw liver?? As a smoothie is not cookies?? Just trying to learn. Love that you don’t force the meat eating we have one girl that goes through stages like that.
Thank you for sharing all of these details so honestly with us, Jessica! I have really enjoyed preserving food this fall and have looked forward to your weekly videos. You inspire me. God bless you and your family.
We just did this. It took about 8 hours. Definitely learned a lot of lessons. Thankfully our butcher is super flexible otherwise we would have been in a heap of trouble.
Very intrigued by the liver powder, I can’t get past the texture of liver, maybe it’s just the way I’m trying to cook it. Liver powder sounds like a wonderful way to still get those benefits!
Was the liver raw when you put it in the freeze dryer? If so I think it would be contraindicated to add to smoothies, basically your adding raw liver to your smoothie. The freeze dryer does not "cook" like the dehydrator does.
You shouldn't feed dogs pork or chicken bones they splinter and can puncture the digestive tract. I didn't know that and fed my dogs those types of bones. One dog developed abcess in intestines had surgery the other had a blockage due to bone splinters in lower part of stomach making her stomach twist we had to have her put to sleep.
Hello from NORTH CAROLINA! I have been watching your videos the past several weeks. I am located in NC, and you have really encouraged me to start canning. The only thing is I am afraid that I will not do something right!
Hi this is Christine. Since we live in Arizona I juice my oranges and base my ham with orange juice. Family favorite for even the fussy meat eating grandchildren. I just love your RU-vid videos. God Bless you and your family
Very interesting and diverse video today. You covered so much, garden tour, a very patient cow loading. Freezer clean out and live stock dogs. My mum would make lambs fry and bacon. This is made with lambs liver, skinned, fried in butter with bacon. A gravy made from pan juices. Served with mashed potatoes and green beans.
Funny … I moved into my truck to pay off some debt and save a little and this is exactly how I’m doing it. No dining out and everything counts. Self made meals everyday for as long as I’m living obr of the truck
