I can relate. I'm 79, a widow for 22 years, a lifelong Democrat and progressive liberal from a progressive liberal family... Until Trump. Now my only sister, all her adult children and spouses, and my youngest son and his wife and grandson and spouse have all become both radical MAGA Trumpers and rabid evangelicals. So I not only can't even mention anything about politics or religion, but also have to avoid all the various issues that trigger them, including climate change and ecology in general. My loved ones have gone so far down the rabbit hole, I don't think they can ever find their way out. I never, ever thought I'd lose my whole family to an insane liar like Trump. I never, ever thought they'd totally lose all ability to think with logic and reason, and refuse to see obvious facts.

I'm so sorry. I hope you have friends that are like family.

I am with you. I was born and raised in South St Louis. When I was 20 the x and I moved out to the middle of know where. We split up I got the house got remarried, became disabled, we lost the house in the crash maneged to find a place to rent in my daughters small school district for her senior year, she chose a out of state college. During her senior year the only kind of factory in the county closed and that caused a lot of the small places that were still there that made it through the crash didn't make it through this and it would have been a 2 to 2 and a half hour drive for hubby to find work. We didn't have our house and woods anymore and so we followed our daughter to of all places Kansas. But she picked a liberal school in a very liberal city and then it was very vibrant and lots of different cultures, and none of us missed the small town, small minded mentality. That had been getting worse and this was 09. I knew some of her teachers on a personal friend basis, they never went soft on her because of it and they were good open minded teachers but they were tough, if you took their classes you were going to learn especially if you took the college level classes in your senior year. Her top pick was KU and she got it, so they knew we were struggling, they started giving her stuff she would need as basics, towels, sheets, that kind of stuff when we came out the first time for orientation, and experienced the city for the first time. No she had not seen it in person yet she was going by her intuition and I felt the same. Once we got out here we fell in love with the city. It was a place we could live more free with having to live around people. I was very nervous moving here because Missouri was still purple and not Kansas but the city we are in is very blue. After trump got in we lost some of that multi culture vibe because of his Muslim ban and after ice screwed up and took down a professor hard that was a citizen well most all our Muslim population left, the university and the people of the city helped pay his legal fees and they had to let him go, but him being a more prominent person most everyone moved out, we lost part of our Hispanic community that were citizens as well but for any of these people unless they were traveling into KC going the other way out of the city and heading west well it was not a good idea especially at that time. We lost our students from other countries some because of trumps ban some because they didn't want to come to the states no matter where they were from just because of everything. All colleges across the country lost one third of their students because of everything then covid on top of everything. Last school year was the first year since all that the most of the colleges were at about max again. Before covid they thought they would be funny and build a bunch of retirement condos and apartments, but well covid kinda stopped that and they are finding out we are still a big lake of blue in a sea of red and like it or not that blue has been spreading. But watching Missouri turn dark red and I know it's gerrymandering just like here, but getting to vote and keep our rights to privacy, because that's what that vote was about they wanted to change our state constitution. Back in the 90s it was officially made part of the constitution of the state that everyone has the right to privacy, same thing Roe was won on, that a woman has the same rights to privacy as a man including in all medical matters hence abortion became legal. But only some states got it into their constitutions, somehow Kansas was one of them. We voted not to change the constitution and won, even people that personally were against abortion were smart enough to know changing that law would be a bad thing for everyone. Now I look at Missouri and as much as I have been home sick and I would have no problem living in the city again if need be, I won't move back. When I can say we have more rights and freedom's in Kansas then in Missouri well it's a really really sad thing. I really hope that the good guys win in both states. This was the first primary where there was a Democrat running against a republican in every slot except one. It's been a wonderful change and I know Fred Wellman back home with the forgotten Democrats and other things has been a big help to both our states and the training on campaigning in rural areas is helping both states as well. I have more hope about this election then I've had in years decades really. So here's asking all the powers that be that both states finally start getting good people at all levels.

It’s true currently there’s no one with his “charisma” (gross) to take his place….. thank goddess. So then within six months the cult begins to dismantle probably disgruntled and bitter but they’ll get over it or not…. Their choice.

I doubt he will run away. He hates travelling, foreigners, ethnic food, unfamiliar surroundings, unknown/unfamiliar people. My family have a saying and it is no good deed goes unpunished. I know that sounds so negative but so often we’ve done good deeds only to get into trouble in the most unexpected bizarre ways imaginable thus the saying. We all believe we have invisible sucker signs on our foreheads because we always stop to help or offer assistance. Over the past several years I’ve stopped my husband and also I’ve been more cautious who I help. It’s really hard for my husband but I remind him of our motto about the punishment that goes along with good deeds. Will we stop trying to help… no.. we’ll still carefully try but it’s pretty bad when you have to be careful who you help. I get this feeling though I’d even help an enemy if they were in a desperate way, and most probably I’ll get bit in the ass for it. But after I exit this life I’m hoping that playback will offset some stuff I’ve regretted. I have a feeling some day either here or the hereafter the good deed will get good karma attached, I really do.

We are trying to move out of South Carolina, covid creeps up pretty often still because of so many people who don’t believe in the jab as they call it here. We live in a high end tourist gated community town. It’s safe as far as gun ownership is concerned as it’s mostly senior citizens in the gated communities but younger folks near the military bases but the energy is not comfortable. We’re staying in our rough cabin in the NC mountains until our house closes. We’ve decided to leave the US to a condo we have in Ajijic Mexico which is beautiful and also full of American expats, it’s just like a beautiful but safe home with absolutely no worries about politics… none. South Carolina is a very red state, the governor is terrible and Lindsey Graham is a horrible senator. Be aware education is terrible. Food prices are very high, higher than North Carolina mountains. Housing prices are high in “safer” areas. I would stay far away from rural areas and only live in more upscale neighborhoods if it’s affordable to you. We’re retired and we now can’t afford the lifestyle that our daughter can. It’s horrible because we can’t even have a night out for a beer and appetizers for under eighty dollars. I even had to budget our food to using Hello Fresh and filling in which worked out ok but NO nights out for a fun date, those days were gone if we stayed there. Church attendance is almost a must or pretend like you’re a Christian evangelical just for safety sake, we’ve had two years of practice so it wasn’t hard to fake it. If you have democrat family members moving there then at least you’ll have each other and can look out for each other. BUT look out after the elections because god knows what the yahoos will do, you’ll have to get a feel for your neighborhood and area and what areas are safe. Even in a higher end community there were certain ethnic areas where even the police would not enter without backup. Good luck, we never ever want to go back there again and good riddins to hurricane evacuations too!!!!!!!

When they cut education budgets, ignore upgrading infrastructure, give corporations and wealthy tax breaks and reduce women’s right to reproductive healthcare, it’s not surprising. Maybe there were small cracks in American democracy but the absolute destruction Trump has wrought on your country is wild, right from bad policies to families breaking apart due to political differences and people resettling geographically to get away from the political animosity.
